State of the Writer
And brother, am I in a state!
Boy, 2012 has been one LONG omnishamble (that’s the word of the year, if you didn’t know. I heard it on NPR yesterday. Loosely translated, it means something that’s gone wrong from beginning to end. In other work, a clusterf*ck).
Now, in order to explain where I’ve been, and why I’ve been largely ignoring this blog for over a month, we need to backtrack to the summer. When things went down in an interesting fashion at my husband’s work. He’s still employed, thank B...

Bad Writer! No Writer Biscuit!
I think they’re going to take my membership in the writer guild away for this one. I dunno. Because it occurs to me that I’ve been remiss in my writer duties. As in… I kinda forgot to mention my newest release.
Fantastic Erotica came out last Thursday (the 4th), so I’m not too behind, but still… I should have been crowing like Chanticleer from the rooftops. This anthology was the one that people voted on the contents, and they voted to include my short story The Succubus as being one of the to...

A journey of a thousand li…
Surprisingly, I’m not talking about my publishing journey here. I’m going to talk about my other journey. The one I started at roughly a year after I started my publishing journey.
In December of 2009, I looked like this:
Yep. That was me. 307.8 lbs. Size 28, and about to hit size 30.
May 22nd of 2010, I started Weight Watchers.
This is me, as of last February:
Now, I’m in a weird space in my own head. I KNOW I’ve lost ridiculous amounts of weight. As of last weekend’s weigh in, I was down 79.8 lb...

Sadness
I usually have some kind of music playing when I write, and one of my favorite people to listen to was Owain Phyfe, of The New World Renaissance Band. His voice was like cream and velvet, and I loved just about everything he did.
He passed away today.
My condolences to the Lady Paula, his widow. He will be missed.

Serpents! Serpents!
If you’ve ever read Alice in Wonderland, you might get that reference. If you haven’t, or haven’t in a while, allow me to explain.
To quote Jefferson Airplane (back before they were a Starship), one will make you larger, and one will make you small. Sides of the mushroom, that is. And one side of the mushroom made Alice’s neck stretch so long that her head poked up through the trees and disturbed a pigeon:
`Serpent!’ screamed the Pigeon.
`I’mNOTa serpent!’ said Alice indignantly. `Let me alone!’...

And the award goes to….
Someone else. Princes of Air took an honorable mention in the Passionate Plume tonight. Not too shabby for a first novel, I think!
Congratulations on the win to Sophie Oak and her novel Bound: A Faery Story!

My Thotful Spot
No, that isn’t a typo. Really. Go read Milne if you don’t believe me.
Today, someone in one of my writingcommunitiesasked for pictures of where we work. I have two spots in the house where I will sit and write. One is in the family room, the other is my office.
Here is the family room:
That’s my backyard out there, where squirrels Cassius and Poppin live. The red striped basket and the white thing with the lime green bag in it are both knitting, and the cardboard box is the cat’s house (courtesy...
We can haz Squirrels!
Two of them, to be precise. They come and raid our birdfeeder, which I don’t mind, since it keeps them out of my tomatoes and away from my pineapple.
J has decided that they are both named Poppin Cassius. Because he wants to name them both Poppin, and I think the thin one should be Cassius. The fat one is Poppin. He actually LIVES in our yard. Cassius comes over the wall to have lunch, and he stays only long enough for Poppin to chase him away.
This is Cassius. He has a notched ear.
Yon Cassius...

Drop back ten and punt.
Kidnapped by Pirated was passed over. The editor loved it, but the publisher didn’t think it was a good fit for the anthology.
Back to the drawing board. I’ve already sent it out to another call.
