The Five!

1. First off, thank you SO MUCH to all the Bethesda/DC readers for coming out to my event at the library with Politics and Prose bookshop yesterday. It was the last day of school, so I KNOW people had a lot going on, so it meant even more that I had such a huge turnout. Added bonus: I got a necklace from Melanie, a fantastic poster from Kelsey, and a sweet card from Kaila. You guys rock. Thank you so, so much.

2. Today, I head off to Houston, TX to do an event at the Refuge with Blue Willow B...

quickly…

And I do mean quickly, because in order to write this I have given my daughter the hose to play with on the deck and let me tell you, no good can come of it. Right now she is blasting the window beside me: next, she'll be after the dogs. Warp speed blogging time!

Quick reminder: I leave tomorrow for not one but TWO bookstore appearances. Tomorrow night, Thursday, I'll be at the Bethesda Library in MD with Politics and Prose Bookshop, 5pm. Details are here. Then, Friday at 7pm, I'm at the...

Catching up…

…or, um, trying to. Re-entry from vacation is always a bit bumpy, but factor in that I'm going away again on Thursday, and it's like chaos in overdrive. BUT: totally worth it. The beach was great, and now I get to go back on the road for the book, which is always fun, if hectic. I've posted an updated list of my upcoming appearances here, with more info to be added later about the fall stops as I get it. I have to say, while I am excited about ALL these events, I am super pumped for Flyleaf B...

The Five!

1. Or, I should say a quick, SMALL five, as I am still on vacation and it is total chaos (albeit the fun kind) all around me as I write this. Two preschoolers high on pancake sugar, various adults getting organized for pool and bike outings, an endless cycle of dishwashers and clean towels and sunscreen applications. In other words: the good stuff. Thank you to everyone for the sweet and abundant birthday wishes. I had a great day and this has been a really wonderful week. I'm already sad...

gone fishing…

…or really, just gone sitting. And gone eating Dairy Queen ice cream birthday cake. (To.die.for.) The blog and I will return once we are back home. For now, though, the view from here:

Yes, that is the NC Coast. I swear, this is NOT an ad for the tourism bureau. But I mean, look at that water!

Have a good day, everyone!

The Five!

1. Next week, I will be at the beach. *reads over that sentence again* Man, I feel calmer just seeing that in writing. Really. This trip has just sort of been out there, at the end of Phase One of the book tour hoopla, waiting for me, and by Monday I will get to join it. It will be a million degrees in the shade, but do I care? NOPE. Regular readers know how much I love the NC Coast, and when I went in late March it was lovely but cold and still felt like winter. I will wake up Monday...

June!

All right, so it's not technically June as I write this. But so close!! May was honestly, kind of a blur (the good kind, but still fuzzy around the edges). But June is the beach, and my birthday, and my eleven year wedding anniversary (whoa!) and a few more tour stops and ALA and, and….

…but now I am getting ahead of myself. Which I'm prone to doing, these days. Being home usually helps me to feel present but honestly I still feel like part of me is catching up from all the excitement and...

Middle of holiday weekend, but….

….I just found this link to a video of my BEA speech. You can see me sweat as it happened! Also, disregard clacking at start of my speaking, that's just my knees knocking. Yikes. I just watched this and got that sick, nervous feeling all over again. And I'm sitting here in my kitchen! Talk about visceral.

Anyway. Want to see what I was obsessing about for, um, months? Watch it here.

Hope you are all enjoying the beach, deviled eggs, flip flops, and all good things summer this weekend.

Have a g...

The Five!

1. You didn't think I'd actually be able to WAIT to show this picture, do you? Or that I was cool enough to NOT ask for a picture from her at BEA? Please. I know I have a million other things to tell you about as well—this week has been, really, insane—but my speech at the Children's Breakfast on Tuesday morning was the biggest thing I've done in a while. Or, um, ever. The room was HUGE, packed with people, and I was sitting with Brian Selznick on one side and Kevin Henkes on the...
