UK Meet – A Meeting of Minds
Last Saturday I attended the UK Meet, a get-together for fans and writers of MM / FF, GLBT. It was the first time I'd really attended anything like it, so I didn't really know what to expect. I'd already had some involvement with the organisers as I contributed to both anthologies that were put together for the meet, British Flash and Tea and Crumpet, but other than that I had no idea what to expect.
Luckily, my buddy Victoria Blisse was in attendance so I knew one person, at least! Us Northern birds would stick together. My OH kindly offered to play taxi, so we collected Ms. Blisse from Milton Keynes train station and the fun began! We got to the venue in plenty of time, which was fine because it gave us more time for chinwagging, which we're ohhh, so very good at.
A while later, more and more people started to arrive and proceedings began. We all stood up in turn and gave a brief introduction of ourselves and whether we were readers, writers or both. Then there was some general chatter and we broke for lunch which gave us time to eat, of course, and also to talk and mingle with people. Victoria introduced me to Serena Yates, who I'd previously corresponded with by email, but was happy to meet and found her a delight to chat with. I chatted to a few others and had my fill of naughty foods, checked out the promo goodies on the table and generally soaked up the atmosphere.
After lunch, Ms. Blisse herself chaired a panel on writer's block, which was fabulous. In her usual chatty, friendly and humorous style, Victoria made her points in a fun way and had us all giggling. And very good points they were too – she made several suggestions on how to beat writer's block, but rather than repeating them all, I'll direct you to her blog post where she's done a recap.
Next up were Total-E-Bound, who gave a fabulous presentation and basically consolidated my previous conceptions of them (which were very good) and made me even more eager to work with them. Claire and Heidi were very friendly and approachable, but also know what they're talking about and give the impression of a company that knows what they're doing and are eager to please both their authors and their customers. I look forward to visiting with them in September when they're hosting an open day.
Following on from Total-E-Bound were a trio of historical writers, Erastes, Charlie Cochrane and Alex Beecroft, who gave excellent tips on writing historicals. Comments included the importance of research, not needing to go into silly amounts of detail, information on dialogue and dialect and more. I haven't really considered writing a historical before, mainly because the idea of all the research and getting facts wrong frightens the life out of me, but the three writers on the panel certainly made it seem less daunting. So, never say never!
Clare London was up next, talking promo – my favourite! She made lots of very valid and interesting points on websites, Twitter, Facebook, forums and more. What I liked was her way of using visual aids to break up the presentation and also bring in a bit of humour and talking points. I know lots of people find promo daunting (hence setting up my business!) but Clare reminded people that it can be done, and successfully!
We ran out of time for the previously arranged panels, but I would say that the ones that did happen were informative and useful, and people definitely took things away from it. We were encouraged to ask questions which opened up discussion to the whole room and as a result, many ideas were thrown about. I certainly have some food for thought.
A mass signing session wrapped up the day for me, where I passed my contributor copy of Tea and Crumpet around to get it signed by the other authors and then had to dash to get lovely Victoria back to the train station on time.
Despite the fact the majority of the writers in attendance were m/m, I still felt the day was worth it for me. So much of the information was relevant to writing in general, and not specific genres, that it wouldn't have mattered what I wrote.
Overall, it was a very positive experience for me, and I'd definitely like to attend next year's meet, if they'll have me!

Six Sentence Sunday – 24/7/11
Thanks to everyone that swings by and comments each week – it's very much appreciated (though remember the comment link is at the top of the post, I noticed some people commenting on the previous blog post by mistake). So, without further ado, I'll give you the next six sentences, following on directly from last week. Just in case you weren't here last week, this is from my new collection, The Best of Lucy Felthouse, which contains five erotic stories previously published in Xcite Books anthologies.
Towering over most of the people milling around, he stood against the wall, out of the way of the crowds. From where I stood I could see he had dark hair and eyes, and that was about it. I scraped a hand briefly through my hair and headed over to him.
He caught my eye as I approached.
"Corporal Stokes?"
"Yes ma'am."

Uniform Behaviour is a Diva!
Just spotted… another awesome review for Uniform Behaviour, this time from Dark Divas Reviews! They rated it 4 Delightful Divas out of 5, and commented:
"Each author's style was unique along with their level of spice, but what was consistent was the care for maintaining quality stories in similar lengths. Ms. Felthouse's anthology will have you looking at people in all uniforms differently from now on!"
You can check out the review in its entirety here, and also check out the various retailers it's available from here.

Book Review: Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris
Article first published as Book Review: Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris on Blogcritics.
Dead Reckoning is the eleventh book in The Southern Vampire Mysteries and I know that some people have got bored of them now, calling the books formulaic, amongst other slightly more insulting terms. However, I'm one of these people that tends to stick with a series until the end – I've invested this much time reading the previous books, of course I've got to see what happens next!
Honestly, though, although I can see where people are coming from in terms of calling the books formulaic, I'm still enjoying them. And Dead Reckoning, though not the best of the bunch, was still a good read that I whizzed through in a couple of days. (Also, if you haven't been reading the books, look away now, there will be spoilers if you watch True Blood but haven't read the books).
In this book, Sookie and Eric are still enjoying their tumultuous, sex-filled relationship. However, as always, things don't stay simple for long. A firebombing at Merlotte's leaves Sookie unhurt but shaken, and Sam's already declining business in even more trouble. As an investigation starts to take place, Sookie's has her own suspicions, but she's soon distracted by something even more worrying.
Eric and Pam are behaving oddly, particularly towards one another, and Sookie doesn't like it. It's obvious they're keeping something from her and the more they do, the more determined she is to find out what it is. What with trouble at work and trouble in her love life, Sookie's got a lot to deal with. But she does so in her usual stubborn fashion and the more she digs, the less she likes what she finds. And as usual, she's thrown right into the thick of all the trouble. But how long can she keep getting involved before she gets seriously hurt?
Overall, this was a fab read, though not the best in the series. Admittedly, the series is a little formulaic, but it works. Besides, as I've been reading so long now I've grown to really care about the the characters, and this is what it's about for me. I'm still loving the fiery relationship between Sookie and Eric and some of the humour is priceless. Some more things that had previously been unanswered were cleared up and, as usual, the book ended on an ambiguous note, leaving readers wondering what will happen next. Dead Reckoning was a good, fun read and I'll definitely be picking up book twelve when it's released.

Product Review: Seven til Midnight Flirty Frills Thong Green
The lovely folks over at SexToys.co.uk sent me some more lovely things to play with and wear – one of the latest being this Seven til Midnight Flirty Frills Thong.
What I like about this thong is the fact it's not massively skimpy. The frills, as well as being pretty also give a little coverage for those ladies who don't want to show too much off. But it also serves to highlight the curves you most want to show off.
The Flirty Frills thong isn't really the kind of underwear you can wear under tight clothes as you'd be able to see the frills – but then, this is bedroom underwear, isn't it?
It's a fab piece, wherever you wear it. It's beautiful, well made and the material is comfortable. It's also stretchy, so no digging into your curvy bits with this yummy green thong! In my opinion, it's worth every penny.
The only downside? It doesn't magically give you a figure like the one in the photo
Get your hands on the Seven til Midnight Flirty Frills Thong here, and also check out the matching bra!
More Reviewy Goodness
The things that keep me writing are many, and reviews are definitely one of them. When I'm writing I tend to get sucked in and just get words down on the page as quickly as I can, striving for an ending. It's easy to forget that (hopefully) somewhere down the line, somebody is going to be reading the words I'm putting down. And when I'm reminded I then keep my fingers tightly crossed that people are actually going to like what I've written. Just lately, though, it seems that I'm getting something right, which makes me very happy!
Another two reviews popped up last night, one for A Bit of Rough and one for the not-yet-released Loose Ends. And here you have them:
"Wonderfully written this is an Erotic Tardis taking you back to memories of what might have been, definitely one for those long dark teatimes of the soul when you crave some real lusty passion to escape with." 5 out of 5, SexyReads.co.uk
"If you like your erotica crammed with a wide variety of "try this at home" sexual positions, and with a healthy dollop of tattoos thrown in, then A Bit of Rough by Lucy Felthouse is a hot must have." Kay Jaybee
You can also see a post on fab new site Erotic Whispers which contains a teaser for Loose Ends. Yum!

Perhaps I would become immune to the charm of the uniform after seeing it constantly for a couple of days? Only time would tell. Five minutes to be precise; which was the time it took for the train to pull in at the platform and for me to get off and look around for my lift. As I'd expected, he wasn't difficult to spot. As soon as I laid eyes on the six foot plus frame of Corporal Stokes, I knew I would never get bored of that uniform as long as I lived. Especially on him.
