Let the Vacation Commence!
And the latest work is now a DRAFT!
Tales from the Arena clocks in at just under 113,000 words. That’s HUGE for erotic romance. But I still think this is two books — a novella and a novel. So, a 36K word novella and a 77K word novel.
It went off to the first readers just about ten minutes ago, and will start going to the crit group later this month.\
And now? I’m going on vacation!

Did it again…
I just realized that it’s been over a month since I last posted anything here. Not good, Writer. Not good at all.
Granted, it’s been a busy month. We had a road trip (four days travel, one day with family…. ummm. I think we did that wrong). We had recovery from said road-trip, and the upper respiratory infection that kept a certain small boy of my acquaintance out of school for a solid week. We had drama with one thing or another.
The one thing we did not have nearly enough of was writing. Beca...

Mixed emotions.
Yesterday was a real up and down day. I found out that Philip the Foole, a well-known BDSM expert and a long-time net friend, had passed away unexpectedly on Sunday the 14th. I have known Philip (virtually, anyway) for so many years not that I’m not even sure I can put a number to it, and the last time I spoke to him, it was through Laura Antoniou’s Facebook page, where he told me (and everyone else) how much he liked “Oh, Promise Me!”
Hard to get my brains around the fact that he’s gone. I’d...

Reeling
I came home from picking my son up from school and turned my computer on. And found out about Boston.
Dear God…
I’m checking the news and Facebook behind J’s back, because I’m not up for explaining domestic terrorism (or international terrorism, or whatever-the-fuck kind of terrorism it is) to a six-year-old who can’t deal with the first ten minutes of Wall-E (I don’t like this, Mommy. Turn it off.). I want him to sleep tonight.
I’m not sure I will. I looked at one of the pictures of the scene....

How I Write a Book
My ideas come from everywhere. I’m a big fan of the “what if… what then?” line of thinking. But for some reason, the ideas of mine that have really had legs have been things that popped up in dreams. Which is funny, since I don’t usually remember my dreams. When I do, I usually have an image of something unusual, which makes me ask myself “Okay, who is this guy and why is he chained up in the middle of an abandoned ruin?” That question got me the rest of Princes of Air — if you’ve read it, yo...

My new darling.
I’m working on Tales from the Arena, and it is now humming along nicely. I’ve slightly more than a third of the way in, with a June 1st deadline.
And some of these scenes, oh, boy…
“I’m honored,” Gavir said. He took Iras’ hand in his and squeezed her fingers. “I just wish I were in better shape right now. I’m not in any condition to see to you the way you’re needing, Iras.”
Iras arched an eyebrow, feeling a surge of indignant anger. “Really? And what do I need, Kian-ti-os?”
He didn’t rise. He jus...

THE NEXT BIG THING BLOG HOP
Welcome to the blog hop!
What is a blog hop? Basically, it’s a way that readers can discover new authors, because with bookstores closing and publishers not promoting new authors as much, we need to find a way to introduce readers to authors they may not see in their local bookstore.
Here you have the chance to find many new authors. You’ll find information about me and my upcoming work. But that’s not all! Also see links below to other authors you might like to check out.
I’d like to thank fell...

What’s upcoming on the Schechter writing radar?
Well, my next novel, the steampunk erotic romance House of Sable Locks, will be coming from Circlet sometime soon. How soon? Not sure. I sent the page proofs back in a couple of weeks ago, which means we’re in the home stretch. But we’ve been having trouble finding a cover. I mean, just WHAT do you put on the cover for a book where the hero is a half-trained Mad Scientist, and the heroine is a machine?
Yeah, that was a FUN book to write. Skirted s...

What do you think of?
I was at lunch with a good friend a few months ago, sitting outside at Panera. We watched a raven land nearby, and she turned to me and asked, “What do you think of when you see a raven?”
Like I said, she’s a good friend. She’s read Princes of Air, and The Ice Raven, and I’ve bounced ideas for The White Raven off of her, looking for feedback. So I’m pretty sure that’s where the question came from. And I didn’t have an answer for her. I’m still not sure I do, but every so often, that question c...
