One thing that totally bums me out about fall and winter is the days being so short. When it starts getting dark at, like, 4:45, I just want to crawl back into bed and put my head under the covers. (That's sort of my default setting in fall and winter. I know, it's not healthy, but whatever.) 1. Today is Laurie Halse Anderson's birthday. Not ONLY is she the author of Speak, Wintergirls, and so many other great books, but she is also a really cool person. I can attest to this as I have been lucky enough several times to do events with her, most recently in Chicago this summer. Laurie also writes children's books, and her most recent, The Hair of Zoe Fleefenbacher Goes to School, is in the running to be in a Cheerios box giveaway next year. Between the Swine Flu and the Balloon Boy, I swear I just can't take the news lately. I'm so worried about Sasha getting sick, or one of us (or both) getting sick, and it seems like every time I turn on the TV or computer there are more scary statistics.
