The Friday Five! (or Saturday Five. Or…I don’t even know, really.)

1. I just started this Five apologizing for being so late. Because I thought it was 7pm on FRIDAY, not Thursday. Which it is, as I’m writing this. I have a good reason for being so discombobulated, though. First off, the floor guys have been here all day (Thursday), my bed and bureau are in my living room, and my ears are ringing from the compressor popping. Also, I’ve been trying to do major edits on my next book, which is hard even when you DON’T have a parade of strangers coming in and out...

thank you…

Just a quick (and very early: 6:54 on Sunday morning, yawn) thank you to everyone who left SUCH great advice about my kid’s birthday party. Will definitely check around for a Pump it Up like place and hit Oriental Traders or the Dollar Store for favors. You guys rock. As usual.

Okay, time for coffee. LOTS of coffee.

Have a good day, everyone!

The Friday Five!

1. The chaos continues around here. Today, it’s some furniture being delivered, wood for repairing our kitchen floor getting dropped off, and our laundry room has been totally ripped out. My husband, as I have said, is barely fazed by this. To him, it’s business as usual. But I keep finding myself coming over here to my office and just EXHALING, enjoying the fact that everything is working and quiet. Especially me. But I know, in the end, all the upheaval and stress and craziness will be wort...

The Five!

1. Yes, I know this is usually a FRIDAY Five, and it’s Thursday. But this week has been nuts, and tomorrow I’m spending the day with my best girls from high school, doing our annual get-together, so I’m going to try and get this done today. Which is hard because I have been going non-stop since about six this morning. It was like the perfect storm of STUFF happening around here: husband leaving for race track at 5am, guys coming to take down a dead, leaning tree by 9, plus babysitter and othe...

for your Monday…

…a picture we took this weekend. See, we CAN all get along!

And now, I will go lick the bowl from the blueberry muffins we just put in the oven and call it breakfast. Hey, it’s Monday!

Have a good day, everyone!

The Friday Five!

1. There are a lot of good things about being married to a carpenter/contractor, as I am. You can get things fixed without bringing someone in, for example. Also nice is that I rarely have to hammer a nail for anything, although that’s mostly because it makes him VERY NERVOUS when I look like I’m about to do so. The flip side—it’s not a downside, just a truth—is that when you are married to a contractor, they are used to job sites. And they have no trouble living WITHIN one, if it means they...

The Friday Five!

1. I’m starting this entry at 7:34 am, while my kid watches Toot and Puddle in the playroom. On the TV behind ME, in the living room, GMA is covering the movie theatre shootings in Colorado. This kind of news is just so horrific: I have no words. I can’t even imagine how the families of the victims are coping, the town, and all the chaos and sadness. We live in scary times, and we know that. But once in awhile something happens like this that brings it right up close. Too close. Heartbreaking...

my weekend in tweets

Because I’m over on Twitter more than on this blog lately—to be honest, I’m on Twitter more than ANYTHING, i.e. too much, but whatever—I decided to collect all my tweets from this weekend and put them in an entry here. Just so you have an idea of what went on. Which, I realized as I read them over is….not much. So this will probably be a one-time thing. It was also a LOT of cutting and pasting, although I bet there’s an easier way. If there isn’t, someone needs to invent a program that does i...

The Friday Five!

1. I am only JUST now getting caught up on sleep, mail and everything else I fell behind on during the last week when I was with my extended family on Cape Cod. But it was TOTALLY worth it. Gorgeous weather, cousins everywhere, and lots of laughing and swimming and general silliness. It’s always a long day going and coming back for us—airport, 2 hr flight, rental car, drive to Cape—but once we pulled up at my aunt’s house, which we were renting, I forgot about all that. It was just so, so lov...

The Friday Five!

1. I’m writing this from the playroom, crammed into a corner, with all of our belongings piled up all around me. Which is pretty much the way things have been since Tuesday, when our painters arrived to redo the entire downstairs. It is just CRAZY around here. Between that chaos, the dogs, my kid and trying to do my own work, I am beyond frazzled. On the upside, though, the color looks REALLY good and I know it’s going to be worth it, when it’s all said and done. Which will be…oh, dear, I can...
