Story Time: Author Horror Stories
Turn on the lights and grab your woobie, because this quartet author horror stories will send a chill down your spine:
Story #1: What happens when you write a book based on a great idea … but not a good idea for you and your business? You get a bestselling, award-winning book that makes readers think your business is about something it isn’t.
Story #2: What happens when you don’t do the research to make sure your book covers what is expected and then adds in what’s desired but not currently available? You get bad reviews, low sales, and no new leads. Not to mention all the wasted time and effort to get there.
Story #3: What happens when you wing writing and publishing your book when you haven’t a clue what you’re doing? You get a book with possibly decent sales, but also lukewarm to bad reviews, and steadily dropping sales.
Story #4: What happens when you get the messaging about your book wrong? You get bad reviews, low sales, and the wrong leads.
All these author horror stories could have been averted with a little guidance from a mentor who had been there and done that. Comment if you can relate.

How do you stand out?
The entrepreneur space is getting crowded. The pandemic has a lot more people leaving the corporate world to become small business owners.
How do you stand out?
With a book based on your expertise. Without it, you could be leaving a lot of money on the table.
In fact, one survey of entrepreneurs found that a little more than a third of them doubled their income by publishing a book.
Comment if want to stand out with a book before 2022 bids us adieu.

Waiting for the muse?
Are you waiting for your muse to inspire you to write a book? Let me share with you something Picasso once said:
“Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”
I hate to burst your bubble (sort of), but even if a muse existed, inspiration is not passive. It doesn’t serve itself up to you on a silver platter. It comes to those who are actively seeking it.
So don’t just sit there reading this post, leave a comment stating what your next step will be, no matter how small.

Entrepreneurs: Are you leaving money on the table?
Did you know that publishing a book increases the chances of growing your business not only through increased clients but also through higher-value clients?
Entrepreneurs and small business owners who are also authors not only find it easier to attract clients, but they also attract higher-caliber clients.
Some even doubled their income because of their book.
If you aren’t an author, how much money are you leaving on the table?

Gaining Clarity
Brook is the founder of Sleepy Time Club, which makes bedtime simple for families. After our time together, I know she’s on the path to create compelling books that help people & will market her work. Here’s what she said of her session:
“Before the book diagnostic session, I was confused. I was doubtful. I had no idea where to go with all my range of ideas. And afterward, I just found the whole experience clarifying. I'm able to identify where my weaknesses are and where my strengths are. And I also have a clear roadmap on how to strengthen those weaker parts. I feel much more clarity, I feel hope, and I feel raring to go on the next steps.”
If you want results like Brook’s, book your session at authorneering.com/bookdiagnostic

Finish this sentence...
An idea for a book is only as good as …
I emailed this out to my list and here are a couple of the responses I've received:
... it's potential to change the world.
... you make it when you take action.
What's yours?

Challenging Squirrels
We all have things that sometimes get in the way of achieving our goals. My big struggle is ADHD – Squirrel! I’m so easily distracted and end up going down all sorts of rabbit holes, that I often don’t accomplish what I set out to in the time I intended.
How about you? What do you struggle with?

Reading is a form of prayer
At least that is what George Saunders says:
“Reading is a form of prayer, a guided meditation that briefly makes us believe we’re someone else, disrupting the delusion that we’re permanent and at the center of the universe. Suddenly (we’re saved!) other people are real again, and we’re fond of them.”
What do you think?
I’m not sure I agree on all accounts. Reading is a wonderful experience that takes us out of ourselves, whether fiction or nonfiction. But I believe prayer is a little bit more than he discusses.
