Can you write a book over the summer?

Imagine, for a moment, your best life. Would that ideal state include your name on the cover of a bestselling book? Do you fantasize about being stopped at the grocery store, the shopping center, or even while out on a walk, by someone who wants you to sign their copy of your book?

What’s stopping you from achieving that now?

If you’re an expert in something (or even really knowledgeable about something), you could have that bestseller in your hot little hands by the end of the summer.

Seriously, while other people are lounging at the beach sipping beverages with paper umbrellas sticking out of them, you could be chilling by the pool with your laptop writing an amazing book that will raise your authority and market your business – while sipping an exotically colored beverage with an umbrella sticking out of it. I mean, if you’re going to be a #workaholic, you might as well enjoy what you’re working on.

The first step is booking your Book Idea Diagnostic: https://authorneering.com/bookdiagnostic

How to Evaluate a Book Idea

Before you write your book, it is a good idea to verify that it is worth your time and effort. These are some of the most basic questions you need to ask about your book idea.

* Do you have the expertise?
* Do you have a purpose?
* Do you have an ideal reader in mind who is looking for this type of book?
* Are you sufficiently interested in the topic to keep up with it for the long haul?
* Is there a sufficient market for this book?

For more information about them, check out this blog post (authorneering.com/how-to-evaluate-you...) or for more expert analysis, book a no-cost Book Idea Diagnostic session with me (authorneering.com/bookdiagnostic)

Do you know your Origin Story?

All authors have an origin story: The journey that transformed them from “everyday person” to “published author.” That story includes a variety of Mastery Markers, Geek Factors, and can, if you tell it right, follow the Hero’s Journey with all its ups and downs.

This is the story you need to tell in every “About” page you have. This story, when well-told, will magnetize your ideal readers to you and help you sell more books. It is an integral part and key ingredient of your author brand, your email marketing, your social media marketing – your overall Author Platform.

Do you know your Origin Story? Do you communicate it strategically? Can you recognize it when other authors share theirs?

How long does it take to write a book?

The average time it takes for an author to write a book is six months. Of course, books can be written much faster (I've written one in a couple of days) or much slower (it took me 8 years to pull together Public Speaking Super Powers). Why the wide range? It all depends on the book, the style of writing, how many words, and the author's time put into butt-in-seat writing.

Regardless, writing a book is an effort. And there are always ways to decrease effort while maintaining quality.

#NationalTypewriterDay

I learned to type in high school on an old typewriter with keys that stuck. I honed my skill in college on a variety of computers. On what device did you learn to type? (Or did you?) #NationalTypewriterDay

Authors Have Principles

What are the principles you live by as an author?

Here are 3 principles that I live by:

1. Embrace Creativity -- Everyone is Creative
2. Always Be Kind -- You don't have to like or agree with someone to be kind
3. Be Grateful -- There is always a silver lining in every dark cloud
