Bare Bones By Kathy Reichs
I don’t watch the television show ‘Bones’ but had been told that I would enjoy it by a couple of people. A mixture of mystery and interesting main characters and some autopsy thrown in for laughs. So this week I picked up one of Kathy Reichs’ books. After just one chapter I knew she had to be at least a coroner or medical examiner. It turns out this lady is brillianto! Fast moving, interesting stories as well as great character development and all that almost immediately. Hmmm. Seriously though, Reichs is not only an MD but also a PhD and really knows her stuff – i.e. forensic anthropology. I am sure she bases some of her stores on real life drama but no way real life moves this fast.
This book starts with what seems a domestic case but quickly accelerates into maybe a drug smuggling operation. People are disappearing left and right, especially those our ME wants to speak with. Our heroine, Temperance Brennan, is knows to all as Tempe. She is mother to an adult daughter and separated but not divorced from her husband. They all have seemingly good relationships and she socializes with her daughter quite frequently. Tempe’s romantic life is also highlighted in this story. The man in question travels between the US and Canada as does Tempe and on this visit she realizes she is serious about him. Her daughter invites them to a picnic where they fall upon yet another case which thwarts their plans to get away on holiday.
Her husband’s dog, which she is looking after for a few days, digs up some old bones at the aforementioned picnic. Kids are suitably traumatized and Tempe is back on the job. There is also the call from law enforcement about a small plane that went down in the middle of nowhere with at least two victims on board. The people are burned and unrecognizable but again Tempe is called in to do the forensics. A federal employee joins the scene and all of a sudden we have about three stories going at once. This seems like it would be hard to keep track but it really isn’t. This is written in a way that you don’t want to stop reading. Personally I liked the way her private life was woven in to the main themes as well.
I haven’t seen these books on the best seller list but that may just be an oversight on my part. These are well written and fun books. Tempe is very likeable and I definitely want to get more of these books and find out more. I may actually have to go and get the first season of Bones too.

Neil Strauss – Surviving the Game
Neil Strauss was until 2005 best known for his journalism and ghost-writing. Having written acclaimed features for ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine on seminal artists like Eric Clapton and Nirvana, he had gone on to ghost-write autobiographies for Marilyn Manson and Mötley Crüe, both of which were extremely successful; the latter greatly helping the band revitalise their career in the new millennium and is currently being adapted for the big screen.
Still, despite his successes, Strauss felt there was one area of his life where he’d fallen short: he was unable to meet women. Being a very deep and intelligent man – Strauss claims to reread James Joyce’s magnum opus Ulysses every three years for fun – didn’t seem to help when he didn’t even know how to introduce himself to a member of the opposite sex. He did some research online and found that there was a secret society of men, known as Pick-Up Artists, or PUA’s, who regularly hold workshops to help Average Frustrated Chumps, or AFC’s, like himself to meet women.
Strauss signed up for one of these workshops, held by a PUA calling himself Mystery, and thus began a two year thrill-ride that would eventually be chronicled in Strauss’ ‘The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists’. Less of a how-to book and more like one of the autobiographies he helped ghost-write, it tells the story of Strauss’ ascension within the seduction community, transforming himself from Neil Strauss, LA based writer, into to Pick-Up Artist Style. Incorporating different techniques passed down from Mystery and other authorities like Ross Jeffries, Style eventually became the No. 1 Pick-Up artist in the world.
Some of the techniques, such as the NLP used by Jeffries, seem a bit dubious, and some a bit stupid, but it made for a thrilling read that sent the book to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list in September 2005 and again in September 2007. The book ended on a high note, with Strauss deciding to leave the seduction community after finding true love in Lisa Leveridge, guitarist for Courtney Love’s band The Chelsea.
At the end of 2005, Strauss passed on his own set of techniques, entitled the ‘Annihilation Method’, to 5 selected followers over the course of a three-day seminar at his California home. Recently he sold a limited amount of copies of a DVD, which was only available via credit card from his website and taught the ‘Annihilation Method’; while in late 2007, thanks to huge demand for an actual how-to book; Strauss penned the sequel to the ‘Game’, entitled ‘Rules of the Game’.
Ultimately whether you believe a lot of Strauss’ PUA advice will work or not, or whether you believe the stories contained within the novels are true or not, it does make for interesting reading, and if nothing else, next time you’re out at a bar, you’ll realise why a man asks a total stranger whether she saw the two girls fighting outside or if she would like a rune reading.
Amish Tripathi – An Indian Author
Amish Tripathi is synonymous with his first book, The Immortals of Meluha. It became a best seller within a week of its release making its way to the best-seller lists. It is the first of the Shiva Trilogy which centers on Lord Shiva; it is a biographical account of the Hindu deity who in Tripathis’ words was – “just a man, 4000 years ago but is today remembered as the Mahadev (the God of Gods).”
The Shiva Trilogy is set in 1900 BC at the backdrop of Meluha and begins with the arrival of Neelkanth who drinks Somraas and his neck turns blue. Neelkanth is Shiva and he saves the people of Meluha from further wars. The trilogy also describes how gods were human beings ages ago until they achieved immortality as a result of their deeds and actions. Indians refer to those times as the Indus Valley Civilization. In the book, Meluha is referred to as the ‘near-perfect’ empire that was created by Ram many centuries ago. Several publishers declined to publish the first volume of the trilogy – The Immortals of Meluha until it was finally published in 2010 and it went on to become a huge success. It sold more than 125,000 copies and it became one of the best-selling novels of 2010.
Amish Tripathi had initially wanted to write a book on philosophy; however he changed course and turned to mythology. He is an aficionado on history, philosophy and mythology. Literary stalwarts such as Shashi Tharoor, Anil Dharker and Rashmi Bansal have praised his writing style which is reflective of a ‘compelling narrative style’.
Amish Tripathi was born in 1974 and studied at the Cathedral & John Cannon School and St Xavier’s College in Mumbai. He studied at the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. He lives in Mumbai with his wife, Preeti and son, Neel. He has worked in the financial services industry. He is currently working on the third volume of the trilogy – The Oath of the Vayuputras. It is scheduled for release at the end of 2012.
Further, adding to the accolades, The Immortals of Meluha will be made into a film by Karan Johar and the grapevine says that Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra will star in the film. The second volume – The Secret of the Nagas will be launched on August 12, 2012. The Hindi version of the Immortals of Meluha has also come out; it is titled Meluha Ke Mritunjay.
The Power Of Joint Venture Marketing And Strategic Alliances
Joint Venture's and Strategic Alliances, what they are and how they can help you, to who's using them to succeed – and yes even how I made $ 88,000 in 60 days.
Joint Ventures have changed the way we do business just as the Internet has changed the way we find customers and deliver our goods, services and information. Together they make an incredible and extremely powerful ally.
I've worked behind-the-scenes with many multi-millionaire internet entrepreneurs and info-preneurs and, quickly realized that most people do not fully understand the full potential of joint ventures or even how to set them up.
So let's change all that!
Overall, think of Joint Ventures in the form of this picture. Joint Ventures can bring customers from around the world directly into the palm of your hand.
So, what exactly is a Joint Venture?
Forbes Magazine wrote : "Good-bye mergers and acquisitions. In a global market tied together by the Internet, corporate partnerships and alliances are providing a more productive way to keep companies growing.
JV's may be the most powerful trend in the history of business in the America's and fast becoming world-wide, followed by Asia Pacific region (China), then Europe (3rd) and then Japan and Africa – according to data collected by Thomson Financial.
A Joint Venture or "JV" can simply be two people (or companies) working together for a specific purpose. The purpose may vary; one time can it be to promote you, then the next time to promote your partner, or both at once. Other purposes could be: to make money; to gain exposure; to enter a new territory or to market with the help of someone who has solid ground in that market; another is to add a piece of technology to your product without re-inventing the wheel, etc.
It is an arrangement where businesses come together to share knowledge, resources, target and / or geographic markets, and profits. Joint ventures can take on various forms.
Companies can come together to form a Joint Venture that becomes its own entity with ownership rights and shares. Typically this happens in BIG Business, or multi-national companies, where the term "Joint Ventures" typically refers to a merger of 2 companies into a new legal entity.
OR what is most common (and often the preliminary to anything larger) they form more casual JV agreements where they launch a special one-time promotion or share resources to individually increase market reach and profits.
Joint Ventures are a phenomenon in the business community – big biz and small. It's really powerful for entrepreneurs as it can introduce you to new targeted customers in a very fast and effective way – particularly if you do not have a huge advertising budget or none at all.
In the Internet marketing world and small or medium sized offline businesses, many people use Joint Ventures as a marketing technique where they find partners that offer different (yet complementary) products or services, and who share the same or similar target markets. They create an informal arrangement together where they work together to expand their customer reach and advertise and promote with ZERO out of pocket expense.
For example they could "borrow" each other's company's customer list by promoting each other and pay a commission on any leads that turn into new customers for the JV Marketing Partner – this way there are no advertising expenses or up-front costs. While this is the most common way to "JV", there are also many others and we encourage you to discover them within our club.
Business owners are discovering that by working together everyone wins, you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours. That's how JV's work. Do not compete – Co-operate and Partner.
Is a Joint Venture the same as Affiliate Marketing?
"Affiliate Marketing" is another term closely associated with Joint Ventures. This is a form of joint venture where one person, known as the affiliate can be the go-between for the person who has a product or service to sell, and the customer wanting to purchase it. Affiliates earn a percentage or "affiliate commission" on each sale. Affiliates can range from the average entrepreneur or individual who personally recommends a product or service to their customers that they do not typically carry, all the way to multi national companies. An example of this is the bridal shop that recommends a particular tuxedo shop or dry cleaner. The customer is happy for the recommendation, and the bridal shop owner is happy as they may receive a commission or referral fee from the customers purchase. The dry cleaner or tuxedo shop is happy as they receive new paying customers.
In the last 10 years or even less, there have been virtual affiliates or "super affiliates" who have built their own home businesses, simply by finding great products and services and then matching them up with customers who want them. Some super affiliates are so good at it and make their joint venture partner so happy by selling the product or service that they may receive 25% – 50% commission on some items. In fact, some business owners have started offering 75% or higher commissions to super affiliates on small "lead generating" products. They do not mind large commission fees as they know that their new customers will buy other products which they can sell directly and make 100% of the profits.
Is a Joint Venture the same as a Strategic Alliance?
Strategic Alliances happened in large corporations as well. Typically a "Strategic Alliance" is an arrangement made between 2 or more companies where no legal entity or new company structure is formed. Instead they simply build a relationship with other companies, trades people and / or entrepreneurs where both agree to offer cross promotional opportunities. They recommend each other services and can often split advertising costs by sharing direct mail-outs.
Another form of Strategic Alliance is actually telling customers that they have formed an "alliance" with sister companies and therefore the customers will receive special treatment or discounts from other participating companies.
How can Joint Ventures help me?
Think of Joint Ventures or JV's as bringing you closer to your customer (almost directly) through the channel of another business, where you each create a win / win situation. The benefit of this, besides the obvious cost savings of fewer sales people and high advertising costs, is that when both partners win, you both want to keep the partnership going and you will grow together in both profits and relationships.
Joint Ventures can be used to increase your publicity and put you in front of your target market. They can also be used to launch a new product or service directly to your target market (with zero cost fees) through other people's list (s). You can use Joint Ventures to co-create products, books, seminars or communities with.
Let's quickly go through some of the fun and profitable types of Joint Ventures you can do and how they can help you. In fact, there are over 20, that we will reveal to you in the new privatejvclub.com, but below are just a few that you can do:
Agree to cross promote for zero or some commission.
Find places to advertise on member's websites, newsletters, email campaigns etc.
Offer an affiliate program for constant referrals.
Find people to co-create new products with.
Locate internet radio shows to be interviewed on.
Find other experts (members) you could interview on your teleclasses, podcasts or websites to gain publicity, content and leads.
Find other experts (members) you could interview on your to create a CD product to sell with their permission.
Offer a lead generating product to members to use for incentive marketing (free bonus when people buy their product). Example: free 7 day e-course or e-book or report.
Offer a lead generating product to members to use for generating traffic to their booth at trade shows & expos (free bonus when stop by booth). Example autographed book.
Look for entrepreneurs who can endorse your product or give you a testimonial for your product or write forward in your book.
Research your product, ask for critique / feedback on products, ideas, services etc.
Trade Links exchange to increase traffic to your website.
Who uses Joint Ventures in their Marketing Strategy to grow their Business?
Ok, the quick answer is probably every major business large or small that is successful in generating a lot of income is using Joint Ventures.
But let's look at a few examples (the list is simply too long to list them all):
Just a sample of the many big businesses: WAL- MART, Home Depot, Starbucks, Airlines, ING Direct – The Amsterdam-based global financial services group.
Many marketers and entrepreneurs use Joint Ventures to get their products out to the masses by quickly asking partners to participate in a product launch, or getting their own book to a best-seller status, or even to gain leads for their own customer base by asking other speakers or experts to participate as a live or 'virtual' speaker. The JV Partner sends out a promotion about the event, both parties collect leads, and if any one of those leads buys a product, both parties share in the revenue.
I have participated in this type of joint venture myself. I simply asked 2 companies to let their customers know about my product and sold close to $ 88,000 of product in less than 60 days. Of course, I offered them a thank you commission. So both parties benefited. But this promotion cost together partner any extra expense to put on, so if no-one bought my product at all – either myself nor my joint venture marketing partner would have lost anything.
Speakers / Authors: Drew Miles, Robin Elliott (dollarmakers.com), Cynthia Kersey, T. Harv Eker, Wendy Robbins, Mark Victor Hanson & Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul Founders), Robert Allen (Nothing Down, Multiple Streams of Income) … the list goes on.John Assaraf, a best-selling author of The Street Kid's Guide to Having It All and contributing expert on The Secret (movie), used joint venture strategies to help propel his book to the Best- Sellers list. AJ Brown of (TradingTrainer.com) promoted someone else's program and earned over $ 4500 in affiliate fees. Joel Christopher (www.masterlistbuilder.com) has been known to say his first JV project generated $ 33,000 in sales over 17 hours.
Internet Marketers / Experts: Alex Mandossian, Matt Bacak, Tom Antion, Yanik Silver, Joel Christopher, Lisa Cherney, Armand Morin … and countless others.
Almost every Author: Just open up a book jacket. Do you see testimonials? Endorsements? Many people trade their endorsements for free advertising in the book. Their endorsement, name and website URL appears on the book jacket or website. Both parties gain recognition, but also credibility through simple association. These are all benefits that cost regardless party any money – no risk, no money and all reward. This is a form of Joint Venture.
Or have you seen chapters written by other contributing authors? Again, the person contributing gets more widely known and more publicity. In fact multiply that by 100 if the book they contributed to becomes a best-seller. This is a form of Joint Venture.
PERHAPS THE GREATEST NEWS:
The person doing it the least but yet could benefit the most is … YOU!
Small Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Service Professionals … from the handyman, mortgage brokers, accountants, financial planners, investment advisors, caterers, stylists, coaches, counselors, doctors, healers, naturopaths, to lawyers – the list goes on and on.
The fact is, if you're not using JV's today or within the next 30 days – you are throwing away massive income and many lost sales.

IPTV Allows Targeted Marketing
Source by Alex F Pop
This is a joyous time for both consumers and broadcasters. If you are an IPTV, OTT, or Radio Network Broadcaster, Internet Protocol TV allows you to send content that better targets your key demographic. We’ve come a long way since cable television appealed only to mass markets. In the beginning, the amount of channels available to viewers could be counted on one hand. Now the choices, including online content streaming services, number in the millions.
Not every consumer is the same, yet traditional cable companies seem to be treating them as homogeneous groups because the old formula worked so well. Before the proliferation of the internet, everyone was watching the same thing. A book, for example, could stay on the best-seller list for months. A movie blockbuster could be the most watched for a whole season. Now, in 2016, you’re lucky if a book or movie gets just two weeks in the primetime spotlight. Content is continually being pushed out to meet the needs of the thousands of tribes and niche markets.
As a result, the content has diverged in a multitude of directions. As a consumer, there are millions of channels of information available to you, and you can select the ones you want. IPTV allows you to do this; you are no longer forced to watch entertainment with broad mass appeal and little interest to you.
As a broadcaster, the old formula of appealing to the masses does not work anymore. You’ll typically find in the modern middle-class household that each member of the family is consuming entertainment on their own device. That is, the mother, father, and teen daughter are each watching something different, all at the same time. The mother is not interested in the teen drama of the daughter, nor is the daughter enthralled by the documentary that the father watches. In trying to be all things to all people, traditional broadcasters have failed. “The only alternative then, is to be something important to a few people,” writes Seth Godin, author of Tribes. (Source: http://www.amazon.com/Tribes-We-Need-You-Lead/dp/1491514736).
The fringes of society have now become the mass. “We don’t care so much about everyone; we care about us – where us is our people, our tribe, our interest group – not the anonymous masses,” says Godin. (Source: http://www.amazon.com/Are-All-Weird-Seth-Godin/dp/1936719223).
This is not just good news for consumers, but for advertisers as well. More diversity and variety allows for more targeted advertising; IPTV allows broadcasters to better segment their audience, just like big data allows for finer levels of granularity. This allows IPTV, OTT, and radio network broadcasters to target advertisements that are relevant to a particular show’s niche and demographic.
In 2016, consumers have choices. “An explosion of wealth, media choices, and shopping choices has led to a wealth of choices,” says Godin. IPTV providers need to adapt in order to survive. The way to do this is by appealing to the people that are most interested in the given channel, time slot, or show. As traditional broadcasting slowly but surely loses popularity to video on demand and watch-as-you-go entertainment new niches will spring up.
Poetry in the Modern World
In the hearts of those who love poetry you can find quotes from great poets through history. There was a time the only place for poet lovers to converge were in coffee shops and one mic nights in dark quiet cafes. How do we share our poetry in the world today? There is a great world of poetry to be found in the social reaches of the internet. Search online and you will find there is a market for everything and each market is stimulating in its own way. These markets are certain to poetry, a market that can be under represented in other places.
On the New York Times Best Seller list we find fiction and nonfiction books categorized in what feels like endless possibilities. However, the poetry best seller list is hard to find. One thing we can see is that not many poetry books, written by new authors, are purchased as much as other fiction in America. The question then becomes how do we know that people love poetry? That is where those social corners of the internet come in handy. There will always be exceptions in becoming a best-selling poet, but most people have found that releasing their poetry in the form of blogs is the best outlet. There are scores of writers who meet together online and share their craft. This free market of poetry has allowed not only poems, but those who love to read poetry to find a community. There are different communities that offer different things to the world of poetry. There are sites that share others poetry, organize poetry communities, and some personal blogs. There are even sites that can tell you the best poetry sites to discover.
Since we poets no longer stand in taverns sharing epic news stories in the form of poetry. We go online and lay it out for the world to see and to do with as they please. Often poets do this with little or no recognition, praise or compensation. The brave will create blogs that put their hearts out on their sleeves and self-publish wonderful works of art. The blog has become in its own way a book publication for many. Why not start your own blog today? I have found I have no reason to wait any longer.
To get started try these three steps:
1. Pick a blog site that will represent you.
There are many sites that you can start with today. Each will be different based on your level of skill Do not worry if you are not an expert coder or internet guru.
2. Choose a theme.
Is your poetry all about love? Choose images and a name that reflect that. Even if your poetry has many different themes find a way to express that in the blog title.
3. Put your poetry out there.
Do not worry if its perfect get the poem out there. Once the first poem is shared then the next will be easier. You'll find yourself turning your blog into a book in no time.
Andrew Gross – The Blue Zone Books
Ghost writing is a very new concept in the literary world. Andrew Gross is basically an American author who has gained wide popularity as a ghost writer. He began his literary career by co-authoring various books with James Patterson.
However he also has presented some of the beautiful specimens of literary work like The Blue Zone. The Blue Zone, his first novel published in April 14, 2007 has brought him name and fame. It also occupied a place among the best seller list of the New York Times. The most marvellous creation of Andrew Gross which he created from the story outlines of James Patterson include, The Jester (2003), The Lifeguard (2005), Judge & Jury (2006), 2nd Chance and 3rd Degree.
Born in 1952, Andrew Gross spent the early years of life at Los Angles. He was also fascinated about music. That is why he started learning piano at the age of 5, and later he continued his music studies at the reputed Crossroads school, Manhattan School of Music and USC.
As a composer too, he showed signs of a promising future. He started composing at the age of 25. Some of his magnificent works include the "Bio-Dome," "The King of Queens," "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny," "The Good Girl," and the "8 Heads in a Duffel Bag. "
Andrew was also well known for mingling classical music with his unique style. He created some of the mind-blowing pieces by fusing orchestra and techno music. This new music trend is evident in "Overnight Delivery," of Jason Bloom. In Andrews own words "I wanted to score more traditionally for orchestra, so I combined everything from techno, rock, orchestra, Indian melodies and female vocals from Rachel and Petra Haden, to create a very exciting and unique sound."
Andrew Gross' TV series, "King of Queens," was a great hit among the masses. Apart from writing for TV series he also wrote main titles for various other documentaries and films, such as "The Good Girl," "The Mummy Who Would Be King," and "Forfeit". Andrew often loved using unusual instruments while composing; he used a unique percussion called Mazdaphone which was created by Steve Forman.
Interview With Dawson Church, Author of "The Genie in Your Genes"

Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (4/07)
Today, Tyler R. Tichelaar of Reader Views is interviewing Dawson Church, author of “The Genie in Your Genes.”
Dawson Church is the author and editor of many books. He has collaborated with such best-selling authors, as Robert Kiyosaki (“Rich Dad, Poor Dad”), Deepak Chopra, John Gray (“Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”), and Wally “Famous” Amos. He is the founder of the Soul Medicine Institute (www.SoulMedicineInstitute.org) which researches and teaches emerging psychological and medical techniques that can yield fast and radical cures. His new book, “The Genie in Your Genes” pioneers the practical use of Epigenetics, (control of genes from outside the cell), explaining the remarkable self-healing mechanisms now emerging from this science. It has been hailed as a brilliant breakthrough by leading scientists, and hit several best-seller lists within days of its release.
Tyler: Thank you for joining me today, Dawson. To begin, could you tell us a little about your background and how you became interested in the mind’s ability to influence the body’s health?
Dawson: My interest in the topic really began while I was freelancing as a book editor in New York in the mid-80s, when I became intrigued by what was then the emerging new paradigm of alternative medicine. I also had the good fortune to witness very rapid, almost miraculous cures with energy medicine in cases where conventional medicine had failed. I edited one of the first books on holistic healthcare, “The Heart of the Healer,” and eventually got a doctorate in Integrative Healthcare at Holos University under the mentorship of distinguished neurosurgeon Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., founder of the American Holistic Medical Association. We coauthored a book called “SoulMedicine” (www.SoulMedicine.net) which looks at the history of miraculous cures from prehistory onward, lays out the scientific basis for healing, and also charts a course for the future of healthcare.
Tyler: Would you explain to us a little more what you mean by energy medicine and an example of how it is used and how it differs from conventional medicine?
Dawson: Energy medicine and energy psychology work at the level of the body’s energy systems, electrical, magnetic, and quantum, to affect your cells and organs. An example of an electrical energy device is a pacemaker, and of a magnetic one is an MRI, which stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. These are energy devices used in conventional medicine. However, it turns out that our cells are affected by very small electrical charges too, and these can be generated without technology, by techniques such as healing touch, massage, and the stimulation of acupressure points by tapping or rubbing them. While the amounts of energy involved are tiny, they can have big effects, since it turns out that emotional trauma is stored in our organs as an electrical charge, and that charge can be nudged in the direction of health by energy psychology techniques.
Tyler: Dawson, could you provide our readers with an easy to understand definition of epigenetics?
Dawson: Epi means “above,” as in control above the level of the gene. Epigenetics looks at the various outside influences that affect the ways that our different genes turn on or off, also called expressing. The focus of epigenetic medicine is to move beyond the limited notion that DNA is the key to our experience of health or disease, and to look at the interventions that we can make epigenetically to affect our health.
Tyler: Would you share a success story with us of someone who has experienced healing through the use of energy healing?
Dawson: There is a man named Hank Hadley who is only too happy to have his story shared publicly. At the age of 10, Hank fell 25′ down a hay chute onto a concrete pad, landing on his tailbone. Multiple accidents over the years added to the challenges and pain. He has been through 16 major operations, for his back, neck, and even cancer. He has so much metal in his body that he sets off radar detectors. In addition to suffering multiple major emotional traumas, several years ago Hank was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
As the result of all this, over the years, Hank has taken just about every prescription drug on the market for pain, (including morphine) and even became addicted to some. The addictions were severe enough that he was forced to enter treatment centers. On occasion he could walk from his home to the mailbox and back without crutches. He couldn’t ride in a vehicle for more than 10 miles without excruciating pain and discomfort.
Today Hank is off all pain medication. All Multiple Sclerosis symptoms, arthritis and scar tissue pain have vanished, and pain is rarely an issue. When he began using Energy Psychology, specifically the technique called Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT, his pain levels (on a 0-10 scale) were generally between 8 and 9 on a daily basis. He showed great dedication to EFT, and performed the EFT routine several times a day.
His pain is now minimal, and after a recent session he did jumping jacks for a video crew. After 24 years on disability, Hank now works full-time at physically demanding job. He continues to use EFT frequently, as new challenges arise in his life. For a full account and updates see: http://www.emofree.com/multiple-sclerosis/multiple-sclerosis-persistent-tapper.htm
Tyler: That’s a wonderful example. Just what does the EFT routine include? I understand Hank “taps” frequently. Can you explain what tapping is?
Dawson: Acupressure and acupuncture make use of a system of tiny electrical and cellular channels inside our bodies. The electrical resistance at the center of an acupressure point has been measured at about 1/2000th of the resistance of the surrounding skin. When we tap on these points, rub them, or use any kind of friction, we generate a kind of electricity called piezoelectricity. It runs through these low-resistance points to the places in our bodies where trauma is stored, and people usually feel an immediate and visceral release of that tension. Used in a protocol like EFT which includes affirmations and a structured round of tapping, they are extremely powerful. Another simple but effective technique from energy psychology is TAT, or the Tapas Acupressure Technique. These techniques can reduce the levels of stress hormones like cortisol in our bloodstream, and boost the level of DHEA, one of the main cell repair and anti-aging hormones. So as you reduce your stress through TAT, EFT or similar techniques, you produce a cascade of positive genetic and biochemical changes in your body. There are links to all these therapies and others on the nonprofit Soul Medicine Institute web site (www.SoulMedicineInstitute.org).
Tyler: Dawson, recently, the film and book “The Secret” has received a lot of attention. Are you familiar with the book, and how do you feel “The Genie in Your Genes” is similar or differs from its philosophy?
Dawson: “The Genie in Your Genes” describes concrete physiological processes that are biologically and medically verifiable. “The Secret” took a more metaphysical and inspirational approach. “The Secret” states that our thoughts produce concrete manifestations, and while this is generally true, the biological specifics are a good deal more subtle. Some intentions have been shown to produce strong biological effects, while others have been shown experimentally to produce no biological effects at all.
Tyler: Would you encourage readers interested in “The Secret” to read “The Genie in Your Genes”? Could we say your book is a more advanced version of “The Secret” that brings out the nuts and bolts of healing ourselves through thought?
Dawson: “The Genie in Your Genes” is based on sound and credible science. It quotes some 300 studies, mostly from mainstream medical journals like the “Journal of the American Medical Association,” the “American Heart Journal,” and similar publications. “The Secret” is a series of metaphysical propositions, while “The Genie in Your Genes” deals in hard biological facts. However, it turns out that those metaphysical propositions can “land” powerfully in our bodies, producing measurable biological changes, especially in our stress response, which affects every cell and organ in our bodies.
Tyler: Obviously, it sounds like “The Genie in Your Genes” has a spiritual aspect to it, and I know you have had spiritual teachers such as the Dalai Lama and Deepak Chopra in your books. However, your background is very scientific. Do you believe the fields of science and spirituality are beginning to align themselves more closely?
Dawson: Spiritual teachings have for centuries affirmed the value of disciplined thinking and rigorous spiritual practice. Now, studies of longevity and immunity are showing that these practices produce measurable biological improvements. Science is now showing the precise mechanisms that come into play as a result of spiritual practice. The idea that the two were ever separate was an illusion that is being rectified as science advances.
Tyler: As science advances, where do you think a greater understanding of epigenetics and the teachings in “The Genie in Your Genes” will bring humanity and all life on earth?
Dawson: Better health. Greater longevity. Less daily stress. More joy. Fewer autoimmune diseases. Longer health span. Better relationships with parents, children and spouses, as we no longer act out our emotional traumas. In the big picture, it will bring fewer conflicts between tribes and nations, as people no longer project the emotional wounds of their shadow side out onto “the other.” By healing ourselves, we become agents for healing our communities.
Tyler: Where can readers go to get more information about “The Genie in Your Genes” or to purchase the book?
Dawson: Readers can visit http://www.GenieBestseller.com for more information about the book. They can purchase it in stores, such as Borders, Barnes & Noble, or online.
Tyler: Thank you so much for joining us today, Dawson. Do you have any last comments you would like to give our readers?
Dawson:I have been looking at healers and healing, and writing about their work, for over two decades. I have never before seen any therapies with the potential of energy psychology and energy medicine. You can literally live a stress-free life, with huge implications for your health and wellbeing. If you’re used to the usual long cycle of emotional trauma and physical pain, as most health care workers are, it is astounding to see cases like Hank Hadley’s. If we love ourselves enough to release our stresses every moment they arise, we create a better life for ourselves, and everyone around us. I would urge anyone in pain, whether emotional or physical, to grab these simple techniques with both hands, and see just how much healing can be accomplished safely and non-invasively with their beliefs, energy systems, and other epigenetic interventions. The chances are good that you will feel much better than you ever believed possible!
"Of Course I Love You! Till I Find Someone Better" by Durjoy Datta and Maanvi Ahuja
A story set in the Indian Capital about an Engineering student Deb and his pathetic love life.
Debashish or Deb as he is called by all his friends has had a long list of girlfriends in the past years but his life changes when he meets Avantika. Deb is immature and always finding ways of getting in bed with his girlfriend and dumping them soon after. He is fat and ugly in his own definition. His college grades are slipping.
He meets Avantika, and falls madly in love at the first sight. Avantika is way too delicate and beautiful with a colourful past of drug and rehabilitation. But now Avantika follows a spiritual guru who helped her come clean after drugs and such. Deb manages to get barred from College Placements and ends up in his dad’s government company after completing his engineering. There he becomes friends with an office genius and helps him win over the love of his life, while Avantika has broken up with him and gone to Bangalore.
Will Deb get over his state of broken heart and hopelessness, will he get the love of his life back? Will he get himself to work hard and get a better job for himself?
Story is simply set and talks about today’s youth and the kind of problems they face. How confused they are when it comes to relationships and the matters of heart. The tone of the story is simple, day to day language and quite healthy paced, until Deb gets into the heart broken state and the story drags on for a while. There is nothing new, nothing exciting in the story, yet it is an easy and quick read. No matter whether you like it or not, chances are you would just keep reading and soon reach the end of the story.
My personal opinion isn’t too good about the book. It was simple read, day to day life story yet totally made up. One can at times relate to the story completely and other times one can feel that ahh it can only happen in fictional stories and no way in a real story. The reason for Deb’s breakup as given by Avantika is pathetic and unbelievable. The phase Deb gets into after that is quite real but drags on and on and hence gets boring for a reader instead of touching the heart.
This book has been on bestseller list for quite a while, which was quite surprising, given that there is no uniqueness, or freshness in the story or narration.
A Guide to Black Library Book Formats
Source by Sebastian Hubert Gehart
Black Library is a company by Games Workshop Limited (GW). It exclusively publishes fiction set in and on the fictional universes of GW's renamed tabletop mini games: Warhammer Fantasy and its science-fiction cousin Warhammer 40.000. These mini games are very popular with teenagers and young adults, especially in the UK and the USA.
Since its narrow focus, Black Library has grown from humble beginnings in 1997 into a highly prolific publisher. As of 2013, it publishes between 5 and 10 new, original novels, short-story anthologies or audio-dramas each month. Its catalog includes a many hit novels, many of which topped the New York Times bestseller lists for weeks.
As this publishing company grew successful, its catalog of publications grew ever more extensive. The following provides a guide on the main formats offered by Black Library. It also provides a short discussion on some of the alternative formats, including the Horus Heresy audio dramas and the upcoming graphic novels.
In summary, all newer formats consistently indicate an explicit and decent efforts by Black Library to move into a more up-market, premium segment with their products.
1. The mass-paperback format
Without a doubt, Black Library built its success on inexpensive pulp novels in a budget paperback format. Since the company's found 15 years ago, these well-thumbed 10-dollar voluminous detailing the heroics of medieval Knights or trials of far future Space Marines have become an ever-present mainstay among fans of the Warhammer and Warhammer 40.000 universes.
There are literally several hundred full-fledged novels, as well as a great range of short-story anthologies available in this format. Today, the public image of Black Library is closely linked to these books.
2. The hard-cover novellas
More recently, Black Library added a selection of shorter novellas in a premium hard-back format to its catalog. Typically these stories are 120 to 130 pages long, bound in a glossy hard-cover format without dust-jacket. Typically, they come with interior art or a map in the center of the book.
Originally, this smaller and, relatively, more expensive format was used to publish stories tying directly to specific product releases, such as the Dark Vengeance Novella published to go with the boxed set of miniatures of the same name. This set the novella apart from the regular novels, which tie into the fictional setting on a broader level, but not to any specific product released for the game.
The format has since been used more liberally.
3. The Black Library Premium Hard-covers
A big step by Black Library to upgrade their products (and its company image) from budget pulp-novels to a more upmarket publishing enterprise was the introduction of premium, or collectors, hard-cover version for their novels in mid-2012.
These novels resemble hard-cover books published by more mainstream publishers of fiction. They are larger in length and width than both the soft-cover and the novella publications, bound in a hard carton-cover, wrapped with a dust-jacket featuring the cover art.
These new collectors' hard-cover novels were introduced first in Black Library's most successful, New York Times bestselling Horus Heresy series of novels. This multi-author exploration of the fictional history of Games Workshop's dystopian sci-fi gaming universe has been available since 2006.
2012, Black Library started re-releasing older titles of the Horus Heresy series for Warhammer 40.000, such as the James Swallow Horus Heresy Novel The Flight of the Eisenstein , in this premium format. It also now publishes all new novels to this series in the premium format first, with the soft-cover version usually usually delayed by several months.
It should be noted that these premium hard-covers, unlike their soft-cover counterparts, are not available through retailers or e-commerce sites such as Amazon.
Summary
Overall, the variety of new products from Black Library tell the story of a new emphasis in branding, marketing and selling the fictional works that go with the Warhammer and Warhammer 40.000 universes as premium products.
However, given that the "budget-formats", which were and continue to be the foundation of their success, remain in print and in production, this trend only provides variety to the customer. And judging by the seeming success of the new formats, many of them crave their Warhammer and Warhammer 40K fiction in a premium format.
