My Favorite Pizza

TPW_8107Let's face it: I have a list of favorite pizzas so long, it stretches out the front door and well into our north pasture. This is but one of the thousands of pizzas I have known and loved; it's completely delicious. It's a vegetarian pizza, too—most of my favorite pizzas are—which means:

a. There's more for me!

b. I have to make a second pizza for the raging carnivores in my house.

This is a cinch, though, as my pizza crust actually makes two pizzas. So use half the dough to make a pizza...

Cinnamon Bun Pancakes, and other Fat Tuesday Matters

TPW_7998It's Fat Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras, which means you get to eat and eat and eat all day today and you won't gain even an ounce!

Wait…that's not what Fat Tuesday means.

Okay, I remember now. Fat Tuesday is the day before Lent, the forty-day Christian season of prayer and fasting. Growing up, we called it "Shrove Tuesday" in our Episcopal church, and celebrated every year by having a big, fat, gnarly pancake supper in the parish hall. I loved the Shrove...

Spaghetti & Meatballs

TPW_7873I love—I mean love—making spaghetti and meatballs. Oh, don't get me wrong—I love eating it, too. But if I had to choose forever between cooking it and eating it…well, wait a minute. I don't know which I'd choose. Never eating spaghetti and meatballs again in my life would be pretty devasted.

What I'm trying to say in a roundabout, backward, incoherent, motormouthed way is that I derive a great deal of satisfaction from cooking spaghetti and meatballs. There's just something about the mixing o...

A Simple Valentine's Dinner

valentines2If you're wanting to make a Valentine's Day dinner this weekend, you don't have to break out the beef tenderloin and tiramisu…unless your sweetie has expressly requested beef tenderloin and tiramisu, I guess. And then it would probably be a good idea to make it lest he or she interpret your not making what they wanted as a complete display of rejection and betrayal.

Rejection and betrayal, whether perceived or real, have no place on February 14.

Here's an easier way to go, just in case your ...

Happy Chinese New Year!

Tomorrow (Friday), I'll be having a special Valentine's Day-geared giveaway here on The Pioneer Woman Cooks. It'll be lots of fun, I'll be asking you a personal question or two, and it'll keep you out of trouble…at least for a minute or two.

chinese2Before that all begins, though, I wanted to give you this link to a neato post by Jaden on the Tasty Kitchen Blog, wherein she explains the food-related traditions she and her family follow each year, and provides links to various Tasty Kitchen...

Olive Oil Cakes with Lemon and Thyme

TPW_7258I was seduced by a Tasty Kitchen featured recipe from the other day, so my Valentine's recipe I'd planned for today was thwarted. I had to make these so I could get them out of my system and stop thinking about them.

I was intrigued by the ingredient list for these little cakes: olive oil, fresh thyme…and lots and lots of lemon flavor. So I grabbed my younger daughter—the one who most loves to be in the kitchen—and asked her to help me make them.

I was lazy. I didn't want to zest.

The batter ...

Butter Chicken, Valentine's Day, and Other Matters

Several vitally important matters this morning. Hunker down; this could get ugly.

(I seriously don't know why I say things like that. Some residual need to grab the attention of my entire family back from when I was four, I guess. Kind of like the time I walked into the house and announced that a cockroach had just crawled out of my eyeball, just to see what everyone would say.)

TPW_71681. Today on the Tasty Kitchen Blog, I posted a step-by-step recipe for an evil dish called "Butter Chicken"...
