Setting a goal....after you start a new novel!
Have you ever had unfinished projects and a set time to get them complete...then turn around and find yourself opening a new page and starting a new novel?
It is something that I find myself doing all the time! I was laying in bed last night, or in the wee hours of this morning, unable to sleep, because of this story that would not go away. So, I opened my laptop and wrote the first 2k to get it out of my head enough to rest. Nine out of ten times the title will slap me across the face, then the story just happens...not this time. I wrote the first chapter before the title hit me....Sacred Love....My main character was waiting. She has been building in my mind for a while and I brought her out and place her in this read. Rie Aki, was born in Hawaii, but raised on the main land. Her life was all that any young woman could have dreamed of...until one unfortunate evening as she drove her motorcycle to the store, just a few blocks from her home.
Rie wakes seven years later from a coma, missing part of the body she once had. She will find herself having to learn life as if she was being reborn, and in a sense...she is. Love will have to prove itself to her, because it will be the last thing that she thinks she will be able to deal with....that is, until he shows up. Matt Lamar is a worker on the ranch that Rie goes to, to learn how to start over with two prosthetics that she doesn't want the outside world to know about. At least not until she is comfortable with the new life she has been given.
I truly love this little romance and can't wait to see where it leads me. This will be one of those 'few' months where I do my best to write not one, not two, but three different reads. One novella, one short novel, and who knows how long Sacred Love will be?
So...here is my goal for the next two months. I plan on finishing:
Silver Linings....The sequel to Uncertain Meanings...Decadent Publishing
Damnation: The Beginning....The novella to my short story Damnation....where it goes?????
Sacred Love.....I plan on sending it in to ....Decadent Publishing....with high hopes, and even higher hopes if they take it, that I get the same editor. She really understands how I write and can shape a book like no ones business!!!!!! Rie, this book is for you! I sure hope DP likes it. ;)
I am giving myself 60 days to complete this goal and if all goes well, I will get it done! I have 15 pages in Silver Linings, 22 pages in Damnation The Beginning, and 8 pages in Sacred Love..LOL. We're only talking about 500 pages left to write, with I have no idea how many characters to build.... but what's a goal without a little challenge? I will have my grand-babies three days out of the week, so I will have to double time my writing when I don't. To be honest I will be happy if I finish one of these, but I will be in Hog Heaven if I can do all three..LOL.
Well, that's about it for now. I will make post to keep everyone up-to-date on how the goal is going. It will all start Monday, March the 28th and end May the 28th.....I sure hope I can do this!!!!
Big Hugs~

A good editor is great knowledge!
It can be mentally hard, but so rewarding!
Editing a book that you have pampered and loved is sometimes a very hard thing to do. You find yourself cutting things that made you smile. You cut things that brought back old memories that gave life to the scene in the first place. But had you not, you may have missed the fact that others might not see the humor, or understand a memory that only, say, I would be touched by. I have to say that I am personally grateful for eyes that can see what I need to do to make my work the best that it can be, because I am one of those ones who happens to be blind at times to the things that I write and see as a one-way view. All because I like it. Writer's have to think on the whole, not on the self...not on the one. We have to reach out and create a story that can relate to a world of readers and that means having someone that understands a spectrum of minds.
I can honestly say that deleting scenes has, at times, brought tears to my eyes. Yet, in the same breath, re-writing a piece to replace a delete can be fulfilling, and watching a story that you love take a new shape in the right direction, is overwhelming. To me the greatest gift from having a wonderful teacher is gaining knowledge that will last me a lifetime. And, of course, having that teacher say that like what you've done. That is just down-right touchin'. Love your editor's, they know best and want the best for you. I look forward to beginning book two: a sequel to the book that I just finish the first edit on, and it would not be happening had my editor not had me remove a piece and save it. My mother was elated with the re-write/edit and who would know better..LOL.

Welcome Paige Tyler

Welcome Ms. Paige Tyler:
I'm so excited to announce I have a new book out with Ellora's Cave! It's a paranormal romance called GHOST HUNTER, and it's got a hunky hero, a kick-ass heroine and a serial killing ghost that's scary as hell! Not to mention a gorgeous cover!
I love when I come up with an idea for a book out of the blue, which is what happened with GHOST HUNTER. When I heard my local RWA chapter set up a lecture with a team of paranormal investigators, it got me thinking right away about writing a book about a ghost hunter. Because the chapter is far from where we live, though, we didn't actually go to the lecture. I was a little bummed about that, especially since they were giving out EMF detectors. On second thought, maybe it was better we didn't go. Ghosts freak me out, so having something that can detect them probably wouldn't be a good idea.
Enough about me, back to the story behind the story. While I knew the hero was a ghost hunter named Trace, I wasn't quite sure how the heroine fit into the story, or even who she was. So, my hubby and I played around with a few ideas at our local PF Chang's (we come up with a lot of story ideas there!) We both decided that having the heroine Cassidy need the hero's help because her house was haunted or something like that didn't seem original enough, so we made her a budding romance writer who tags along with the hero and his team to do some research. Like any good story, though, it had to have some conflict, which is why Trace and Cassidy completely rub each other the wrong way right from the beginning. Actually, he thinks he's a jerk. But don't worry, Cassidy discovers underneath that rough ghost hunter exterior, Trace is just the man she's been looking for. It doesn't hurt that he's hot!
Okay, so we had our hero and heroine. Now we needed a bad guy. That's where the ghost comes in. He's not your standard, everyday ghost, though. He's a serial killer who attacked Cassidy that comes back from the grrave to continue his string of grisly murders, and she's at the top of his list. To make things even more interesting, not only can he do all the regualar ghostly stuff like walk through walls and materialize out of thin air, he can also take solid form.
I'm not going to tell you any more than that, though. Don't want to give too much away, you know. I will add that my editor at Ellora's Cave told me she got so caught up in the story, she completely forgot she was reading a submission!
Now that you know the story behind the story, I think I'll tease you with an excerpt. Enjoy!
BLURB:
Almost getting murdered by a serial killer gives Cassidy Kincaide a new lease on life and convinces her to go ahead and tackle that ghost-hunter novel she's always wanted to write. So, she hooks up with a gorgeous paranormal investigator named Trace McCord to do some research.
Cassidy and Trace rub each other the wrong way right from the beginning, but they have to put aside their differences when the serial killer who attacked her comes back from the grave to continue his string of grisly murders, with her at the top of his list.
Trace has to keep Cassidy close to keep her safe, and as they try to stay one step ahead of the ghost while figuring out how to stop it, he and Cassidy end up in each other's arms. While Trace has a whole list of reasons why he shouldn't get involved with her, he finds himself falling in love with the beautiful blonde anyway. And even though Cassidy started out thinking he was a jerk, she learns that underneath the rough ghost hunter exterior, he's just the man she's always been looking for. Now, all they have to do, is live long enough to be together.
EXCERPT:
Trace was only a few miles from the address Robert had given him for Cassidy when his cell phone rang. At first he wasn't going to answer it, but some sixth sense made him change his mind. Now he was glad he had.
He was about to disconnect the call when he heard a muffled scream on the other end of the line. It was quickly followed by a loud clatter, then nothing.
"Cassidy!"
No answer.
Trace felt his chest tighten. Swearing under his breath, he shoved his cell phone in the pocket of his jeans and floored the pedal on the Hummer, running a red light to get through the intersection. The other drivers honked their horns as they squealed to a stop, but he ignored them. There was no way he was going to let Cassidy die.
Five minutes later, he slid into the parking lot outside her apartment, running over an ornamental fence and a flower bed to come to a screeching halt a few feet from the front door. Jumping out of the Hummer, he ran around to the back and grabbed his duffel bag full of gear. Throwing it over his shoulder, he raced up the steps and charged through the door into the building, scaring the hell out of two women carrying laundry baskets.
"Where the hell are the stairs?" he demanded, not wanting to waste time with the elevator.
The women timidly pointed around the corner.
Trace didn't thank them as he ran in that direction. He hit the steps hard, taking them hree at a time. Once on the fourth floor, he ran down the hall, checking the room numbers on he doors. When he came to the right one, he didn't even bother to slow down. Instead, he icked the door in as hard as he could, reaching into his bag for his shotgun as the frame plintered and the door flew open.
He looked left and right as he entered the apartment, but there was no sign of Cassidy or el Vecchio. Trace's blood ran cold at the scene that met his eyes. The living room looked s if a cyclone hit it. The couch and throw pillows were sliced to shreds, stuffing still floating hrough the air. The coffee table was lying on its side, as were the two end tables, and the amps that had been on them were smashed to pieces along with practically everything ele in the place. Even the walls had been slashed.
"Cassidy?" Trace called.
"In here."
Trace followed the sound of her voice until he came to the kitchen. Cassidy was standing in the center of the room inside a wobbly drawn circle of salt, ready to throw a handful of something in his face. She sagged with relief at the sight of him, letting the stuff in her hand trickle out onto the floor. That was when he realized she was holding a big container of oregano.
"Is he gone?" she whispered.
Trace nodded. "Yeah, he's gone. But I'm getting you the hell out of here anyway."
He didn't wait for an answer, but simply slung the shotgun over his shoulder by the strap, then walked into the kitchen and swung Cassidy up in his arms.
She put one of her own around his neck. "Is it safe for me to leave the circle?"
"Yes. I'll keep you safe. Trust me."
Apparently she must have believed him because she didn't resist. She cuddled the container of oregano close to her body and leaned against his chest.
He frowned. "Cassidy, you did great with the salt circle. It saved your life without a doubt. But what are you doing with the oregano?"
She looked up at him with big, blue eyes. "Isn't it what you used to get rid of ghosts?"
His mouth twitched. "That's sage and garlic. You can ditch the spaghetti spice."
"Oh," was all she said. Resting her head on his shoulder, she let the container of oregano tumble to the floor, then put that arm around his neck, too.
Giving the place one more look to make sure Del Vecchio hadn't come back, Trace carried her out of the apartment and right passed the alarmed neighbors who had come out into the hallway to see what the ruckus was all about. Trace imagined they got their money's worth seeing a big guy with a shotgun and a duffel bag slung over his shoulder carrying a beautiful half-naked woman in his arms. He abruptly realized he probably should have taken a few minutes to let Cassidy grab some clothes. But then the lights in the hallway flickered and he decided he could get her clothes later. They were getting the hell out of there.
"Is she being kidnapped?" one elderly woman asked another in a low voice as he and Cassidy passed them.
"If she is," said the other old woman, "then I want to want to be kidnapped next."
Any other time, Trace would have laughed, but right now all he wanted to do was get Cassidy someplace safe. Fortunately, he knew exactly where to take her.

Just sharing my favorite part of 'Root's of Evil'
Just sharing a small piece of 'Root's of Evil' ...my gory short horror story that is being submitted to Frightfest....I am "giving" this read to horror lovers around the world...that is if they take it..LOL. If not, it will be added to the next volume of Short Stories of Twisted Tales....
Root's of Evil...Page 8 halfway through...
About that time Kelly shot up out of the water, screaming in agonizing terror, blood pouring from her mouth. Sadie dropped to her knees in disbelief, as the others stared at the horror before them. Kelly's body jerked then went back under, coming back up just a few feet from the small Island. Beaver yelled and pointed at the big tree that was now sliding to the edge of the Island. Kelly's limp form was drug up onto the earth and was being pulled right toward the gapping mouth that had opened on the bark of the large Oak.
Two large limbs stretched from the sides of the mammoth Oak, grabbing out with its spindly wooden fingers while the roots pulled her toward the sharp wooden teeth that snap viscously. The entire tree leaned forward and its monstrous hands grasped both of Kelly's ankle. She yelled out as she was yanked off the earth and plunged into the gaping mouth that waited. Half of her body was through when the wooden jaws came down and literally cut her sound to a halt. Her upper torso fell back to the base of the tree, then was slowly lifted into the cracking and snapping of wood and bone.
( Yep, I'm warped...Kelly is just the first to feed the Evil Oak with its haunting roots. ; p )

3. Pass the award along to other bloggers whom you think are fantastic.
4. Contact the bloggers you've picked to let them know about the award.
10 Survey Questions

Nah, I love people knowing that it is me that made the post..LOL
2. Describe an incident that shows your inner stubborn side.
When I was 13 the boys were climbing up a back-stop to a baseball game, in a field that was no longer in use. My stubborn self had to climb up and join them on a dare..I went head first from the very top, plunging 17 and a half feet right back down to a very hard earth..LOL. I broke 52 bones, most in both arms and hands and have never tried anything so stupid since!
3. What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror?
A face that I could put in a drawer and walk away..LOL Just kidding...I see a woman that I never thought would amount to anything more than being a wife and now grandmother...seeing a novelist look back is very shocking.
4. What is your favorite summer cold drink?
Thsi is so easy...Dr. Pepper
5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?
I take two weeks and go to Burkett Texas and I write a book.
6. Is there something that you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it?

7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person, or always ditching?
HAHAHA...Just remember this was years ago. I was the stoner, soon to be drop-out, and everyone knew it. I was the only one wearing hippie clothes with hair past my backside, smelling a bit odd (weed), and always getting into trouble..LOL. So glad my daughter was a college grad...it means it did not rub off!!! And yes, I dropped out the second week of the 10th grade and never went back. Good news: I grew up..LOL
8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment in your life, what would you see?
I would see that very amazingly beautiful little smile of my daughter that passed away when she was 4 1/2 months old to crib death. 9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?
It's my life..kind of what you see is what you get...so, I guess I like to do both. I love to share about others, their work, their lives...and I talk about my goofy family all the time. Grandchildren being the top subject!
10. If you had the choice to sit down and read a book or talk on the phone, which would you do and why?
I do not dig talking on a phone at anytime. I will however, chat with my very best friend on late nights for hours, talking about the books we have read..LOL. I love reading when ever I have any amount of free time. I would chose it ove the phone every time!
Congratulations to the fifteen "Life is Good" bloggers receiving this award from me!

SIDS She was such a wonderful baby and had the biggest blue eyes and a smile that would make you melt. Tanda Shantell Watson 11-19-82 - 4-8-83 She is so missed and always remembered!
Please pass this award onto ten bloggers you admire. You don't have to return the favor by giving me the award again. I'm thankful enough as it is for receiving it. Spread the love!
