The WASPs is OUT!

And buzzing around like a proper uh.. insect?

This book came together really quickly. Some stories are more ponderous or require more frequent stops to re-examine motivations, but this one seemed to fly out of our fingers.

It's a bit of a parody in that the characters are obvious WASP stereotypes, but we hope that we brought some heart and soul to the silly and that you'll enjoy it!

Without further ado… Order your copy of The WASPs

THE WASPS, out July 6th

Coming July 6th to a Dreamspinner Press near you… my latest collaboration with Thursday Euclid. It's a sort of send up of this modern life of the extremely wealthy ala (though not as good as, I mean, come on) Jane Austen. Sort of a vision of what would happen if Darcy and Bingley got together (like they should have!)

Cover for The WASPs by Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid

Blake Brooks's life is not going as planned. His wife kicked him out to move the nanny in, and his father disinherited him. The only haven he has left is his old boarding school buddy, Tyrone Edwards. It turns out Tyrone has a room all ready, clothes picked out, and and a place in his life reserved for Blake and his daughter Bitsy, whom they both adore.

Tyrone has always played it straight, even in boarding school when everyone was experimenting. Now he's giving Blake mixed messages: affection and teasing one minute, fobbing Blake off on a gay co-worker the next. Is Blake succumbing to wishful thinking, or has Tyrone been holding out for Blake?

So once you're all cooled down from your HOT 4th of July, stop by DSP to heat it right back up with…

Out now: Semi Precious Weapons, a m/m novella

Semi Precious Weapons from Phaze Rocks series:

The second Chris lays eyes on glamazon model Jason in a club, he knows he wants him.

To his great surprise, Jason wants him too.

In spite of being a model himself, Chris still feels like a gangly boy from Texas. After Chris sides with Jason's frenemy Sebastian, Jason bolts and Chris realizes Sebastian isn't all that he seems.

Will Chris be able to win Jason back or will he have to live with the regret of losing the one true thing he'd found in the glamorous and fake City of New York?

Sexy model boys all sexy and cute! You know you want to…

And yes, all of this editing is keeping me quiet :)

Jonathan Franzen's 10 Rules of Writing (via 101 Books)

I know Franzen isn't popular with everyone, but I did enjoy "The Corrections," (enjoyed "Freedom" less, but it was still very good. I couldn't write like him and don't aspire to (I have very different goals and my own idols) but I do enjoy looking at other writers' perspectives. They're hit or miss, as any list will be, but thought provoking, so I thought I'd share. WordPress has made it so easy. I'd give it a kiss but I don't know where it's been.

Jonathan Franzen's 10 Rules of Writing Last week, I posted about George Orwell's rules for writing, so while I'm finishing book #12: The Corrections I thought this would be a great opportunity to check out what Jonathan Franzen has to say on the subject. This list came from The Guardian: The reader is a friend, not an adversary, not a spectator. Fiction that isn't an author's personal adventure into the frightening or the unknown isn't worth writing for anything but money. Never use t … Read More

Tech note: backing up gdocs

Though I was not affected by the Gmail lockout a couple of weeks ago, and even though full service was restored (as far as I know,) it was definitely a strike against cloud computing and made me concerned for the information that I keep on Google services.

I use GDocs to collaborate with cowriters and often for jotting down notes or even writing on the go. I have several computers and having in progress works in the cloud saves me from keeping track of jump drives (which is a good thing, as I suck at that.)

I love Google. Let me just preface anything I'm going to say with that. I love Google. Seriously. However, it's not perfect and any computer system can fall prey to DDOS or just plain equipment failure. So rather than scream and cry and get angry with Google for something that can and will happen to any service provider, I decided to find another service to back up my Google data.

There are many options, but these are the two I chose. One, just a good old fashioned back up to my hard drive using gdoc back up. This keeps the files in your possession, however, you do need to make sure that it's running. Two, I chose Backupify. I've just started the service, so I can't tell you how it will play out, but currently you can have up to five accounts backed up for free. This includes Facebook and Twitter (I don't say anything important enough to keep on those, but you might) and your Gmail, Blogger, etc. You get up to 2GB of data for free. After that, they jack up the price.

The free plan only backs up weekly, but for me, at the moment, that's good enough. I might pay the $5/month if I like the service.

Anyway, just a little tidbit. I know a few of you also collab on Gdocs and thought this info might be handy.

You say it's your birthday?

Mine was to days ago. So yours isn't the same as mine if it's today and I'm not going to sing the song with you. You're alone. Hah. Deal with it.

Obviously, I'm in a mood.

For whatever reason, I decided to go home for my birthday. Visit my mom. I mean, after all she was there when the tragedy happened. It's at least partially her fault.

The drive was long and mostly boring. It involved a lot of bad singing, as long drives often do. Another time in my life I would've taken a plane, but it's hardly worth it with all of the security issues. I only want to be groped by three strangers, my masseuse, my doctor, or my clergy.

My husband also gets groping rights but he's not a stranger. So, you know, get to know me.

Or something.

Anyway, so Arcade Fire won the Grammy for The Suburbs and the song really resonated with me. Apparently they lived near where I grew up during their formative years and were so traumatized, they channeled it into the pain that helped them win a Grammy.

I'm just biding my time. I was plenty traumatized by NW Houston. Now I just need a talent.

The drive was boring. Flat lands. Cows. Dead trees. Cows. Dead cows. Exits. Billboards for God and gotcha slogans about how well billboard advertising works so well that they have managed to, indeed, annoy you.

Then a billboard for beaver nuggets.

Sounds like something I'd contract in the bathroom rather than something to eat. So I go to my favorite place for a snack–a little truckstop where I sit in my car and watch the prostitutes move from truck cab to the next.

Dinner and a show. Welcome to the ass of civilization. I'm heading into the deep crazy. Meditating on debauchery, dreams that have died to the point where sucking a greasy trucker penis sounds reasonable while I eat really puts me in the mood for what I'm about to endure.

Or so I think. It's never really enough to prepare you for the full horror.

That said, I had fun. I've long since learned to disassociate myself from the Nazi flags and get rich quick scam churches on the drive through town.

A good way to disassociate yourself from a situation is drinking. Lots and lots of drinking. Half bottle of champagne and three gin and tonics. And an ambien for good measure. Then a visit to Ross to dress for less. My mom bought me shoes. They're green and make me happy.

She made me and Thursday spaghetti and devil's food angel cake with strawberry and whipped cream.

Devil's food angel cake. Yeah, that's what I mean. Poor little cake was so confused. Nothing for it but to put it down and eat it with the whipped cream. Which we did, with relish. Not actual relish. I don't think that would've added to the recipe.

Maybe I'll try it next time. I think the ambien blocks out taste receptors, so why not?

Anyway, happy birthday to me. I think we'll karaoke later. Or check out that alligator show.

Oh and Bedknobs & Beanstalks is out on Kindle

Whipped Cream says Black Gold is "a story I will certainly reread."

Cover for Black Gold by Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid

(I will never tire of this cover. I love you, P.L. Nunn)

Says Tuberose:

There are both sweet moments and hot sex between Goldie and Jett, they respect and trust each other no matter what is thrown at them and always open with each other. The loveable characters with their devotion to each other and the rocker aspect make this a story I will certainly reread.

The review was 3.5 stars and mention the overabundance of dialog. I definitely hear that, and it's something I'm giving the critical eye to in future manuscripts (rewrote a few things already.)

I appreciate honest reviews. They give me something to consider. While there are some criticisms that will always be "salt to taste," on review I see their point. It's all about improving.

Still, I'm happy with this book. These characters were a lot chattier than most (silly rockstars, so much to say) and I'm very pleased that someone would consider reading my stories not only once, but reread them.

Anyway, enough of my babbling, read the rest of the review.

And check out the book at Loose Id or buy for Kindle on Amazon.

"Black Gold" named one of Joyfully Reviewed's February Recommended Reads

Black Gold is one of Joyfully Reviewed's February Recommended Reads.

" Black Gold skillfully blends an imaginative look at the cut throat music industry with an incredibly passionate love story. This is a raw and gritty drama woven into a romance that begins with baby steps and results in a powerful commitment. While there are a few bumpy scenes that push reality, it is wonderful fun to envision Jett and Goldie challenging their version of authority and making their relationship work. Black Gold is a riveting page turner with an emotionally intense storyline, as well as powerfully erotic and tender moments. I Joyfully Recommend Black Gold as the winner."

And if you were waiting for it to be on Kindle…Black Gold is on Kindle now!

I'm slightly excited. It's been a pretty good day.

In fact, there's another review, but I'm going to post it later because, you know, too much at once and also I'm tired .

Dark Divas loved "Black Gold"

Samhain Queene of Dark Divas said:

Black Gold was a rocking, passionate meeting of opposites that were meant to make beautiful music together. Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid did an amazing job of blending the superstar pop idol with the brash, hard edged punk icon. Goldie and Jett are that perfect mix of music created by acceptance and love.

Very excited to see so many positive reviews coming through. The gorgeous cover by P.L. Nunn definitely gave the book a great boost. I still stare at it and drool.

Thanks to everyone who has read it. This is definitely a great way to start 2011. Here's hoping that my next collaboration with Thursday Euclid, Playing with Fire –tentatively scheduled for release by Loose Id in May — is as well recieved.
