Snippet Saturday- World Building

As a writer who dips into both the paranormal and the contemporary pools, I think there's world building that occurs in both of them. It's far more obvious in the paranormal– will my werewolves need a bite for the change to occur, or not? What about the humans around them? Are they aware of the existence of the shifters, or not? Those questions need to be answered, and hopefully not simply in a list of 'here's what to expect.'

But even in a contemporary as a reader I need to discover what...

Thursday Travels

It's been a while since I shared pictures. Here are a few from a trip we did two years ago to the Broken Group– small islands off the coast of Vancouver Island on the Pacific Coast side. These are the kind of pictures I review as I'm writing the Pacific Passion series.

This was the trip that we kayaked–son and I in solo kayaks, daughter and hubby in a tandem. One afternoon as we were traveling from island to island to make our next camp, the wind picked up and we had to battle 2-3 foot waves. ...

Doing the Snoopy Dance

Okay folks, I did it! Handed in Turn It Up to my editor at Samhain today. WHEEEEEEE!! Edits are completed on the Carina Christmas story as well (although it doesn't have a title right now ;) ) and I'm HAPPY!!!!

Dance with me?

Just for the record? I wrote over 100K this summer. I'm pleased with how both stories turned out, and quite amused that they are completely different than each other–one sheer absurb fun, the other a bit more of a tearjerker at times, but still with some funny...

Snippet Saturday- Happy holidays!

It's time for some holiday snippets, or as I would say in Canada, vacation time baby! Oh boy, I have a few snippets I could share, but somehow it needs to be this one. Naughty Thanksgiving anyone?

Psst…NSFW.

~~~
Setting both the wall ovens to heat, Maxine turned to manhandle the massive birds to the island to finish stuffing them only to find Ryan had everything including the premade ingredients lined up in rows waiting for her.
"Wow, you're efficient," she complimented him.
He wiggled his brows a...
Still buried…
But I missed you guys. ;)
I'm at that point in the story where all I can see are the faults. I want to make it all bright and shiny before my editor gets it, en route to reaching you. Sometimes the absolutely brilliant moments I saw while I was writing, now as I go through for the umpteenth time, don't look as smart, or as clever.
For you writers out there? Don't give up. I'm shaking my head a little, but still finding the fun in the process even if, damn it all, this time it's a lot more work t...
Going into the cave
Holy deadlines, batman…I'm going to have to hide out for a bit. I have a little more work to finish up the current projects due very soon, and I want to do a good job and not rush, so I'm heading into the cave!
Actually, it's not that bad. I'm doing revisions and adding some details to Turn It Up, and there are second edits on Falling, Freestyle. Just enough things I need to not play for a few days.
Feel free to hang out and eat some chips and dip. I'll be back. Soon!
Oh! I should mention.
Saturday Snippet- nom nom
Time for a little good tasting fun. Hmm, so many snippets to choose from. I might have a thing about food in story scenes, ie, I LIKE them! Picking this one for you, from Wolf Games. Enjoy!
~~~

The area grew more crowded. Their tray of food arrived, distracting him for a second. Maggie stopped chatting, closing in on herself. Erik glanced around to see other wolves had joined them and now sat at the counter.

One slid closer to Maggie and leered. "Hey, sweet thing. You new in town?"

Erik lifted a ...

In my kitchen

I do a few things outside my writer's chair. Really! ;) I like to cook when I have the time, but when I'm busy, I have an ongoing love affair I fall back on. My crockpots. Yup- more than one.

It started when we lived out of town and my kids were young. I'd plan a trip in and do everything all in the same day. Groceries, library, hit the swimming pool for lessons or fun. We'd often be out of the house by 7 am because my kids were early risers, and then not home until mid afternoon. I knew I'd...

Mid-Month Update

Not bad, it's the middle-ish still!

I have been crazy busy, and yet having a blast. Yes, I can say that now since I know I'll make my September deadlines. Here's what's been happening in my writer's world.

Just in:

Cover for Falling, Freestyle arrived. O.M.G. it's gorgeous. I asked for, and got, Angie Waters. She's done most of my paranormal works at Samhain, and ventured over to do this cover for my contemporary menage out in December and she rocked it. Perfect. Will show you as soon as...
