Writer, on writing

As the mother of a seven-year-old debate captain, complaint department and future lawyer, it occasionally becomes tempting to use the time-honored, albeit arbitrary, way to win an argument:

“Because I’m the Mom and I said so!”

Likewise, as a writer, your fictional characters fight back (and I challenge any writer out there to tell me that their characters don’t talk back to them in a way that would put a teenage Loki to shame). When this happens, it’s very tempting to point at your outline and...

Writer, on writing

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Here’s a new one.

The difference between romance, erotic romance, erotica and porn, in layman’s terms.

Romance: Your conventional soap opera on network television, or something you’d see on Lifetime or Hallmark.
Erotic romance: Something you’d see on HBO or Showtime
Erotica: Something you’d see on Cinemax (anyone else remember when we used to call Cinemax Skinemax?)
Porn: Something that would only show up on the special channels with the blue filter...

Save Amaya Papaya!

I wrote House of Sable Locks atAmaya Papaya – Play Lounge, a fantastic place here in Central Florida. If you actually read the dedication page of the book, you knew that already. Well, Yolonda (the owner) has had a bad run of luck over the past year, bad enough that 2014 might be the year that Amaya Papaya closes the doors for good.

She doesn’t want that to happen. So she’s started a GoFundMe campaign to save her place.

If you loved the book, please help save the place that helped a working mom...

Infernal Machine was written by my close personal friend Elias A. St. James. (wink)

New cover art and upcoming short

I have a new short story coming out from Forbidden Fiction. I had fun with this one.

HerCaptive

When First Mate Daniel Walker is captured by pirates, things don’t go as expected. He expected interrogation, torture, and possibly being made to walk the plank. He didn’t expect to be tied up, alone in the captain’s chambers, awaiting her pleasure.

I’m not sure when it will be available for purchase, but soon.

Enter ALL the contests!

Nominations opened today for the Hugo awards.

You know, it seems that I have this little steampunk novel that just might be eligible. If, you know, someone wanted to nominate it.

First review of Tales from the Arena: Opening Gambit.

My dear friend Richard Raiment, all out of blue, contacted me the other day with this lovely review. It just went live on his Tumblr and his Blog.

He also let me know about the rather egregious typo that he caught when no one else did. Fixed that. So if you bought a copy already, you should check and see if the update is available to download on your platform. If it is not yet, hit the contact me page, and I’ll make sure you get the update.
