State of the Tam - 3rd July
Look! I did a video *points up*
ANYHOO…sorry about dropping the ball on the newsletter this last month. It was just a WHOLE year by the time I got to May and things had gotten on top of me. I had to take a break and get my ducks all back in a row.
So they are lined up and I am getting back on schedule.
Which leads me to!
Hex Sells, book two in the Babylon Boy series, is out on July 26th and available for pre-order now!
Jonah Carrow just wants a quiet, hex-free life. It’s harder than he’d thought.
Despite his best efforts, though, magic trouble just keeps finding him. If it’s not his dead relatives trying to turn breakfast into a ouija board, it’s a crow with bad tidings at his door.
Jonah doesn’t know what’s worse, that warlock biker Shiloh has decided to call in his marker…or that he only did it to get him to pass on a message. It turns out that Luke, Jonah’s not-exactly boyfriend, hasn’t been taking the Crossroad Crows calls. …
And when things go wrong, despite not being in the first draft to be called up, Jonah gets roped in to find answers. Now he’s knee-deep in secrets, curses, and the sort of temptation in lean, blond Shiloh that is definitely not going to help Jonah stay on the straight and mundane.
On top of all that? He’s getting sick. Without a hex to help put a thumb on the scales, Jonah really can’t catch a break.
As mentioned in the video, I do have a sale on some of my old paperbacks (I need to order in stock for the cons next year of all my snazzy new covers!) You’ll get a signed paperback, some swag (mostly bookmarks, cards, and a few stickers, I need to reload on my swag), and an extraordinarily well-taped package that smells lightly of dog (probably some dog hair too).

@thevirginiamermaidPart 3: the grand finale.. making 🦭💀 the seal head 💀🦭 This was by far the most challenging part of this project and all of my loved ones who were cheering me on were…cautiously optimistic about this part of the project. I’ve never worked with horsehair trim (sewn into the edge of my hood for structure), never made a hood, never applied fur to a head form, never glued whiskers, never made taxidermy eyes etc. so I watched a lot of taxidermy and mask making videos online and am likely on a couple of government watch lists as seals are highly protected. State of the TAM - 16th May
Sorry we’re a bit late. I had a migraine yesterday, so if I’d tried to push through all you would have gotten is badly typed out swear words and complaints about the sun.
…which has actually been out the last couple of days! I’m definitely not complaining, migraine aside, but it has been a shock. Dogs are loving it!
Anyhow, at least you know you get these hot off the presses. No writing them up before hand and having a backlog like a SENSIBLE person.
As for the NEWS!?
I’m going to ShiMMer next year! Saturday 28th June in Warwick! I’m wicked excited about it. It will also be the first big outing for the new covers of my books. So I’m really looking forward to seeing what people think of them!
Obviously, it isn’t going to ONLY be me. I’m gregarious, but I’m not THAT gregarious. Trying to bring the craic for that many people on my own could lead to dehydration! So there’s going to be a bunch of really cool authors there, like Miski Harris (just the sweetest lady! I know her a little from GRL and she’s a doll!), Nora Phoenix (also a lovely person), TJ Masters (who gives amazing demonstrations and is just a lovely man to chat with), Kim Fielding (…look, she’s just a sweetheart. I can’t help it that people are lovely!), the lovely KC Wells (who you can’t find a nicer person to share hotel room Tikka with!) and just loads more!
All of whom are also great authors! Just they’re lovely to talk to as well!

[image error] Must Read of the WeekI find family estrangement interesting. Or rather, I find the way that people talk about it interesting…like it’s a character flaw of Gen Z who drop family members like Pip socially climbing in Great Expectations. Like people haven’t been doing it for years by moving away to England or only visiting their in-laws on the high holy days. The slow fade of family relationships that don’t serve their purpose has always been there.
The only difference is that social media makes it so easy to stay in touch, so it’s more evident when effort is made to avoid that. Or that’s part of it, anyhow.

On an unexpectedly brisk November evening in Johannesburg, I was at a sushi dinner with my dad, his wife, Mary*, and her teenage daughter, Rebecca*. Strained, sporadic laughter between deafening silences made it clear that everyone was uncomfortable.
It was my third time peering into what still feels like my dad’s new life. When he and I reconnected after years of estrangement in 2019, we focused strictly on our relationship, so Mary and Rebecca are effectively strangers to me. Not only that, but Mary, Rebecca, and my dad are all pretty quiet, where I tend to be more boisterous. So my plan for dinner was simple: Keep it light. Give them the watered-down version of myself that they find more… palatable.

…I can tell you that mine aren’t! I’m sure some do, but it’s not from my socio-economic bracket, sadly. *lol* I don’t know, the blithe confidence in this sort of headline just always tickles me. Everyone assumes their experience is universal and relatable, I guess!
Even before he really knew what it meant, Allen Wong wanted to be rich. As a kid, he didn’t yet equate the word with “luxury” or “status” or “expensive things.” He didn’t think wealth would bring him 85-inch televisions and Jacuzzis, a one-of-a-kind rose-gold Lamborghini in the garage, a wearable Iron Man suit that shoots lasers — though he does, actually, have all of that now. What “rich” seemed to dangle was something simpler, more elementary, more a feeling than anything else: freedom from pain.

State of the TAM - 2nd May
The next book in the Babylon Boy series is finished! I just ‘The End’ today and sent it off to my editor. I’ll be doing a cover reveal shortly, once I get the pre-orders up!
I am also totally wrecked now! It’s been a LOT this week. I had a scare with the gas at the weekend, so I spent a fitful night with all the windows open and the gas turned off at the mains. Then I got a last minute MOT booking (before that I was going to have to wait until OCTOBER), where it turned out my car needed some work done to it.
Said car is currently at my mechanics, who called me this afternoon to tell me that the parts he needs are ‘hard to get’ and he’s going to have to keep the car longer.
So I am TIRED, man, and you’re getting a truncated newsletter :D
Next week though I’ll have Wolf Winter back up with their sexy new covers! I can’t wait to show you guys the paperback wraps. I’m REALLY pleased with them.

Received what is possibly the funniest insult EVER this week- and I’ve been insulted by the best! Someone called me an idiot on the socials and then added ‘but what would you expect from a purple hair?’. I think it tickles me because, you know, shades of dystopian YA fantasy castes or what?
Oh, and I color bombed my hair purple again. I have probably wrecked the whole ‘grow it out to a natural shade’ plan, but I got bored!

What book introduced you to the MM romance genre?The Magpie Lord by K.J. Charles. Game-changer. Funny, romantic and not a word wasted. (She is not wrong! I read this for the first time on the ferry from Scotland to NI and it thoroughly distracted me from being seasick!)
What book/author do you think should be on more people's TBR pile?Other than T.A. Moore? R. Cooper, the Mistress of Unrequited Pining: "Play it again, Charlie" is a DIK for me. Ada Maria Soto ("His Quiet Agent") and Amy Rae Durreson (Yes! I absolutely loved Reawakening!) also deserve to be much better known. HR (m/f) - Megan Bryce's "To Tempt the Saint" is the book I'd love to have written, or anything by Sarah Woodhouse (criminally neglected). CR (m/f) - generally problematic territory, but Jennifer Crusie almost always gets it right: "Faking It" is a masterclass in getting m/f relations right.
Is there a Facebook Group or Tiktok that would you recommend to newcomers to the genre?K.J. Charles Chat is a decent starting point for m/m readers.

So I haven’t changed the covers on Prodigal and Collared, but I have redone the paperback wraps for them. What do y’think? They’re not bad, eh?
I only have Wolf Winter to finish now and I’ll be done and dusted! Actually, then I have to put them wide and get them up on other places, but life is a grind :D Lemme have this!

I am always interested in how an author can do a really SAD book and pull it off. My personal instincts are aggressively against dealing with or thinking about emotions, so it’s not one of my strengths! I’ll have to check it out. TAM)

Shout Out of the WeekI’m a sucker for things that go vroom. I, personally, drive like I’m delivering eggs that I’ve balanced on the roof. But I love the really tightly knit world and culture that exists around vrooming…and annoying people by saying vrooming :D
Formula Q is the fastest motorsport in the world. Only the highest-performing athletes can make it to the grid. They drive fast, work hard, and play hard, but off-camera, anything goes.
The public knows me as Damon ‘the Speed Demon’ Davidoff, eligible bachelor and winner of FQ titles around the world. Fans adore me and my team supports me. They don’t need to know I’m so deep in the closet I intend to bury myself there.
Then my poor health catches up to me and my world comes crashing down. I could bounce back easily if it weren’t for one little complication: my male nurse is attractive as hell.
I can suppress these feelings during the season break—I have to. I’m not going to expose my secret just because I feel a fire coursing through my veins when Rocky puts his hands on me.
As the weeks go by, I somehow let Rocky under my skin and into my heart. He’s smart, sweet, and everything I never knew I needed.

Does this cover LOOK simple? Yes. Was it simple? NO! It takes a lot of work to look that casually cool as it turns out! Mostly it was the font. It’s almost ALWAYS the font.
But look! Behold the paperback wrap! Is it not the prettiest thing? Still very simple, but it just looks so nice!! Well, says me!
Anyhow, going to be away for a bit next week. I’ll probably do a montage of pups for you guys :D but no sorting out uploads and all that!

I am a sucker for monster romance, Amanda Meuwissen’s The Tea House novella is horror, mysterious, and heartwarming.

In 2021, Jack Chadwick, a twenty-seven-year-old barman and part-time go-go dancer, was browsing the shelves of the Working Class Movement Library, outside Manchester, when he spied an arresting book cover. The hand-drawn illustration showed a skeleton kneeling in supplication, its arms outstretched. Chadwick knew of neither the book, “Caliban Shrieks,” nor its writer, Jack Hilton. But he became absorbed in the text. At closing time, after several hours of concentrated reading, he closed the book and asked the librarian what she could tell him about the author. Very little, she said—only that, after a brief literary career, Hilton had disappeared.

Butter (unsalted)(softened) 1/8 tsp. Salt 1 tsp. Vanilla 1/2 C. Corn Syrup 3 C. Powdered Sugar 2 C. Chocolate Chips (Dark) Yellow Food Coloring Cream together butter, salt, vanilla, and syrup til smooth. Next add in powdered sugar mixing in one cup at a time and mixing before adding more. Filling mixture will be thick and smooth flowing. Remove 1/3 of filling and add to a small bowl and add yellow food coloring and mix! Freeze both white and yellow mixtures for 1 hour. After 1 hour the mixture should be firm enough to make balls. Take a small portion of the yellow and form a ball, then take a portion a little larger than the yellow, flaten and place yellow ball in the center wrapping the white filling around the yellow and roll/form into a egg shape and place on a baking sheet lined w/parchment. Make the eggs as big or little as you desire. Frezze the formed eggs for another hour or two. Before pulling fillings out of the freezer melt chocolate either in the microwave or over a double boiler. Dip your eggs, drip your eggs, and put it on your pan and let the chocolate set before enjoying. Store in airtight container in the fridge. Yesterday Jax, the most beautiful of boys, officially hit his target weight at the vets! He is 21.4 kg and in wonderful condition. Izzy didn’t need to lose any weight, but she is very beautiful anyhow!

State of the TAM: Mar 13
*ahem* yes, I did mistype the title. It was a long day *facepalm* Fixed now! :D
What’s UpSo it is, once again, that time of the week! Behold the new cover for Cash in Hand by TA Moore!
Well? Is that the biz or what? No! No! It’s alright. I know it is :D
In other news…
I am halfway through the next Babylon Boy novella. It’s going well and, despite my worry, I am enjoying being in Jonah’s not-very-healthy little brain again. Once it’s finished I will hit my schedule and editor with a very padded stick (it’s a game! she likes it really!) and see what falls out to do next.
I also have just finished an Island Confidential novella that I think will be a lot of fun! I had fun writing it and I made my editor snort tea out of her nose at one part.
It’s part of an anthology, though, so news will have to wait on when that is coming out. I will keep you informed though!
The rest of the new covers will be coming soon! But are there any you’d really like to see?
Collared and Prodigal have stayed the same, but the rest of the books are all shiny and new. If you have any specifics you’d like to see next, let me know!
Pupdate of the WeekSo, you might THINK it’s a good idea to book both dogs in to get vaccinated at the same time? In the same appointment? It is not. Yes, it saves a trip. No, it is not convenient.
Jax? He is so happy. It is a good Jax day when he gets to see all his vet friends. He’s bouncing off the walls and woo-woo-wooing and giving just everyone kisses. OH and he is ALSO 21.6 kg. That is .1 kg off his target weight, but I am still calling it a win!
Jax isn’t so sure, but his dino is always a comfort!

Must Read of the WeekThe mommy/family influencer schtick is something that people in the near-future will regard as barely a step above Victorian chimney sweeps. It is genuinely horrifying when you look at them closer. Like, the kids in these influencer families don’t even the minimal protections of child stars. They work their whole childhood and come out of it with nothing but a complete lack of privacy and stalkers.
It’s shocking that we don’t look at it like that NOW.
