New Year’s Day by Stacy Hoff
Happy New Year, everyone!
Are you recovering from last nights festivities? Me, too! There are champagne glasses strewn around and leftover platters with remnants of tasty food. My house is a mess. But while the cleanliness quotent is low, the happiness factor is high. It was great celebrating, even if I did so in my pajamas. Along with everyone around me.
Yep, I celebrated this New Year’s the same way I do every year—with my family. It’s as fun as it is informal. The crowd is small, just my folks, my husband, my kids, and Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve.
Today the rest of the family will wake up whenever they’re able to rouse themselves. Me, I’ll enjoy the quiet. It gives me time to contemplate everything I hope for in the new year. Health, wealth and happiness. (Hey, why not? Dream big!)
I wish all of you a fantastic 2016. What are your hopes and dreams for the new year?

Banish Resolutions by Heather Novak
Resolutions are tricky suckers. They make you think you’re doing something awesome for yourself, when really you’re taking on a giant task without any kind of follow up direction. Instead of making a giant resolution, make a promise to take steps in the direction you want to go in, whether it’s to finish writing your novel or to lose a few pounds.
Last year, I promised myself that I would find a better way to complete a manuscript. After doing the research, I found Candace Haven’s Fast Draft workshop to be the best thing for me. With her help, I completed five manuscripts! This year, I’m following the same path.
I promise to try my hardest to be my best self, and know that some days will be more successful than others. I promise to be kinder to myself. It’s time to acknowledge my talent and never stop striving to learn more. I promise to continue treating the inside of my body as well as the outside of my body.
And of course, I promise to finish one full length manuscript.
Remember this New Years Eve, don’t promise yourself the stars. Promise that you’ll treat your inside and outside with more respect and take baby steps toward your dreams. You’ll be much more successful.
Wishing You Laughter & Good Books,
Heather Novak

2016, What Does it Mean to You?
2016 is going to be a year of reflection and action. That is my resolution.
2015 has been a year of change and a year of unhappiness for many I’ve met, most especially in the workspace (the day job). Some of it makes logical sense and some of it while not really warranted, needed to be made know to satisfy those experiencing such unhappiness. Still, as I look around me at those who are unhappy, I’m not sure what to say except “change it.” I know it is not that easy, in fact, changing the way you view the world and going for what you want are probably some of the most difficult things to do. If they weren’t, we’d all be doing our dream job and we’d all be much happier.
This all being said, for those of you ready to truly make a change—not a superficial change that you’ll drop 2 weeks into the new year, but a substantial life-changing move, think about what it is you want. What is it you value? Do you want to write a book? If so, why? What do you want to write about and why? Do you want to lose weight? If so, why? These may seem like silly questions but the true answers really make a difference. What does that book or weightloss symbolize to you? When we dig behind why we are doing something versus just what we should do (e.g. I should eat a salad because it is healthier or I should get my Master’s because that is what all my friends are doing), our actions have a greater meaning.
So I repeat, for me, 2016 is going to be a year of reflecting on what is really important to me and taking action. What will 2016 be for you?

My New Alpha Bites Series! By Mandy Rosko
Woot! Check it out…
(My internet is insanely slow right now, was going to put up the other two cover images I commissioned, but they’re not uploading for some reason, so here’s the link to my facebook page. I promise they’re awesome ;) so go check it out: https://www.facebook.com/MandyRoskoRo... )
My new Alpha Bites Series is getting under way. Alpha is going to be released on March 22 and the Preorder is live on Amazon now! On Sale for a smaller price before I raise it after release :)
Lol, Even though the first book is just on the last chapter before off to edits, and the covers are done, I was asking my brother and sister in law about a series title. I was all like: “What do I call a series that has the word alpha in every title?”
My big bro goes: “Alpha bites!”
Me: “Sold.”
Lol. I suck sometimes XP but it was funny, and I love that Series Title. Gonna work up a series logo for it soon :3 Can’t wait for that, but for now I wanted to share these awesome covers and show you all what was on the way.
Cheer!

A Williamsburg Christmas, Part 2
As I told you last week, my family lives only about 20 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg, which is decorated beautifully this time of year. I’m continuing with pictures from the little trip my daughter and I took last week to see the sites in the Christmas season in Williamsburg. This is The Williamsburg Inn.
The night we were there, they held an illumination, with torches, the firing of muskets, and the fife and drum corps, with a docent reading about the history of the Capitol. Here’s some more pics of that event as well.
Hope your holidays continue to be merry and bright!
Just a reminder: Today is the last day to get my Christmas novella, A Kiss Beneath the Mistletoe, for just .99!

Alec Isley is between a rock and a hard place. He desires a marriage with Jenny no more than she does, but when his family’s dire financial status is revealed, he follows Jenny to the house party in hopes of convincing her to marry him after all. When he discovers who else is courting her there, Alec is frantic to keep her from making a dreadful mistake. Struggling with new-found feelings for his childhood friend, can Alec convince her of his love in time to save her from being ruined under the mistletoe?

The Qualities of A Hero! A Holiday Exploration!
I hope everyone has had a fun holiday. With the New Year’s Eve celebration ahead of us, the excitement doesn’t end there.
As a romance author, I am an observer of human nature, and I also read a ton of romance novels. My eyes went wide when I saw some interesting parallels.
Both in reality and in romance novels, heroes have the following traits and act certain ways:
1. The hero is an in-charge kind of guy, someone who is respected and looked up to by others.
2. The hero notices what the heroine is wearing and gives compliments and is interested in what the heroine wants in life.
3. The heroine is excited over the prospect of seeing the hero again and dresses up.
4. The heroine finds that her heart is all a flutter at the sight of the hero.
It is an interesting to note that the first crushes take all this into account.
Some young ladies have crushes on celebrities like Bert or Ernie or …
Merry Christmas and Ho ho ho. May all your Santa Breakfasts and Santa Dinners be bright! If you celebrate a holiday with an exchange of gifts, I hope your gifts were just want you wanted or needed. Spread the joy!

Happy Holidays by Stacy Hoff
Happy holidays to all the Passionate readers who celebrate Christmas or Kwanzaa. I wish you a lovely, peaceful time with your friends and family. To those of you who finished celebrating Hanukkah, I hope your holiday was filled with joy and happiness, too.
Off all the holiday stories, my favorite is O’Henry’s “The Gift of The Magi.” Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, the profound love in this story is one not to be missed. To me, it exemplifies the meaning of selfless giving. I read it in high school, and the teacher who assigned it gave me a holiday gift!
Here’s Wikipedia’s summation of the classic tale: “[A] young couple who are short of money but desperately want to buy each other Christmas gifts. Unbeknownst to Jim, Della sells her most valuable possession, her beautiful hair, in order to buy a platinum fob chain for Jim’s watch; while unbeknownst to Della, Jim sells his own most valuable possession, his watch, to buy jeweled combs for Della’s hair.”
It has a fantastic premise, doesn’t it? What’s your favorite holiday story?

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas by Heather Novak
**Congratulations to Kim Henidis, the winner of last week’s contest. You’ll receive an autographed copy of Every Little Kiss by Kim Amos!**
We all have our holiday traditions. Something Prince Charming and I like to do is buy an ornament from every new place we visit together! That way, when we’re decorating the tree (which will probably be today, I’m not gonna lie), we can remember the cool places we’ve traveled and talk about where we want to go.
Then, I put on My Fair Lady followed by White Christmas and wrap my presents.
We also send out funny holiday cards. Here is this year’s card!
Whatever your traditions are this holiday eve, may they be filled with joy and love!
Merry Everything!
Wishing You Laughter & Good Books,

The Value in Resolutions
It’s that time of year again…the time of year where we ponder what our New Year’s Resolution is going to be… STOP! This year has been a year of realizations for me and in the midst of all these realizations, I’ve come to learn that change is not necessarily effective unless it is change that you value (this is self-realized and doesn’t come from any sort of public research or opinion). What I mean by this is that it is important to know yourself and know what you value before setting out to achieve or change something in your life.
Why is this important? Think about the past few years. Now I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I’m not alone when reflecting on the many resolutions I’ve made and not kept over the past few years or decades. Weight loss, exercise, write more, eat better, be a better person—some of these I’ve actually pushed forward for quite a while. The problem with a lot of our resolutions is that we do them because we believe they are what we should be doing versus thinking about what we value and why we should do these things.
Think about weightloss or exercise since these are pretty common. How many times have you gone out to a restaurant and eaten a salad because that is what you should be doing? Many, I bet (if you are anything like me). But what if you started approaching the situation differently? What if you started telling yourself that you were eating the salad because in the end, it was going to make you feel and look better and these things were really important to you? What if writing mean you were taking steps toward a life-long dream and that you might have the chance of finding true happiness doing something you love? As silly and small as these changes of thought might seem, they also may change how you approach these resolutions that were things you simply should do and not really connected to something important to you. I’m not saying this will resolve everything but it has certainly been a step in the right direction for me.
Good luck writing this week and thanks for joining me!
