Return to the Squishiest Place on Earth: BizarroCon 2009 Report

Thursday

Thursday was the first day of BizarroCon held at Edgefield manor in Troutdale, OR.  Before we talk too much about what happened at BizarroCon you need to take a look at what Edgefield is like.  It is a magical place that is the perfect location for this gathering of literary weirdos.

Stop Being Boring – some quick thoughts on readings

Over the past two weeks I attended BizarroCon '09, the World Fantasy Convention, and one local reading of several authors.  Amongst these groups of people there was a wide range of literary and story styles on display.  Yet, there was one thing all these groups have in common – Boring Readings.

It seems that very few authors realize the power that a good reading can hold.  Normally when talking about promotions and advertising for one's book, an author in thinking in terms of home many books...

Small Press Conversations: Mykle Hansen and Andersen Prunty

Thanks to Kevin Sampsell for posting the immensely entertaining and informative email conversation between Famous Author Mykle Hansen and Andersen Prunty.

"I guess I just want to write for the ages; I want to make works of lasting meaning and beauty. I hope that after this year's hysteria has been exploited by this year's loud and tacky books, my work will remain loved. I want to leave something behind besides family and a corpse — though I dearly love my family, and my corpse."

Check it out...

Kristopher Young Speaks the Truth!

"Technology is beginning to catch up to idealism, and that's a beautiful thing, because technology is a tsunami. It wipes the slate clean. It destroys outmoded business models overnight. And while the middlemen and corporate offices might put up a futile fight, or run around in circles screaming, it really doesn't matter. Digital distribution removes all these barriers, and while some companies seek to build new, artificial barriers so they can charge a toll, I say, let the technology flow...

Rumors Of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

Hey all, its been a long time since I've been around.  The past two weeks have been insane with BizarroCon and the World Fantasy Convention happening back to back.  During that time I was completely cut off from the internet and have a lot of catching up to do.  Expect full reports on those conventions later this week.

Unfortunately, these events have put me a few days behind on shipping out copies of "The Magazine of Bizarro Fiction."  To make up for this delay I grabbed a whole bunch of...

The Magazine of Bizarro Fiction – Issue #2 out now!

I'm back from Bizarro Con and totally exhausted and happy.  It was a joyous four day celebration of Bizarro fiction.  I'll have a full write up on the con real soon.

In the meantime, I want to announce that the second issue of "The Magazine of Bizarro Fiction" is out!  The featured novella this issue is "The Traveling Dildo Salesman" by Kevin L. Donihe.  I make no secret of the fact that I am a huge Donihe fan and I believe this story is one of his absolute best.  I am thrilled and honored to...
