The Friday Five!

1. I’m writing this from a local coffeeshop, having just endured my annual Lady Appointment. Ladies, you know of what I speak. It’s just part of being a girl, but NO fun whatsoever. So I celebrate being done (and my bravery while getting stuck by a needle) I got myself a second breakfast:

And yes, that IS the biggest chocolate chip cookie EVER. My plan is to eat part and give the rest to my kid after her lunch. We’ll see if that actually happens. I know, greediness is NOT very ladylike.

2. In o...

The Friday Five!

1. Yesterday was Teen Lit Day, which is one of my FAVORITE days because it is also Rock the Drop. For those who haven’t heard about it, it’s something that Readergirlzcame up with a few years ago. The idea is that you take YA books and leave them around your town for people to find and enjoy. So I picked a few of my own paperbacks, printed out the Rock The Drop bookplates, and headed out into Chapel Hill. First stop was a bus shelter where I always see a TON of UNC students:

Then I headed to m...

The Friday Five!

1. It's not only Friday: it is GOOD FRIDAY, which, although I am not religious in any specific way, is a holiday I can get behind. Who doesn't like Good? Today has actually been really nice in a lot of ways, but mostly because my daughter and I went to have lunch with my mom at her new retirement community. With my dad away, it was just Us Gals. I have to tell you: if you're having one of those parenting days where you are at the end of your rope and totally frazzled, just take your small...

The Five!

1. Okay, so the biggest news is….(via PW Children's Bookshelf, couldn't find a direct link):

Regina Hayes at Viking Young Readers has signed YA novelist Sarah Dessen's 11th novel, The Best After Ever, which will be released in May 2013. Set in the fictional beach town of Colby, where several of Dessen's novels take place, it features 18-year-old Emmeline, who is spending her last summer before college working for her family's vacation rental business and enjoying a summer romance with a...

You asked, here it is

Due to popular demand (okay, about five people, but STILL!) here is my magic bar recipe. Will it get you into GMA? I make no promises. Also: it does not contain actual magic. Unless you count chocolate chips.

Okay, here it is:

MAGIC BARS

1 stick margarine

1.5 cups graham cracker crumbs

1 small bag chocolate chips

1 14 oz can condensed milk

1 c. coconut

2 small bags chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350. Melt margarine in a saucepan. Add graham cracker crumbs and stir, then pat mixture into a...

The Five!

1. So I'm just back from New York, where I had the BEST time (not to mention the best weather: 80 degrees? In March? What?). Regular readers know I am a total GMA nerd, so of course the first morning I was there I had to go to Times Square and visit the show. It was Hunger Games Week, which meant there were HUGE crowds, even at 6am, an hour before the show began:

I knew that all the Hunger Games stuff was going to make it harder to get in, so my daughter and I made magic bars before I left...

The Five!

1. Yes, it's Friday. And it's GORGEOUS out, around eighty degrees. These things make me happy. But what makes it all even BETTER is that there is SO much basketball on today. Thanks to March Madness, all three of our local NC teams are in play today. NC State already won, my Tarheels play at 4:10 and then Duke is tonight. I literally am giddy because this is the ONE sport in the world I truly adore. Football is too slow for me. Ditto soccer. (It takes SO LONG to make a goal! Man! I'm clearly ...

obsessing

Regular readers of this blog (if you're still out there, since it's not exactly regular these days) know that I tend to get sort of fixated on things. And TV shows. And people. What can I say, it's a sickness. Anyway, this weekend I discovered TWO things I am currently thinking about way too much. The first: my Roomba.

I saw this robot vacuum cleaner at Sam's Club a couple of weeks back, but was discouraged from my buying it by my husband. (And by discouraged, I mean he laughed at me...

remember me?

I have been SO off of blogging I wasn't even sure how to begin this entry. Which is CRAZY, considering how often I used to do it. What, you may ask, HAVE you been doing with all your time? Well, there's been this little matter of raising my kid. Also a first draft of the next book to try and finish. Plus: husband's business things, brawling with NC Dept of Revenue (don't ask, will just say do NOT recommend it) coddling my chickens, helping my parents get ready to move for the first time in...

The Five!

1. Okay, I know. I've been seriously gone from this blog for…well, a long time. The truth is, I've been in serious writing mode for the first time in, like, a year. Which is GREAT, except if you happen to be this blog, in which case you are hopelessly and totally neglected. I think I have said here before how I've never been able to write well WHILE promoting a book. It's like my brain just can't handle both at the same time. So once I was done with The Book Tour That Never Ends (But Finally ...
