Back from Sylvia Beach Hotel or the part of my blog where I make you look at vacation photos
Last week I went on a much needed vacation to the Sylvia Beach Hotel on the Oregon coast. I went there with Rose O'Keefe, Carlton Mellick III, Mykle Hansen, and Cameron Pierce. The place is a paradise for readers and writers. No phones, TVs, or internet. After the marathon couple of months October to February was, it was great to get away and do nothing but read, write, and walk on the beach.
All of the rooms are themed around a different writer. Here's the Poe and Dr. Seuss rooms.
The common a...

Preview of Super Giant Monster Time!
by Jeff Burk
illustrated by Chrissy Horchheimer
You set your sights back on Nelson and charge. He braces and when you collide, he grabs you, lifts you off the ground, spins around three times, and throws you at the window the attacking creature is looking through.
You fly through the air and smash through the glass. You keep traveling and go right through the monster's eye. You can feel the cornea give in and then break. You become...

Naked Lobster Cabaret – Reading Report
Last Thursday was the first of a series of Stand-Up Comedy/Burlesque/Bizarro performances called Naked Lobster Cabaret. In case you missed the poster before, here it is again:
This was the first in a series of bimonthly events but together by Portland comedian and friend of bizarro Whitney Streed. She has a great essay up on her blog detailing her logic in putting the event together.
She had urged me to go "all out" for the event. Taking her words to heart, I spent the immediate 48 hours...

Report from RadCon 2010
RadCon in Pasco, WA is one of the coolest/craziest conventions the Eraserhead crew hits up every year and this year was no different. This RadCon was extra special as Rose O'Keefe was the small press guest of honor.
Rose O'Keefe, Carlton Mellick, Cameron Pierce, and myself made the trek from Portland to Pasco the Thursday before the convention. We stopped at some breweries along the way and had a nice pleasant trip. We got to the hotel and checked into our room. Nothing was going on...
