State of the TAM - December 2nd
So, I’m going to just belly up to the elephant in the room… I’ve been slacking with the newsletter this year. I’ll try and improve for 2026, but honestly this has been a hard to navigate year. I’ve been OK, in rude good health most of the year, but a lot people in my life have been unwell or in various forms of flux in their lives.
Even the pups have been back and forth to the vet.
So I’ve just been trying to keep an even keel and forge forward with everything…to mixed success. My very important contributions of being vaguely useless, cracking in poor taste jokes, and making cups of tea would have been missed, I’m sure.
Still, it’s December already! So I have to try and buck up. Next year will be better!
So…what’s coming up?
LOTS AND LOTS!
Dylan Hollie saved Christmas, not that he can tell anyone about it.
Now all he has to worry about is finding out who killed the previous Santa and set everything in motion.
It should be easy enough. He's got plenty of suspects. Between Santa's ambitious relatives, who all think they could do a better job of filling out the red suit, and the impenetrable mire of Winter Court politics there were more people who wanted the jolly man dead than alive.
Right now the prime suspects are the Yule Lads. Santa's magically contracted bodyguards; the Lads have been at this too many centuries to fail so comprehensively all at once.
Dropped into the middle of this, in a world he'd never believed in, Dylan has to try and work out who to trust, and that maybe the answer is no-one.
He'd also like to know if Santas ever retire. The benefits are good, and the health insurance is insane, but he definitely doesn't want to be Santa this year!

Ever since ghostwriter Jason Burke ended up in loco parentis for his orphaned niece, Mallory, he’s been trying. He goes to parent/teacher events, and he makes packed lunches, so he definitely didn’t mean to forget about Christmas. He just hasn’t celebrated it since he left home under a cloud years ago.
Put on the spot, Jason makes the snap decision to take Mallory to see where he and her father spent their Christmases as kids. The last thing he expects is to run into Tommy, his ex—ex-best friend, ex-boyfriend—who is still living in town in town… and working as a sheriff’s deputy.
It’s hard to avoid someone in a small town—and maybe Jason doesn’t want to. He got Mallory a Christmas, and maybe now it’s time to get himself a Christmas boyfriend.

State of the TAM - 19TH Sept
It’s been a bit quiet this month. Well, there’s been a lot going on but in a way that stops me doing anything else. So quiet in some ways! It’s going to roll on a couple more weeks, at least. So if I’m a bit quiet there’s just family stuff and what not.
(I am, for the record, healthy as a horse. Just in case anyone was getting set to worry!)
Oh, no video this month. I know, I know - you miss my wee, cheery face - but I’m already in my jammies and I didn’t get round to a video when all this *gestures vaguely at the face area* was looking presentable. I promise I’ll ramble at you twice as much next month!

I ACTUALLY had this conversation with a friend before the TikTok went viral. I think that it’s silly to declare shorts inappropriate for work when skirts and dresses are ok. What’s the difference?
Obviously some shorts wouldn’t pass muster - if you rock up in lyrca you know you’re getting a look - but that is the same as any other item of clothing. It should be judged on a case by case basis.
Of course, I have a: never had an office dress code and b: I probably wouldn’t fall far afoul of it if I did since my clothing choices tend to fall somewhere between boring and basic.
*That’s sort of a lie. People have questioned my footwear before, but I wore Doc Martens to the interview, don’t know you’re surprised I wear them to work. Plus, your fancy new heels have you standing in a literal puddle of blood so I’m not gonna change!

When I walk in on my roommate jerking off, I’m supposed to walk away and shut the door, not stand and watch.

Imagine moving into a house and finding a dozen guinea pigs just already in residence! I am not sure if I would be delighted or horrified.
When I was living in Newcastle there was an outlet mall near my house. I used to walk over there to look in the reptile shop at the tiny snakes (and the really spherical budgies!) and get a coffee. Then one day, after MONTHS, I had a friend over for a visit and we suddenly realized there were rabbits and guinea pigs in some sort of outdoor habitat.
(Her husband was like ‘Yeah…did you not know?’ because the dog had realized they were there waaaaaaay quicker.)

I actually have a mild tongue tie! My mum wouldn’t let them correct it when I was a baby, because SHE was also born with a tongue tie. When they corrected it in the hospital they actually cut the end of her tongue off. So she was like… ‘keep the scissors OUT of the baby’s mouth!’. And my grandad had smuggled her GSD in, so people listened!
(Joking, Lady was under the bed and very well-behaved. She just had to come in because she’d only eat if my mum told her it was OK.)

NEW YORK — Tongue-tie—a condition in infants that can affect breastfeeding—may be overdiagnosed in the U.S. and too often treated with unnecessary surgery, a prominent doctors' group said Monday.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is the latest, and largest, medical society to sound an alarm about the increasing use of scissors or lasers to cut away some infants' tongue tissue when breastfeeding is difficult.
“It's almost an epidemic,” said Dr. Maya Bunik, a Colorado-based co-author of the report.

And when things go wrong, despite not being in the first draft to be called up, Jonah gets roped in to find answers. Now he’s knee-deep in secrets, curses, and the sort of temptation in lean, blond Shiloh that is definitely not going to help Jonah stay on the straight and mundane.
On top of all that? He’s getting sick. Without a hex to help put a thumb on the scales, Jonah really can’t catch a break.

Now obviously I’ve a professional interest in the committing of crimes. However, while I’ve known a few criminals over the years none of them were CLASSY CRIMINALS. My old boss, on the other hand, knew (for a value of ‘knew’ that included him also knowing he’d been cursed by Templars) some actual proper jewel thieves. They weren’t wild classy though.
So, the story as he told it went like this. These four guys would travel to a foreign country, in this case it was Switzerland, and find a high class jewellers. One of them would go inside and ask to look for some rings and then they’d just grab the tray and run like fuck. The rest of the thieves, who were else dressed the same, would then scatter to confuse pursuit.
Then they’d just split the take between them, get on the plane home, and flog them there. Sometimes they’d take their girlfriends and then they’d wear the rings/necklaces/earrings home on the plane.

State of the TAM - 10th July
So, thanks to feedback from my readers, I’ll be moving the newsletter to a monthly schedule in August to see how it goes! (With occasional flash newsletters for special events!). I’ve a lot happening in July, though, so I’ll be here every week for now!
