Covet Cover Reveals

Melissa Bourbon Ramirez
Down-on-her-luck witch Storie Bell never thought the biggest threat to her future would be Reid Malone, the very man she’d run from years before. After striking it rich in Texas shale, he’s back in town, and he seems hell-bent on getting in the way of her bookstore’s grand opening. A witch trying to blend in in a small southern town is hard enough, but now he’s seriously testing her strict No Kissing Mortal Men policy. But even witches don’t have a spell for that.
Reid knows there’s much more to Storie than meets the eye. But right now he has only one mission: to infiltrate her shop so he can snatch the elusive secret ingredient to his father’s million-dollar moonshine recipe. Once he does, he can go back to the city and get out of his small hometown, a place in which he has no future.
But as the days go by, he can’t help falling for Storie in every way…and every encounter brings him closer to finding out what happens when you try to deceive a witch.

Kristin Miller

When Drake’s twin brother senses that Drake has found his match—and now inherits their father’s billion dollar estate—he hatches a plan to take Emelia out. Drake vows to protect her at all costs, but he might have to pay with his own life.

Jenna Bennett
Being the Greek god of love doesn’t mean you believe--or want--anything to do with that sappy emotion. Sure, Eros runs his matchmaking business, Made in Heaven, but finding his own love has never been part of the equation. When he spots the sweet baker who works across the street, he vows to match her with someone else before she stirs his sullen heart.
Annie Landon has given up on finding Mr. Right. What she needs is Mr. Right Here, Right Now, and this so-called “Greek God” she’s heard is on the rebound sounds like the perfect kind of distraction. But picking up the bitter workaholic is easier said than done…especially when he seems unreasonably determined to match her with someone else.
Can a woman looking for love—and the matchmaking god who wants her to find it with someone who isn’t him—have a shot at a happy ending? May the best god—or mortal—win.

Abby Niles
Is the gift of eternal love a blessing or a curse?
After years of counseling grieving shifters, psychiatrist and half-shifter, Dr. Jaylin Avgar has become jaded on shifter mating. She wants to marry a human and forget about the love for eternity crap. Then she meets Aidan O’Connell, an infuriatingly laid back shifter who represents everything she doesn’t want. Yet, the more he pursues her, the more she craves a future with him. Only one thing stands in her way: death. Can she overcome her fear of losing Aidan to the one guarantee in life?
Millionaire consultant, Aidan O’Connell knows he’ll one day meet a woman who’ll awaken an unrelenting mating instinct. Unfortunately, that woman is Jaylin, who has no qualms about telling him that he and his so-called eternity can shove it. When she pushes him away, he takes a drastic step so she can no longer escape. The close proximity throws the instinct into overdrive. Can he control the need engrained in him until he’s certain she will reciprocate the bond, or will a moment of weakness doom him to hell on earth?

The Demon's Song
Kendra Leigh Castle
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. At least, that's how it seems to Sofia Rivera when her attempt to help a friend ends in a blood-soaked confrontation with creatures that aren't even supposed to exist. With a group of rogue vampires determined not to leave a single witness to their violence hot on her heels, Sofia finds herself saddled with an immortal bodyguard—Phenex, the fallen Angel of Song.
While the vampire king roots out the corruption threatening to take down his underworld kingdom, Sofia will have to deal with a fallen angel whose dark beauty is often at odds with his ornery nature. Slowly, Sofia and Phenex give in to the strange attraction neither can deny. And as the darkness closes in around them, Phenex begins to wonder whether even the wickedest Fallen might find his own happy ending...and his heart.

Interview and Giveaway with Rosalind Scarlett

I still ask myself that question! Since I was a young adolescent, I have been drawn to the dark allure of vampires and other things in the supernatural genre. Perhaps it is a manner of escapism from the monotony of everyday life. Perhaps it is the inner perception that there has to be more out there than what we see or acknowledge on the surface of things. I am a firm believer in a vast array of other realms and the supernatural, and I have to say I believe that vampires could exist. Then again, who can deny the dark allure of the sexy vampire— the ultimate bad boy— who could just as easily sip away a woman’s life as make passionate love to her! And then, they can be so emotional, to me, oft times more emotionally expressive than most deadened human males who are just too busy sitting around drinking beer and watching the football game on TV to barely even notice when their woman is trying to get their attention. But a vampire, he will notice her even when she doesn’t think much of herself and make her feel she is the most beautiful thing in existence, and perhaps even became passionately obsessed with her!
What inspired you to write this book?
My original inspiration came from spending some time actively researching my Irish family ancestry a couple years ago, which just led to more and more curiosity and looking at more things about the area and culture. While my family comes from County Galway rather than Clare, still it is along the same rugged west coast of Ireland that my ancestors and my main character derive. I would say, all in all, she and I have many similarities. All my life I had wanted to write a novel and with my fascination with vampires, emotional and human behavior, sexuality and the darker side of humanity, it just seemed the natural things which to revolve a story. The series just developed organically, each idea branching into others until it became the foundation for a series. I have some great plans for the rest and it is still and always will be developing— likely even after I have all the books out and published. Then I suppose I will just have to find another place to put those belated ideas.
Please tell us about your latest release.
The story of Cailín was derived from many experiences quite personal to me, and then gave them a paranormal twist. I combined my love for my ancestral Ireland with my affinity for music, horses, love itself, and vampires. While writing Cailín, I poured everything of myself into it, and at the end of each writing day, I would be so drained, a total void, it sucked me dry— hmm, not unlike a vampire. . . I took an everyday young girl who doesn’t think herself anything special and heaved her into a world which contradicts everything she prided herself to be. Aislinn is forced to struggle to adapt and feel her way through her new uninvited life. She makes a lot of mistakes and is quite naïve, but she grows stronger with each new crisis she encounters, though she does not believe herself to be strong. Aislinn has so much she is not aware of, and will have to endure rather a lot before she discovers what makes her unique and just what her purpose is.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
Creating characters names is one of my favorite things to do in writing! Sometimes I have them all figured out before I even start writing, although on one of my stories so far (Twilight Garden Series due out in 2014), I have yet to even name my main faerie character. I am just waiting for the right one to come along because it has to be unique as she. Obviously, the character’s name should reflect their personality or the feel for them I am endeavouring to portray. Also, I always match up their name to where they are from and look up popular names for the specific time period of the story. Aislinn, my main character’s name in Cailín, is not only a popular old Celtic name, it is derived from the Gaelic word, aisling, meaning visions. This is significant to her because having foretelling visions is her driving special attribute throughout the entirety of this series.
Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I would have to say my character development involves a little of both, really. I mean, one cannot possibly plan out every facet of a character. There are so many things which evolve on their own organically; there are even entire characters which appear when I had no idea they were even coming to join in, but suddenly, here they are! It is kind of funny when that happens, the moments where the story takes me by the hand, and I realize I am nothing more than a vehicle to transcribe it! But I digress; typically I do jot down all the attributes I have in mind for the character I want to create in the beginning. Still, as with anything, that sometimes changes to fit everything else in the story.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
My favorite scene has to be the one between Aislinn and Donovan when they get caught in a sudden rainstorm while out on a trek in the rugged Connemara countryside along the coast. They find shelter in a rock overhang of a little cove. They end up stuck there for the duration of the night and things between them— which has been completely innocent up until this point— get rather heated. It was by far one of my favorite scenes to write, and my husband’s favorite to read over!
Do any of your characters have characteristics similar to yourself in them and what are they?
Yes. Aislinn, the main character in the series is basically derived from me on several levels. All of her characteristics are either something I now possess, once possessed or aspire to possess. Other than the obvious shared hair color and Irish background, I once was naïve as she, yet also headstrong, and I only wish I could have been as bold as she is. I also share her tendency to analyze things and wallow in emotions, experiencing the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
Oh yeah, you bet! The best way I have found to deal with it is to just step away from it for a while— and that may mean an hour or a few weeks— whatever it takes. I take a walk, a bath, work on something else, go on a hike or bike ride. But trying to sit through it and force it usually makes it worse and I never feel like it resulted in my best writing. And once I am away from it, ideas start to flow, sentences, dialogue, and suddenly I can’t get back to my computer fast enough to plug it all in!
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
Yes I do, as a matter of a fact! When I am lucky enough to be alone, I burn some essential oils and turn on some music on Pandora to put me or keep me in the mood for the scene I am currently working on. I thrive on creating an atmosphere for myself and getting all settled in just so.
What can readers expect next from you?
Soeis, Book II of the Anam Céile Chronicles will be released in July. I also am working on Rhapsody, the first book in my new series, Sanctum of Souls, about sexy male angels and the women who tempt them.
Where can readers find you on the web?
They can visit my website, www.RosalindScarlett.com; my blog, RosalindScarlett.blogspot.com/ or connect with me on Facebook www.facebook.com/rosalindscarlettauthor; Twitter @RosalindScarlet, and Goodreads.
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Sure thing! This is from Chapter 12 of Cailín. I do hope it tantalizes you!
Just then, Voljidaar turned his head slightly toward the door and called out something in a language I did not understand. Not a second later, a man and a woman donning nothing save fer their flowing, dark cloaks entered the chamber. Their eyes zoned in on me in a flash, staring into me with a look that I cannot begin to explain and had never witnessed before. It both frightened me and exhilarated me, and I had not the slightest idea why. Voljidaar simply waved his hand toward me and they began approaching me menacingly. Me eyes flared and I thought to scream, yet me throat seized so that not a sound materialized. ‘Twas as though I be frozen against me will as I sat there so vulnerable, feeling as would a cornered animal. As nearer to me they drew, me initial alarm ‘twas superseded by an intense intrigue of them, and I relaxed, permitting them to come closer, examining them. Even under the soft glow of the candlelight, I could view them adequately to distinguish their atypical characteristics. Their pale skin had an underlying shadow, their eyes were uncannily colourless— yet captivating somehow— and behind their pale lips as they pulled them back in a smile, they revealed their gleaming sharp teeth. Involuntarily I shivered. The male— although still pale— clearly be of a darker origin, hailing from somewhere exotic, as be evident in the almond shape of his colourless eyes. High cheekbones he had, a feature I had not before witnessed in a man. His black hair be longer than ever I had seen upon a man and extraordinarily beautiful, flowing over his shoulders and midway down his back. His sculptured physique ‘twas impeccable, that of a statue those would worship of a God. He seemed as would a warrior. His face appeared young, yet somehow did not correspond to the astuteness contained within, obviously being well beyond the years he appeared to have. The female, by contrast, be the fairest woman ever I had seen, her silky hair white as her skin, flowing down to her hips. So slight in stature she be that she appeared as though she were scarcely an adolescent, her face angelic and childlike. Her pert breasts appeared as though they were just embarking on their swell to ripening, and her nipples, too, were neutral in tone. Beneath her flat abdomen, there be but a scant patch of white fluff crowning her mound of flesh. The two of them together did compose a bizarre picture.Overpoweringly they gazed into me eyes— mesmerizing me— and instantly all traces of fear in me dissolved, leaving in its wake only desire. All I wanted, the only thing in the world that mattered in that moment, be to give meself to them, in every way imaginable. Whatever they wanted from me, I wanted them to take it, to take everything of me. I be begging them with me mind, with me body. Come and take me! I offer meself to you! Please take all of me! And I perceived they understood. But did I? Little did I understand, however, what they would take from me. Nevertheless, me mind belonged to me not any longer. They had totally possessed me and I would do anything fer them. Without a single thought, I had dropped the bed linens to which I had been so desperately clinging, along with any concerns of protecting meself.Gloriously, they realised me at last, reaching fer me with their hands, their eyes continuing to dominate me. The female flung the linens the rest of the way off of me as the male put his hands upon either side of me ribs and pulled me effortlessly to the edge of the bed to face them. On full display I be fer them, eliciting them to moan with appreciation. Their hands they be chilled as death as thoroughly they glided them over the contrasting warmth of me nude body, absorbing every millimetre of it, sending me into a slow frenzy. I squirmed as their hands rapidly slithered to areas of me body that I had so yearned to be touched by another.Whilst still roaming their hands over me, in unison, they both landed at me chest, each bringing their stunning face nearer to me breasts. I writhed at the contact of their oddly cool mouths upon the soft flesh of me breasts, heaving me tender upright nipples into their greedy mouths. Me desire be granted as they each suckled away upon them robustly, stimulating me, taking over me mind. They lingered as that fer several moments, as I moaned with more pleasure than ever I thought I had known. While the young female remained there nuzzling at me breast, the exotic male began to slowly move down me body, trailing kisses down me torso, upon the delicate skin of me belly, and down to me aching flesh below. How I craved to feel his mouth there! His tongue lighted upon it ever so momentarily, sending me into an ever maddening frenzy. It only left me frustrated, me flesh now throbbing, and in the very next moment his face had turned to the side to burrow into the softness of me thigh. He began nibbling lightly and then suddenly I felt something pierce into it. As he did, his eyes went black as night. Just as the woman from me nightmares! At the same time, the female had moved her mouth up along me neck, nuzzling at the base of me throat, biting into it at precisely the same moment as he. I gasped from the surprise, rather than from pain, and then promptly I cast out any inhibitions and received it agreeably. I did not recoil in the least when they sank their teeth into me flesh, instead all I felt be an indescribable euphoria, as me blood they summoned forth. And honoured I felt to surrender it to them. I could feel it rushing through me veins up me body into their needing mouths. Gradually I felt the buzzing that had been present diminishing, and yet the throbbing sensation it had affected in me tender flesh still remained unbearably perceptible. As they drank from me so insatiably, I writhed under their mouths, yet ‘twas in ecstasy rather than pain, wishing it to go on as that eternally. In that moment, I would have given them anything they wanted— had they started consuming me flesh until nothing of me remained, I would have been overjoyed fer the occasion to please them. Their hands, still roving all over me, progressively were heating until at last, they were as me skin. Within me the sensations were building slowly, exquisitely— eluding to the promise of the most rapturous of pleasures. Being lured into a euphoric dreamlike state I be, everything else around me fading away. I forgot where I be, me previous concerns, and who might be observing me in this act of total relinquishment of meself.

The Story Behind the Story- Creatures of Fire by JB Brooklin and a $25 Amazon GC Giveaway

The Story Behind the Story
As an avid reader of fantasy novels „Creatures of Fire“ is my first attempt at writing a fantasy novel myself. Reading fantasy lets me escape into different worlds, explore foreign characters and talents that are not common in our world, which is why I love this genre so much.
Ever since the idea formed in my head, I wanted to create a world of my own, so I began researching mysterious beings from fairy tales and myths. It didn’t take me long to discover fire demons and to be fascinated by them.
According to myth, fire demons come into our world to avenge murder. Focussed on their mission they are impartial, with a deep seated sense of honor and duty. While researching these creatures, Alexander, one of the main characters of “Creatures of Fire”, entered my thoughts. He began to tell his story: How he came into this world with the sole purpose of avenging murders. How he began to discover his love of ancient artifacts and art. How he led a life withdrawn from humans but also in the midst of their presence. Not much later Sariel joined him, telling how her parents were killed in an accident, how loneliness and sadness engulfed her ever since the tragedy.
But then she met Alexander.
What set out as a love interest developed into something different. Something far more dangerous and mysterious. Fate threw them into situations where they were forced to fight for their believes.
As happens so often, Alexander and Sariel told the story, not me. While writing the book I didn’t know what would happen next and how they would overcome the obstacles that were in their paths. And then they led me into the ancient, fascinating world of the demons – Dschinnanya. A place where nothing stays the same, where changes are the only constant and where no one can be trusted.
Writing this story was an adventure in itself and an experience I wouldn’t want to miss. Currently I am working on part 2 of the series, which promises to lead me and the reader further into the world of the demons and will feature more of the characters readers have come to love.

Book Marketing with Aoife Marie Sheridan

Marketing is by far one of the hardest things to do. So we will start easy.
What becomes a must:
Facebook Fan page
This allows all your fans to interact with you, on a regular basis. I personally find facebook a very effective tool. Fan's that love your work want to know what you’re up to, and what you have been doing.
Facebook also gives the option to pay for promotion - I did it recently just to see how effective it is. So I spent 16.00 euro on promoting an event and so far 140 have added themselves to my event and also have liked my fan page. Will this increase sales? I don't know. Will they really turn up to the event? That I don't know either, but my Book tour for Eden Forest starts 8th April 2013, so I will see then and update everyone.
Twitter - I am unsure if this is a great sales tool, it’s more like just getting the word out on what you’re doing. I have over 1,000 followers do they hang on my last word, hmmm no, they only thing I like about twitter is that your followers will re-tweet for you and that is what becomes effective. I would tweet about three times a day, not always but that is my objective. Tweets come in so fast yours will be buried under everyone else's. So just to make sure I have been heard I tweet three times a day about the exact same thing.
Website - This by far I find the most powerful tool. A good structured website. It's not enough just to set one up, but you must keep it updated and fresh.
Also to join Goodreads and enlist as an author. This brings your book into the spot light of countless readers. There are groups on Goodreads that will give tips and tricks for marketing also. I recently reviewed an author’s book, and was horrified to see it wasn't on Goodreads. I wouldn't mind it was outstanding. So I added it for her four people have added her book to their list, of books to read. It really shows that Goodreads, is affective, that's four more people that know about this author.
Blogging: The worst thing you could do is this - "Buy my book out now", I don't want to see that, and nobody does, I will just ignore this blog as it holds no interest for me. But what does - be creative and most of all have fun. For my own book I blog once a week about a fact. Example: my book is set in medieval times so therefore only candles where used. So i would blog a fact about how candles where made in medieval times. and then associate it back to my back at the end of the post. Every time I do this I get three new followers as opposed to screaming about my book. Also get visual Pinterest is a great place to start. Pin pictures that are associated with your story.
So checklist for a blog
Have at least two blogs (My opinion) as you can link them to all your accounts as in (facebook, twitter, Pinterest, Google + ect). Then post visually once a day and post a fact once a week. It doesn't block up people that follow you, and your pictures get their attention.
Another great way to spread the word about you and your book:
A Press release:
I use PRLOG its free and very effective. When I sent out my PR I got 1235 hits in less than five days. You can send up 5 per week, and once again it's FREE. Here is the link just encase anyone is interested.
http://www.prlog.org
If you want to see the layout you can look at mine, you can include a picture and all http://www.prlog.org/12063774-aoife-marie-sheridan-new-age-fantasy-

Interview with J.E. Taylor

What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?JET: My first introduction to vampires was the show Night Stalker (I'm aging myself here) and then the book Salem's Lot, which scared the be-jesus out of me. It was a while between those dark portrayals of little more than mass murderers to Anne Rice's Lestat, who still was more of a fiend than those vampires portrayed in today's popular vampire books (Twilight series) or shows (Vampire Diaries, True Blood). The most appealing aspect for me is the perceived fountain of youth that all classic and contemporary vampires seem to harbor. What inspired you to write this book?JET: I wanted to create a new lore. I know when I wrote the first book in the Death Chronicles with my son last year, making up an entirely new lore on death was a blast and I hadn't attempted a vampire story yet. I've tackled ghosts, angels, werewolves and even an evil demon in my other novels and short stories, so I thought it was time to try my had at these creatures of the night. Please tell us about your latest release.JET: Naomi Hawk faces death by demon, but a different destiny befalls her when she tumbles from an eighty-story ledge and is snatched out of the sky by a hungry vampire. Instead of succumbing to death by Damian's fangs, she bites back and the shadow infection transforms her into a newborn vamp. With an attitude to match the chip on her shoulder, she tests Damian's patience in every way possible, and the chemistry between the two teeters between ignition and explosion. When the demons come seeking retribution, their budding alliance is put to the test.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?JET: I learned to shoot a gun for my FBI series. I wanted to know what it was like and a friend at my day job had a few hand guns. He took me to a shooting range and taught me to shoot. A 22 caliber, a 40 caliber and a 9 millimeter. I hit the bulls-eye with the twenty two, barely hit the target with the forty caliber and couldn't hit the bale of hay anywhere with the nine millimeter. It isn't easy to deliver an accurate shot even when you're standing still. It gave me an appreciation for the skill my FBI agent has with a gun. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?JET: Yes. It's an annoying side effect of exhaustion for me. What I usually need when nothing at all comes to me is a nap or a good night's sleep. Enough for the dreams or nightmares to kick in. That usually helps me get back on track, if not, I take a break and read a good book.
Do you write in different genres? JET: Yes and no. My forte seems to be the suspense genre - the wrapper around the suspense varies. I've written YA titles and erotica titles as well as mainstream suspense. I've tackled horror and superhero fantasy and now a paranormal romance/urban fantasy is now on my list. Do you find it difficult to write in multiple genres?JET: No - as I said, the framework of a suspense is the same no matter the overarching genre (YA, fantasy, paranormal, sci-fi, horror, thriller, etc.) .
What was the last amazing book you read?JET: The last outstanding book I read was also one I edited. Firstborn by Bob Stewart is one of those adrenaline inducing stories where you're biting your nails at what you know is around the corner. Great suspense thriller if you're looking for a bad guy that would give Hannibal Lecter a run for his money.Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?JET: I love reading at the beach in Maine - this is more of a favorite summer reading place. Between the sound of the ocean and a captivating story, I'm a very happy camper. What can readers expect next from you?JET: I'm working on the second book in The Death Chronicles series with my son. That's due out this summer and I'm listening to audio book productions of my books. At this point, only Night Hawk is left to be produced. All my other novels are either already available in audio format or they will be very soonWhere can readers find you on the web?JET: http://www.jetaylor75.com http://jetaylor75.blogspot.com/http://www.facebook.com/pages/JETaylor/190872939774https://twitter.com/JETaylor75http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3153969.J_E_Taylorhttp://www.amazon.com/J.E.-Taylor/e/B003FER8M6/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1
Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?“You’re more than welcome to join me,” I said when she showed no signs of moving. Her mouth opened and she glanced back toward the living room. “When?”“Right now,” I said, knowing she wasn’t referring to my offer. She rolled her eyes. “When did you paint that mural?”“A long time ago,” I said. “Now, are you going to join me or not?” This time I turned toward her, giving her the full view and I smiled at the way her gaze bounced, her eyes widening a fraction before inching their way back up my chest to my face. Her cheeks bloomed and I cocked an eyebrow at her.She pressed her lips together and slammed the door, marching out of the room in a huff.I chuckled and ran the soap over my chest, running my fingers over what was left of the welt on my skin. The vampiric healing powers still amazed me enough that I missed the shift in the air around me.Nails scraped my back and I jumped, swinging my head in the direction of the disturbance. Her wide eyes met mine and I turned, drinking her in from head to toe. Exquisite was the only word that popped into mind and when her fingers touched my chest I reached, covering her hand and holding it against my skin.“What are you doing?” I whispered because having her undressed and this close put me at a major disadvantage.“I’m saying thank you,” she said and her hands moved lower.Catching her wrists, I warned, “Naomi, don’t start something you can’t finish.” My body responded anyway and she closed the distance. Her lips grazed my chest and I closed my eyes, releasing her and surrendering to her exploration. When her tongue trailed lower, I recalled the memories of her ex and my eyes snapped open. As much as the thought of her taking me in her mouth thrilled me, I didn’t want to be that memory and I grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her up to face me. She wasn’t one of the common harlots from my past that I let drop to their knees before me.No, Naomi was different and I wanted more.“You do not have to do this just because you aren’t ready for anything else.”Her dark eyes met mine and I traced the frame of her face with my fingertips, studying every curve. Leaning down, I took her lower lip in my mouth, sucking gently before shifting and delivering a kiss that started as tender and rich as her blood, but it soon escalated into an all-consuming heat and I could envision living in this bliss for the rest of eternity.I had lied to her today.Fear wasn’t the only deep emotion I had encountered since I plucked her out of the sky, this need to connect, to love again overwhelmed me. The irony of her name and the form she turned into added to the feel that fate had prepared this feast just for me.

Interview with Kym Grosso

Please tell us about your latest release.
Tristan’s Lyceum Wolvesis the third book in the Immortals of New Orleans series and is an erotic paranormal romance. At the end of Luca’s Magic Embrace, the charismatic and powerful Lyceum Wolves' Alpha, Tristan Livingston, endures an attack on his pack. His nightclub is set ablaze, and he’s crushed in a building collapse. In a show of strength, not only does Tristan survive it, he orchestrates the rebuild of his chic, state-of-the-art nightclub within a week. In his quest to mete out justice, he rescues a beautiful witness who may be the key to helping him find the perpetrators.
Dr. Kalli Williams, dedicated veterinarian, is hiding a secret that endangers not only her own life but the lives of wolves across the country. After being tortured by a savage vampire, she's reluctantly agrees to help the sexy Alpha in his quest to identify suspects; ones who'd kill her on the spot if they knew she existed. As Kalli places herself in the hands of the dominant wolf, she soon finds she wants nothing more than to submit.
Tristan, committed to ruling his pack as a lone wolf, is inexplicably drawn to the mysterious and enticing woman, who seems more than human, but not quite supernatural. As he discovers her secret, he teaches her the meaning of trust, helping her learn how to be true to her nature. Will he succumb to the visceral need to claim her, acknowledging the soul binding connection between an Alpha and his mate? And will he prevail against the menacing enemy who threatens to destroy Lyceum Wolves?
What inspired you to write this book?
Tristan’s book was a natural progression in the series after Luca’s book. He’s a wonderful character, and I couldn’t wait for him to get his own book. Tristan is a funny, sexy and oh so Alpha wolf.
Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre? In 2008, I created my own website, www.AutismInRealLife.com, where I started writing and publishing articles about autism. My son was diagnosed with autism in 1999, and I wanted to share my family’s experiences with other parents, families and professionals. After publishing a few articles in Autism magazines, I wanted to publish an article on Autism and Divorce. In my searching for a place to publish, I was offered a chance to write for PsychologyToday.com. It has been a wonderful place to write about autism, and I write there now.
As far as writing romance, I actually started to write a book about autism, but I seemed to have a block on where to go with it. I love, love, love reading paranormal romances. So I just decided one day that I wanted to write a paranormal romance, and I created Kade’s Dark Embrace, which was published in March 2012. Fast forward a year and I’m now releasing Tristan’s book.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much? There is just something magical about leaving the reality of real life and being able to write about anything you want. In a paranormal romance, characters are open to all kinds of experiences that are only limited by the author’s imagination. They have supernatural gifts and talents, and the rules of game can be anything you want them to be. And of course, there is nothing sexier than a hot alpha male vampire…well, except for, perhaps, a hot alpha male wolf.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
Whenever I name a new character, I try to pick a name that represents that character’s personality. It could be a sexy, strong alpha male name, like Tristan or Luca. With the female names, like Kalli’s, I look for a beautiful, unique name that seems to match the male’s. If it a character is born within a certain time period, sometimes I’ll research names from that time period to find an appropriate name.
It can be difficult because I really do want the name to fit the character. And I don’t always get it right in my first draft. I can end up changing it, sometimes even after the book is written. When I wrote Kade’s Dark Embrace, I used the name Zach the entire book. After editing it, I decided to change it to Kade. I liked both names but Zach ended up not being a good fit for Kade’s ultra-alpha male personality.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
This is a great question. And as an author, you do find yourself having relationship with the characters. When I’m writing, they feel like real people having real conversations even though they are entirely fictional and all in my own head. It’s kind of funny.
Tristan is by far the sexist male I’ve ever written. From business to sex, he’s completely confident in everything he does. While he’s very dominant, he has a great sense of humor about him. He’s a little bit of a bad boy as well; likes to ride his Harley, exudes sexuality and could care less if people see him naked after he shifts. There’s a scene in Luca’s book when he transforms from wolf to man if front of Samantha and just starts talking to her nonchalantly as if he isn’t nude. At some point, Luca looks at him and is like, “Really wolf? Where’re your clothes?” He just so confident and sure of his nature; he doesn’t ever pretend to be anything he isn’t. He’s pure Alpha wolf.
Do you have any weird writing quirks or rituals?
I don’t start with a word count on Chapter One, but once I really get into it, by Chapter Two, I try to write around 3,000 words a day. It forces me to keep going and remember what’s happening in the book, the previous scene, etc.
I write a scene at time, but the words and actions of the characters have to be in my mind before I start. So when I’m writing it is like I can’t shut my mind off. Whether I’m at the gym or in the shower, I’m constantly thinking about what is going to happen in the next scene of my book, exactly how it’s going to play out and what the characters are going to say. It just goes on like that day after day until the book is finished. Then I let it sit a few days and run back through every word for my own edits before I send it off to my editor.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?
The hardest part of writing a book, for me, is starting the next novel. If writer’s block starts, I do one of two things. Either I take a break from what I am writing and start writing about a different topic, like autism for my PyschologyToday.com blog. Or I just need to go back and really think about how the scene is going to flow. Sometimes it can be harder to write if I don’t have a clear sense of how a scene is going to be played out in detail including what the characters are going to do and say. I need to have all the details worked out in my head before I start writing, or it can thwart the natural flow of words.
When did you consider yourself a writer?
I have always wanted to write a book, but I don’t think that is the same thing as considering yourself a writer. I don’t think I considered myself a writer until I submitted autism articles and was published in a magazine. Then, I was like, “Hmm…maybe I can write.”
Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?
Yes. For Luca’s book I did online research about code hacking and cipher creation as well as site research in New Orleans. I’ve been to New Orleans many times, but while I was writing Luca’s book, I had the opportunity to go again. I was able to take tons of pictures and scout out the Maid of New Orleans statue. I actually ended up re-writing the scene where Luca and Samantha are looking for clues at the statue to reflect the actual physical layout of it. It really makes more sense when you get a chance to travel to the place you are describing.
If you do site research, it is easy to write about what you know and really describe what you’ve tasted, heard, smelled, seen, etc. There is nothing like the taste of a beignet or the feel of the crowd and street vendors throughout the French Quarter or the sound of street musicians. While in New Orleans, I also had the chance to tour the suburban areas and bayous. As I write Tristan’s book, these details will become more important, and I really needed to see it for myself.
Because I’m writing about wolves, I recently visited a wolf sanctuary where I was able to learn more about wolf habitats, behavior, etc. These are important details that I like to build into my stories. It helps me describe the scenes with the wolves, how they behave and interact. What can readers expect next from you?
The next book in the series will be Logan’s book. In Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves, Logan is Tristan’s beta. But by the end of the book, there is a surprise ending which leaves Logan in unforeseen circumstances. Without telling spoilers, Logan’s life is about change as he takes on new responsibilities and finds himself back in New Orleans.

Who do you root for when you read a book – the good guys or the bad boys?

I was torn about what to write for this guest post. I had two choices, either my daily routine as a writer, or sharing the men who occupy space in my head. Guess which won? :)In Nefertiti's Heart the men are divided into two distinct camps. There are the good guys, and the bad boys. The bad boys are led by Nathaniel, Viscount Lyons, known as the villainous viscount because of his underworld activities. He is backed up by his henchman and personal bodyguard, Jackson Jackson. Nathaniel's long term friend and pirate airship captain, Lachlan Hawke rounds out the bad boy team.
Then there are the good guys….
Inspector Hamish Fraser, of Her Majesty's Enforcers (kind of a mash up of the police and Scotland Yard) is a former military man and minor noble. His soft spoken manner puts people at ease, lulling them into revealing too much. He is a crusader, seeking justice for the murder victims. He is certain Cara is involved somehow, if he could just crack her defences and have her confide in him.

He is backed up on the street by Sergeant Connor. He was Fraser's sergeant in the army and followed his captain into civilian life. He's loyal, fierce and unstoppable in a fight. He also can't stomach the sight of a corpse and has been known to faint in the morgue. He makes a wicked cup of tea for his boss, but Fraser rarely remembers to drink it.

The last member of the good boy side is Lord Weaver Clayton. The gentle academic carries the guilt of what his father did to Cara. He tries to make amends by helping her, in her hunt for Nefertiti's Heart.

Book Description:
Cara Devon has always suffered curiosity and impetuousness, but tangling with a serial killer might cure that. Permanently.
London, 1861. Impoverished noble Cara has a simple mission after the strange death of her father - sell off his damned collection of priceless artifacts. Her plan goes awry when aristocratic beauties start dying of broken hearts, an eight inch long brass key hammered through their chests. A killer hunts amongst the nobility, searching for a regal beauty and an ancient Egyptian relic rumored to hold the key to immortality.
Her Majesty’s Enforcers are in pursuit of the murderer and they see a connection between the gruesome deaths and Cara. So does she, somewhere in London her father hid Nefertiti’s Heart, a fist sized diamond with strange mechanical workings. Adding further complication to her life, notorious crime lord, Viscount Nathaniel Lyons is relentless in his desire to lay his hands on Cara and the priceless artifact. If only she could figure out his motive.
Self-preservation fuels Cara's search for the gem. In a society where everyone wears a mask to hide their true intent, she needs to figure out who to trust, before she makes a fatal mistake.

Books and writing have always been an enormous part of my life. I survived school by hiding out in the library, with several thousand fictional characters for company. At university, I overcame the boredom of studying accountancy by squeezing in Egyptology papers and learning to read hieroglyphics.
Today, I write steampunk novels with a sexy edge and an Egyptian twist. I live in rural New Zealand surrounded by an assortment of weird and wonderful equines, felines, canine and homicidal chickens.
