Discover Hope in the Hard Things

Large or small, we encounter challenges as we live out our stories. Maybe you know “salt” as trials, tribulations, tests, traumas, hurdles, bumps in the road, setbacks, or heartbreaks. But regardless of the name, these more difficult aspects of life are part of the human experience. Where we differ is in whether we let the hard things we encounter define us. Does this salt enhance the flavor of...

Tahiti dreamin’

I love visiting the island. The people are lovely, the coconuts and bananas are tasty, and the poisson cru is off da hook. But mostly, when I go I’m there to surf… Check out this video edit, which is a compilation of footage from several trips over the years – including the filming of Soul Surfer way back in 2010!

Directed By Truth

So when these times hit I keep reminding myself, “God is bigger than the emotion that I’m feeling right now.” Because I try not to steer my life by my feelings; rather I steer my life by Truth. But how do you lean into God’s truth when life gets messy? When insecurities come calling? When you experience something that makes you want to scream, “Enough already!”? Here’s what I know:

Bethany’s El Salvadorian Guacamole

Not to mention, avocados have an impressive health resume: a great source of vitamins C, E, K, and B-6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium (more than a banana!). As if that isn’t enough, they also provide lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids. Basically a humble health food giant. This extra fancy El Salvadorian guacamole was our “.

Being Coachable

Hear some insight from my childhood surf coach, Russell Lewis, about what it’s been like to coach me over the years. Having the opportunity to be coached is a privilege that I’m truly thankful for. I love to soak up everything Russell and any of my other surf coaches tell me. If I have one piece of advice for you today, it’s BE COACHABLE.

The Man Who Will Celebrate You

Psalm 119:9, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” I love getting parenting advice via other moms, podcasts, and books. Currently I’m reading a book about teenage boys and their hormone changes. I’m kinda scared… “Lord help me trust in you!” My boys are only 3 years and 1 year old – ha ha- but I’m already getting paranoid.

Kelsey Johnson’s Story

“How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.” (Psalm 31:19 NLT) Kelsey Johnson met me shortly after the amputation of one of her legs. She had come to my Beautifully Flawed retreat in search of hope and encouragement in the midst of the difficulties she had been facing.

A Posture Focused Workout

Posture is more than just your mom saying “sit up straight.” Although that’s not a bad place to start. When we carry ourself upright with strength and grace, it’s beautiful; we will naturally be more confident and be seen as welcoming! When I was thinking about workouts to share with y’all, I felt a posture focused workout would be awesome. This workout is filled with...
