Give Thanks by Jenna Jaxon
This week, on Thursday, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, each in their own way, across the entire country. It is almost universally celebrated as a time for family to get together from near and far, to touch base, renew, catch up, and celebrate the bonds that tie us to the ones who mean the most.
In some cases the family is made up not of blood relatives, but of best friends or neighbors who have come to be family. For others it may be a day of giving to others by volunteering at a food pantry, a soup kitchen, or homeless shelter to bring a glimmer of that special warmth that only occurs when people bond, even if only a bond of circumstances.
My celebration has changed several times over the years. Growing up the day was celebrated with just my parents and me, eating at the stroke of noon, with turkey, dressing, and much of the bounty that came from my dad’s garden: squash, butter beans, potatoes, and collards. The day was extra special because it was the one day out of all the days of the year that you could count on all three of us sitting down to eat together.
In all the years until my mom died, I only missed one Thanksgiving, while I was away at college. To me that will always be the year without a Thanksgiving. Because even though I had a big dinner with my college friends and then another one with my boyfriend’s family, it lacked the traditions I had come to expect, and needed to make the day special.
For a while after my dad died, my family went out of town to have Thanksgiving with a friend, and now we travel back to our hometown and my dad’s family has a huge dinner with all family members coming from as far away as Michigan and Florida to gather together and celebrate family. And I always bring my dad’s collards, not fresh from the garden (alas), but done to perfection. I think he’d be proud.
To everyone traveling home for the holiday, I wish you safe journeys, fabulous food, and warm hugs from those you hold dearest.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Shopping Days with Authors Maggie Mundy, Belle Ami, and L.D. Rose
Welcome to the first of what I hope will be many Holiday Shopping Days with sexy, delightful and fun romance authors. Here are some new books out for the holiday season.
Maggie Mundy’s newest paranormal romance, Scarred Protector, is the second book in a trilogy called The Midworlder Trilogy.
BLURB:
Angels and demons are not what you think. They are aliens, and the Midworlders are their representatives on Earth. An Angelic Midworlder called Heath goes to the aid of Evie who is about to be attacked by Demonics. He soon discovers she can see the angels and demons around her and is in grave danger. He is captivated by Evie who has physical and mental scars like him. They are tortured souls who are deeply connected by his past. There is an evil lurking inside Evie that could kill them both.
I asked Maggie why she wrote and she sent me back this interesting experience at a writers’ conference.
Maggie: I was at a conference recently when a wonderful speaker called Patricia McQuinn asked us to write down three reasons why we write and mine were.
1. Acceptance by peers.
2. Make lots of money and be famous.
3. I want people to love the stories I write.
As the session progressed we had to get rid of two that we could live without. I ended up with number three. Most people there had the same experience. So the next time you feel sad from a rejection, or a review, or poor sales, remind yourself why you are doing this.

Belle Ami writes sexy and suspenseful romance. Here is a little bit about her book
The One.
BLURB: How well do you really know the one you love? The One proves that no one is quite who they seem. After a whirlwind courtship and marriage, Adelia’s “happily ever after” begins to fall apart when she learns that her husband has become the lead suspect in her parents’ murder investigation. So begins my saga of the star-crossed love affair between Adelia and Miles and the lies and betrayal that threaten to destroy them.
EXCERPT:
“Do you believe in love at first sight?”
“I..I don’t know. I suppose it’s possible, but…” Her eyelashes fluttered in confusion.
“I know you might think I’m crazy, but I’m a man who knows what he wants. I’ve fallen in love with you, Adelia. I want to marry you. You’re the one I’ve been waiting for. I can’t really explain it, but I know that we belong together.” His face was unreadable. It was as if he threw a line out to fish, he waited to see if she would take the bait. With his arms around her, he waited for her response.
She was speechless and felt the ground give way beneath her feet. “Miles, I don’t know what to say. You’re a bit high and might just be taken with the moment and last night. We barely know each other. Why don’t we think on it tonight, and you can ask me again tomorrow? Don’t worry if you change your mind or regret your hasty proposal. I won’t hold it against you.” She kissed him sweetly before breaking away from his embrace and getting into the limo.
Before the car sped away, Miles reached in to kiss her hand. His eyes were completely sober. “I told you when we met that I’m impulsive and that it has usually served me well. I knew the minute I saw you, Adelia, that you were the woman I wanted, the one. Tomorrow, the next day, or the day after that—nothing will change my mind!”
Belle: “I love when characters have their own agenda, their own good or evil intentions that cause mayhem. That’s what keeps a series alive, and that’s what keeps me writing.”

L.D. Rose write dark paranormal romance and is here with Releasing The Demons.
BLURB:
Blaze Knight has been through hell and back, but the nightmares aren’t over yet.
Five years after Blaze was maimed by Cyrus Chimola, a powerful vampire with a penchant for torture, he’s still trying to pick up the pieces of his shattered life. As a genetically engineered mercenary with the ability to bend fire to his will and to see in infrared, Blaze’s mission is to protect what’s left of humanity. When Chimola and his crew return to the Bronx gunning for Blaze’s blood, Blaze is forced to face the demons of his past. Hell-bent on revenge, he seeks the help of Valerie Medeiros, an NYPD detective who manages to steal his heart and save his life in more ways than one.
Motivated by her sister’s gruesome death, Valerie has made it her life’s goal to bury every vampire in the ground where they belong. When she brings in Blaze Knight for suspected murder, she discovers he’s not only innocent, he isn’t a man at all—he’s a half-vampire hybrid working with a band of brothers for the U.S. military. Valerie has a hard time trusting anything with fangs, yet she quickly falls headlong into Blaze’s life, a life full of darkness and horror she can’t even begin to fathom. The bodies are stacking up, but Valerie can’t seem to let go of this hybrid, a beautiful monster filled with pain, rage, and passion unlike anything she’s ever known.
In a world where the line between good and evil is blurred, Blaze and Valerie will find danger at every turn, risking everything they’ve come to know and love, including one another.

A paragraph about me:
I lead a dramatic double life chock full of chaos and mayhem! Ha ha, just kidding. ;) I’m currently a resident physician at a big academic center in New England. This may sound crazy, but I didn’t start taking writing seriously until I went to medical school. I wrote my debut novel, Releasing The Demons, in its entirety while studying to be a doctor. Many of the traumas the hero in RtD goes through were inspired by my one-month stint rotating through a locked psych ward at a major New York hospital. Don’t get me wrong, I love being an MD, but I’ve been a writer my entire life and I always wanted to see my work published some day. Working in the medical field and watching people become sick (and sometimes die) on a near daily basis made me realize if I wanted to achieve my goal of publishing a novel, I shouldn’t wait. I should go for it, no matter how busy or crazy life is, because who knows what could happen tomorrow? Many patients I took care of voiced so many regrets while they lay on their deathbed and it really got to me. Don’t put off your dreams or one day you may not have a chance to achieve them.

Thanksgiving, Creativity & Family by Stacy Hoff
Photo of Thanksgiving dinner at my house.
I love everything about Thanksgiving. The food. The family. And the chance to get creative.
My relatives can feel free to claim all the other other holidays, but Thanksgiving is mine. I cater exactly the way I want to because, hey, I’m finicky. For me, cooking is yet another way for me to express myself creatively. I spent a year taking weekend cooking classes in order to learn the basics. Then I learned how to get schmancy!
Yes, I made this turkey myself!
It took me yet another year, however, to learn that unfortunately not everyone loves what I cook. Especially my kids. No matter how long I spend brining the turkey, sautéing the potatoes, or making that green bean casserole (you know the one I’m talking about), the only item ever eaten on my boys’ plates is the store-bought, previously frozen, macaroni & cheese dish they force me to serve. Sigh…
Maybe I should stick with writing. Then again, my kids would never read anything I write, either. Since my novels can be as steamy as the dishes I cook up, maybe that’s a good thing.
At least my kids will eat my desserts!
Yes, I made these, too!
What do you do to let your creativity loose this time of year?

Guest Author Elizabeth Lynx on Wattpad by Heather Novak

Please welcome author and friend Elizabeth Lynx to Nights of Passion! Elizabeth is guest blogging today about her experience with Wattpad.
To Wattpad, or not to Wattpad: that is the question. Sorry Shakespeare, you are my favorite author to rip off and you’re dead so there’s that too.
But the question is a legitimate one. It’s something I pondered about a year ago when I joined the writing community. Because that’s exactly what it is, a community. Everyone there is an author, perhaps some are on the site just to read free stuff, but the majority are fellow authors.
A lot of these Wattpad authors are new to writing and need the feedback that one can get when they post a chapter. There are some established authors on Wattpad, usually just posting a chapter or two of their upcoming or latest release. Another marketing tool for them.
For the rest of us, the struggling indie authors and wannabe authors, it’s a place where we are with likeminded people. Just about every genre in writing is on Wattpad, from Science Fiction to Romance to Paranormal. Yes there is Fanfiction on Wattpad, probably what it is most known for, but it’s not the only thing. Apparently a lot of people like to write about Harry Styles from One Direction. I don’t know but I guess it’s a thing.
Anyway, the great thing about Wattpad besides the feedback from fellow authors and fans while you are working on a manuscript, is all the other stuff. Even my current NaNoWriMo project, Soaring Below, I am posting on Wattpad for feedback. They have contests and features, some of which I am still learning about. There is also something called Wattpad Stars that helps you get your book published. I think you have to have a large following to get into that program so it may take time.
As usual with most of these sites they have discussion boards and areas to promote your stories.
What have I learned and found most helpful? The contests. Especially a big contest. Some big publishers and small publishers hold contests on the site. My story, That Sweet Deal, was in the So You Think You Can Write contest that Wattpad sponsored with Harlequin for a two book publishing deal for the winner. I made it all the way to the Top 25 which I thought was pretty awesome.
I’m not disappointed I didn’t make the Top 10 and I will tell you why. For starters I wrote that manuscript really fast just so I could make it into the contest to fit their qualifications. Therefore I look at that manuscript as a first draft, so the fact I made the Top 25 is amazing in itself. Secondly, I got the editors at Harlequin to look at my full manuscript! It was a way to get my foot in the publishing door so to speak. Most people who send their manuscripts to big publishers like Harlequin usually get some lowly assistant of an assistant who ends up looking at maybe the first few pages of a manuscript and then is rejected. I bypassed that and got their top editors to read my entire manuscript. That’s awesome. Thirdly, and what I view as most importantly, entering the bigger contests is a great marketing tool.
How is it a great marketing tool? Because once I made the Top 25 suddenly people came out of the woodwork to read my story. I went from about 500 views of it at the end of September when time to enter the contest closed to over 15,000 views two months later. And I didn’t do anything different then enter the contest. Sure, during the Top 55 phase I begged people to vote for my story to make the Top 25, but that only got me 75 extra votes at the time. That’s it. It was just being in the contest and having that #sytycw15 tag on my story that got me all those views and votes.
Also, a few of my fans of the books I write outside of Wattpad are from discovering my stuff on Wattpad. Since my fan base doubled due to the contest I suspect I will keep getting more fans to buy some of my books outside of site.
I know it might sound like I can’t say enough about Wattpad, but it has its drawbacks like anything out there. There is very much a large young crowd, especially teenagers. For a romance author like myself that has steamy stuff not everyone can read it because I have to label it as mature. Also, Wattpad is still learning and growing while testing things out, some of it works and some of it doesn’t.
As a relatively new indie author I will try just about anything that might help. That’s what I did a year ago with Wattpad and I am finding, as I learn more of its features, it is paying off. As they learn and grow, I do too. Check it out, if you like it try it. If it’s not your thing, don’t.
Meet the author:
Elizabeth Lynx writes romantic comedies with quite a lot of steam. Most people imagine Bridget Jones Diary when they think of Romantic Comedy, but Elizabeth’s books are more Bridget Jones meets Christian Grey, so it’s best not to eat food or drink hot liquids while reading her books as it can become dangerous (I am told by law I must put in this warning to protect people).
Not only does she write romance she also has many theories on life and especially, her life. There is one thing she knows for sure, she is not a robot. At least she says she’s not. She is also not a space alien. How do I know this, because she was born in Baltimore Maryland in the 1970’s when no one wanted to be in Baltimore Maryland so why would her parents say that if it weren’t true. Of course she has had her suspicions growing up and is still in a continual search for evidence that backs up her space age theories.
To bide her time she writes about ‘normal’ people and their sexy romantic lives. Her husband chooses to put up with her theories and paranoid musings. Her two little boys help her see that perhaps she isn’t an alien but more of a climbing rock. This theory is new, so she needs more time to develop it further.

What We See
For the past few months, I’ve walked around talking about the negative state of my surroundings. Everywhere I go, people seem to be unhappy about something in their lives. Recently, I got feedback on this and while I’m still reeling from its impact and trying to understand what to do with it, I find myself shocked to find that the person who gave me the feedback is right—and considering this is the same sort of feedback I give others, I find irony in the fact that I was so shocked to receive it.
Okay, so I’m sure you’re wondering what this feedback was so here it is… I was told to try and change my perception of those around me. That it is not necessarily that everyone is simply negative, but that everyone is on their own life journey trying to find out what is right for them. I get this! I also tell my employees this to some degree… we have at least a couple choices, we change the way we see something or we walk away. These choices exist in most situations and the other realization here is that we HAVE choices, we always have a choice. So perhaps we are in a crap job or in a crap home situation or relationship, but we never have to be there. We choose to be in these situations and we can choose to change that any time we want. I’m not saying there aren’t consequences. There are always consequences and many times, these consequences are what keep us from making a move. And that is okay. Timing is of importance in life, just don’t let it pass you by as you are waiting for that perfect moment.
So what are you going to choose today? Will it be to see the world a different way?
Happy writing this week!

A Darker Paranormal-Scope
While I am not qualified in any way to read neither stars nor planets, I am intimately linked to the paranormal in the world in many ways. So are you.
The paranormal-scope is for entertainment purposes only and is not meant to guide your life by.
The week for:
Aries:
Even zombies have some awareness. Others think you’ve been sleeping or not paying attention. You’re going to surprise them this week. Smile a lot.
Taurus:
Dragons love the sanctuary of the cave. Right now you need some down time in a sacred space to re-energize and examine your priorities.
Gemini:
Hobbits are devoted to the home and garden. Focus your attention on clearing clutter and new decorations. Bring in plants to freshen the air.
Cancer:
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. This goes for people as well. Gryphons are fierce to their enemies but devoted to friends.
Leo:
Shapeshifters may be adaptable but they make concrete goals on which to plan their future and work toward those desires that want most to attain.
Virgo:
Like mermaids as they come to the surface, emotions can be too apparent. Keep them closer to your vest or people will use them against you.
Libra:
Like a Bear Shifter, you have strength and power on your side. Stay strong. If you vacillate in your decisions, you will lose credibility.
Scorpio:
Like an Eagle Shifter, stay focused. You are about to finish an important project that will have a long ranging effect on your life.
Sagittarius:
It takes more than an angel to keep your faith strong. Believe in your dreams and push to make yourself forward. You have the ability to make them true.
Capricorn:
Dragons roar with you this week. It’s time to think big and bigger. Put your plans into action. It’s time to put what you know to use.
Aquarius:
Werewolves will tell you it’s best to hear the opinions of the pack before making important decisions.
Pisces:
Vampires guard their secrets and their sacred place. Do the same. Don’t let others invade your serenity. Wait until you meet someone worthy.

Pray for Paris
I’m not usually one to comment on current events, however, the tragedy that occurred in Paris two nights ago made me want to write a brief, but heartfelt post about the courage, the resilience, and the resolve of the French people in the face of this despicable treachery.
I went to Paris several times a number of years ago while doing research on my dissertation. The summers I was in Ireland a dear friend had an apartment in Paris and I would fly over to visit for Bastille Day. I have some of the most wonderful memories of Pairs: going to a cinema and having to specify to have butter put on the popcorn; standing in awe in Notre Dame Cathedral; walking down narrow little streets shopping for clothes for my girls; eating lunch at 95 Metres, the restaurant half way up the Eiffel Tower for my anniversary; exploring Versailles; and sitting on the rooftop of my friend’s apartment sipping wine and watching the sun go down over Paris..
To hear of the madness Paris has been subjected to sickens and infuriates me. Although all I can do is small things to let the French people know that they are not alone, I will let them know that my prayers and thoughts are with them. Hopefully they will weather this storm with the grace for which the French are so renowned.
Vive la France.

Waiting for Abigail
In all the things in life that we do, nothing is as priceless as love. Romance authors really know that. I’ve been very fortunate to have love in my life and be surrounded by a loving family. Having a baby is a blessing! In the dark times the world is undergoing, such a light of love gives us hope of a brighter future.
The name Abigail is from the Hebrew meaning Joy of the Father. In our family tree, there was an Abigail in the 2nd generation away from the Mayflower. On that side of the family, she is descended from the Warren and Church families of Plymouth. Ah, a tiny Pilgrim and so worth waiting for! My granddaughter Abigail!
Wishing, everyone, love! Keep those you cherish and that cherish you close.

Guest Author Anna James by Stacy Hoff
Hello Passionate readers! Today I have on a guest author—romantic suspense writer Anna James. Anna is one of the most prolific writers I know. Back in 2010, she released her debut novel. Since then, Anna has penned eleven novels and novellas! Wow.
How Anna manages to maintain a high-powered, full-time marketing job (which requires her to fly all over the country) and continuously crank out quality novels is way beyond my comprehension. And if that doesn’t keep her busy enough, Anna is a wife, mother of five, and a grandmother, too.
I wish I could balance my life as well as Anna. Color me envious!
I asked Anna what inspired her to write her upcoming new release, A LOVE WORTH SAVING. Her answer is simple: she’s intrigued by the subject of amnesia, and loves writing suspense.
Here’s Anna to tell you a little bit more about A LOVE WORTH SAVING, and all about your chance to win one of her books.
Hi Folks,
I want to thank everyone here at Nights of Passion for having me here today. It’s great to be back again! For those who don’t know me, my name is Anna James and I write contemporary romance with strong heroines and heroes who conquer life’s trials and find their happy ever afters.
I’m here today to share an excerpt from my upcoming novella, A LOVE WORTH SAVING – Book 2 Forever Yours Trilogy which releases on November 25, 2015. (Soul Mate Publishing, Inc.)
Blurb:
Reed McNamara knows that love is an investment that never pays out. That’s why he’s sure he doesn’t love his wife, Ashley. Theirs had been a mutually agreed upon fun and games while it lasted affair … until Ashley got pregnant.
Tragedy strikes when Ashley miscarries and the sole reason for their marriage is lost.
Though Ashley thinks they could salvage their life together, all Reed wants now is to put the past behind him and concentrate on saving his floundering company.
But when Ashley demands a divorce, and her ex-boyfriend—the love of her life—starts sniffing around, Reed discovers that he might be throwing away a love worth saving.
Excerpt:
Reed strode into the ballroom at the Peninsula hotel at nine-thirty that evening, two and a half hours late. He scanned the full expanse of the room with its dark-wood accents and twinkling lights looking for Ashley.
He found her immediately. She stood a few feet away, her back to him, surrounded by a group of people. One of them said something. Ashley answered, her tone a low, husky purr.
Lord, he missed the sound of her voice. He missed the hint of citrus that clung to her skin, and teased his senses when he came near, and her warm, welcoming smile.
Dear god, he’d missed her. The realization slammed into him with the force of a freight train and had his head spinning.
Part of the crowd around her disappeared. He got his first look at her in more than a week and . . . Holy hell.
The breath whooshed out of him and he stared. No, ogled would be a better word for what he was doing, standing there, his mouth gaping open, imagining all sorts of inappropriate things he’d like to do with her.
That dress. It clung to her in all the right places. And those heels . . . They made her long, lean legs look great. Not to mention what they did for her ass.
She turned as if sensing him watching. His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets at the sight of her plunging neckline and so much bare, creamy, skin on display.
Get a grip. Ex-wife, remember? Not quite true. She was still his wife, and tonight, they were going to play the blissfully happy newlyweds. She’d agreed.
He’d hold her to it.
