Herb Roasted Whole Chicken

This yummyl recipe is brought to us by my good friend Ryan, whom I affectionately call Pastor Ryan. But you can call him Ryan, The P.R., Renaissance Man, or Jeremy Renner. Or you can call him Pastor Ryan.

And speaking of Jeremy Renner, please look at this resemblance:

It's just crazy, is what it is.

Sorry.

Carry on, Ryan.

I just had to get the whole Jeremy Renner elephant-in-the-room thing out of the way.

Hot Cross Buns

TPW_3253To me, Hot Cross Buns are as synonymous with Good Friday as scrambling around town to buy Easter Egg dye and synthetic blue grass. There's so much legend and lore behind Hot Cross Buns, which date back to the old country. English folklore said that Hot Cross Buns baked on Good Friday would never spoil throughout the following year. Some bakers believed that holding on to one Hot Cross Bun and hanging it in the kitchen meant that all yeast products in the coming year would rise successfully...

Sigrid's Carrot Cake – My Favorite Easter Treat

DSC_0146This is one of my favorite Eastertime recipes from the PW Cooks archives—Easter, because of the carrots, which makes you think of bunnies, which are a sign of fertility, which I guess you could turn into a symbol of new life, which is what Easter is all about.

Carrot Cake Theology: It's my specialty!

Passover Brisket. I Think.

TPW_2612Okay. I think we've more than established that when it comes to correct methods for cooking and serving Passover food, I am not the authority to consult.

You want chocolate sheet cake that uses a pound of butter? I'm your man.

You want mac and cheese loaded with bacon? You've come to the right place.

Got a hankering for a big ol' steak with blue cheese sauce? Check.

Need a good resource for kosher-for-Passover recipes? Run, don't walk, toward the trillions of human beings on earth who...

Peach Noodle Kugel

TPW_2354I'll be sharing a mix of both Passover and Easter recipes this week. I just love this time of year. Celebration, new life, cherry blossoms, daffodils, Passover, Easter, and delicious food galore.

Well, I should clarify: daffodils, only if you don't have a cow who thinks she lives in your yard and is entitled to munch on daffodils for a late afternoon snack.

I'm sorry. I'm still just a little angry over it. If she touches my peonies, Daisy might have to go live with another family of...

Spring has Definitely Sprung!

1My friend Erika posts weekly over on Tasty Kitchen, and she has developed this delightful habit of making collages of Tasty Kitchen recipes based on a different theme every week. For this week's theme, "Spring", Erika pulled out all the stops with her collages. When I saw her post this morning, I immediately put on my gardening gloves. It made me very excited.

And hungry.

Please. Read this and weep:

The Theme is…Spring!

Here are some other recipe collages from the post (check out the post i...

Creamy Lemon Crumb Squares

TPW_1634This recipe came from Marlboro Man's grandmother. When she moved years ago from her home in town to a retirement apartment in the big city, Marlboro Man and I somehow, miraculously, wound up with one of her cookbooks, which was stuffed full of loose papers on which scads of recipes had been handwritten. This recipe actually didn't have a title—just the ingredients and directions—so I was flying blind when I first made it a few years ago. It was only after I finished the recipe and took a...

A Blast From the Past

pots2 I'm just finishing up the photos for my next recipe, but since we're entering into flowery, lovely springtime, I wanted to bring this quick and easy—and too precious for color TV—dessert idea from my archives. I first posted it back in 2007 as I was making my way through a little recipe book I used in high school, and my girls plan to make some this weekend. I expect you to have a freezerful of these delights by 5:00 this evening.

Back on the golf course, I used to have a traditional...

Murphy's Hot Hamburger

While perusing the yummy delights on Tasty Kitchen the other day, I nearly fell over when I saw this recipe. It was a replica of a dish from Murphy's, a famous burger joint in my hometown. My soul immediately began to sing, and I made plans to make it as soon as possible.

TPW_1426Known as a The Hot Hamburger, this Murphy's creation is the stuff of legends. I used to run to Murphy's the second ballet season was over and celebrate my emancipation from carrot sticks. College kids go straight to M...

Tom's Trinidadian Chicken Curry

TPW_0815I have a friend named Ivory Hut. I love that girl.

Ivory Hut has a husband who is, among many things, Trinidadian.

Recently, Tom—who's the type of man who'd take his elderly mother back to her home country for an extended trip because the winters in America are difficult on her—took his elderly mother back to Trinidad for an extended trip because the winter in America was difficult for her.

Wow. That was sort of a deja-vuish sentence there, wasn't it?

Anyway, Tom—who's the type of man...
