Hello Monday, and Welcome!

Ever had one of those weekends where it just seems like everything goes wrong at once? It seems unfair, as weekends are supposed to be for rest, relaxation and fun. Here at our casa, though, it's been NUTS. First, we all got sick on Thursday, followed by the eye poke I told you about on Friday. Then my husband bought a car that turned out to be a total lemon, followed by him waking up the next morning with an ear and sinus infection. We were all sniffling, crazy messes, juggling all this car ...

Here to stay.

1. I asked. And 224 of you (and counting) answered. Thank you for letting me know that you do still like reading this blog and I should keep it up. I will. Even if some days, I feel like I have NOTHING to say and am writing the most boring entries ever. So you can't say you weren't warned! (I'd also like to say that I am very pleased to know I am not the only one still rocking the bootcut jeans. Whew! Because I still love my Seven A-pockets, and always will. )

2. You know how sometimes, everyt...

FOUND!

So yesterday, I just happened to be walking past the restaurant which was the last place I had my camera. I'd already called them twice, and each time they hadn't found it, but I thought, "Okay. One more time." I went in, asked the hostess and....she reached behind the register and THERE IT WAS! Oh, my God! I mean, how often does THAT happen?

Of course, I had gone out on Monday and bought a new one. Which I now have to return. But as someone pointed on on Twitter, when I excitedly reported th...

Whew.

I had a CRAZY busy weekend, but it was just so much fun. The NC Litfest was absolutely fabulous, and I had the best time catching up with old friends and making new ones. Like R. L. Stine:

who was, like, the nicest guy ever. Me and my friend Courtney ended up discussing the intricacies of NC hushpuppies with him (onions, according to Courtney, are crucial) and just having the best time. The next day, at the festival, several HUNDRED people turned out to see him. That, my friends, is a superst...

The Friday Five!

1. Okay, one final reminder: I'll be at the NC Litfest tomorrow, speaking on a panel with Jill McCorkle and Courtney Jones Mitchell. We'll be talking about mentoring and you never know what else, as Jill and Courtney are two of my favorite people and we ALL like to talk. You can check out the full schedule here .

2. Speaking of books and writers, I've been listening to Kathy Griffin's new memoir, Official Book Club Selection, on my iPod and it is FANTASTIC. Now, with Kathy Griffin, you either ...

Busy day today, as I'm headed off to do WUNC's The State of Things this morning. Not sure if it's running today at noon or we're taping---I'll let you know---but we'll be talking about Long Story Short and the upcoming NC Lit Fest. I was talking to one of my friends last night about how I am JUST getting comfortable in writing/Mom mode again, after spending the summer doing so much promotion for Along for the Ride. Now, though, I've got to pull out the dry cleaning and scrape the garden dirt ...

Laboring into Fall.....

Just a QUICK entry to say Happy Labor Day to everyone. We've had a busy but fun weekend here, hosting a family birthday party for my daughter on Saturday---cake, balloons, lots of cardboard and flashbulbs popping---followed by some delicious dinners with good friends. Last night, we went to our neighbor's house, where we had homemade stuffed grape leaves (he is the MOST amazing cook) and crab dip and homemade pizzas and bruschetta made with tomatoes and basil from our garden. YUM! I have neve...

The Friday Five!

1. Okay, so it's actually Thursday night as I write this, and my husband, the carpenter, JUST unpacked the box containing my daughter's play kitchen. According to Amazon reviews, it can take anywhere from two to five hours to assemble. How long will it take him? I have no idea. But I am documenting the entire process. Right now, he's been unwrapping pieces for fifteen minutes. Uh-oh. Stay tuned.....

2. In other news, this week was the season finale of Weeds, one of my very favorite shows. I a...

the big 2.0

It was two years ago today that my life changed forever...

And it just keeps getting better and better:

That's right. My daughter is two today. *sniffles!* I am not one to normally get mushy about birthdays, but I just can't believe it. Two years! She's, like, this big girl now. *sob* Okay, I'll stop.

*reaches for tissue, takes deep breath*

We're not making a huge deal about the birthday, just a small party with the family and a few close friends. I know I have years of birthday party pressure a

Today is the last day of August. I'm not even sure what to say about this other than it just seems wrong. September already? Really? Wow. I've been kind of mourning the summer ending---okay, I'll admit, there's no kind of about it---but this weekend, I started looking ahead to good things that are happening this fall. Like the anthology Long Story Short, which publishes tomorrow, and contains the first non-teen centric published piece I've written in a long time. Also, the NC Literary Festival,
