Riva – Is a mermaid and is Seah’s older sister. She is the epitome of what a princess should be and follows orders without question even if she isn’t happy about them – like being forced to marry her father’s sworn enemy King Tahoe.

Arax – Head of King Tahoe’s guard and a little insane.

Seela – An orphan slave mermaid living under the roof of the insane Arax. She’s smart, quick and brave and stands tall in the face of fear.

Release Day Blitz Brass Stars by A.G. Carpenter

Excerpt:I stand up, sway for a moment and catch my shoulder hard against the post. “Ungh. Damn.” Jackson is on his feet in a heartbeat, slipping his arms around my waist. “Easy.”My cheeks are hot. At least it’s dark and maybe he won’t notice. “I’m all right.”“You’re certain?”“Just tired.” I try to shrug away from his hands. “It’s been a long day.”“Yes.” A pause. “Tashn…” He leans in and kisses me.Warm as a spring afternoon. Intense as a lightning strike. His arms holding me hard and close. Pushing me back toward the house. It’s nice. Enjoyable, even. And also terrifying. There is no spark like there is with Johnny, no rush of blood in thighs and breasts. This is energy of a different kind. I take a breath, trying to find something to say. “What the hell, Jackson.” I thump his shoulder with my fist. “You think I’m easy?”“No.” His eyes are dark, serious. He pulls me in a second time, slower, but no less intense. My chest aches with it.“Stop.” My hands are knotted in the front of his shirt, caught somewhere between pulling him close and shoving him away. “Let go of me.”He takes a half-step back, leaning against the other side of the doorframe. Only inches separate us, but it hurts like a bruise.I press both hands against my chest, panting for breath. This isn’t lust, and I’ll be damned if I think it’s love. But I know this pain. The grief of separation, no matter how slight. The echo of connection, no matter how permanent the distance.I felt this way when they put Mother under the sand.I felt this way the day I left my father’s village.“Damn you, Jackson.” I can barely whisper around the weight over my heart. He cups my face between his hands. “Come inside, Tashn.”“I can’t.”“John won’t keep you safe like I will.”“Like you will. A gunner with no gun.” I grin, bitter. “I think I’ll take my chances with the one-eyed Extra.”
He tips his head as though he will kiss me again, but this time I lean away from him.

Interview with Toni Hofman: Author of Soulless

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
I’ve been writing romances since grade school, and have loved fantasy and science fiction everything for just as long, so I’m not surprised at my choice of genre.  When I hit my teen years, I’d have dreams about falling in love with guardian angels, vampires, men from other planets, you name it.  My romantic heroes were Han Solo, Hicks from Aliens, and even Anne Rice’s Vampire Lestat, bad boy that he was. I’m not exactly normal, but I’ve made peace with that.

Please tell us about your latest release.
Soulless follows the romance between natural born predator David Jason Sawyer and Fairfield Police Detective Alexis (Alex) Martinez.
Alex is in pursuit of a smart, sadistic serial killer that picks his victims at random and leaves no trace evidence. Soon, Alex’s investigation puts her among the hunted, not by the serial, but by a much bigger threat: Family, a secret society with members imbedded inside world governments, law enforcement and every walk of life. Their prime objective is to avert discovery, and when her investigation comes too close to revealing their existence, Alex becomes a target. The only one that can save her is the trained assassin they’ve sent to kill her, David Jason Sawyer; a man she’s already dangerously attracted to, and who is slowly becoming her prime suspect.
David is a predator with the face of an angel, his mind a weapon as equally formidable as his body. He and his people represent the next step in man’s evolution. Their physiology has evolved to consume bio-energy directly. They’re stronger. They age at an incredibly decelerated rate. With their extraordinary ability to heal, they’re close to invincible. And they feed on humans to survive, draining the life force of their victims.
Since childhood, Sawyer has been trained to manipulate and entrap on reflex, to put emotion second and Family first; yet one moment of weakness, sparing Alex, the woman he has grown to love, makes him a dangerous threat his people cannot tolerate.
Now, Alex and David struggle to stay one step ahead of an invisible army out to silence them both.
Do you have a special formula for creating characters' names? Do you try to match a name with a certain meaning to attributes of the character or do you search for names popular in certain time periods or regions?
I always search for names with root meanings that tell a little something about the character.  For instance, ‘Alexios,’ the root of Alexis, my main female character, in the Greek, means ‘defender’ and ‘protector’.
Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
My main character, David, was the hardest to write.  He’s portrayed as a chameleon and master assassin with incredible control over his emotions.  He keeps them reined in because, to him, they’re his weakness.
When writing on the interplay between one character and another, the writer, of course, falls back on the characters’ emotional responses.  Well, what if you have someone that doesn’t show emotion and is cold to the point that he frightens?  That’s what made David so hard to write, and also so exhilarating.  He’s such a complicated person, that I couldn’t help but enjoy creating him, even though he frustrated me.

Do you have a formula for developing characters? Like do you create a character sketch or list of attributes before you start writing or do you just let the character develop as you write?
I let the character develop as I write for as long as possible, until I become stuck.  At that point, I create a character sketch, using those early scenes as the foundation.  For me, it’s easier that way.  It gives me a starting point, a picture for me to build on.

Did you find anything really interesting while researching this or another book?
I became really interested in weapons while researching this book.  Familyused swords, but they needed something more.  Since Family was a secret society that wanted to stay hidden at all costs, I had to find a weapon that left little trace evidence, but was as effective as a standard firearm.  That’s when I started looking into modern crossbows. Many hunting bows can be as deadly as any rifle.  In Soulless, the “bad guys” use high-performance crossbows that can shoot arrows at speeds exceeding 300 feet per second; and Snyper razor-tipped, twin-blade broadhead arrows, the blade designed to expand outward on impact, similar to a hollow-point 9mm bullet. Nasty.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? How do you deal with it?I suffer from writer’s block at least once a week.  What always works for me is reading my old material. The more I can immerse myself in the world I’ve created, the easier it is for me to pick up where I left off.  Oh, and chardonnay whilst immersing helps too ... lots of chardonnay.

What can readers expect next from you?
Soulless is the first book in a series.  The second book, Soulless: The Fallen, will be released in 2014.

Where can readers find you on the web?
Readers can find me at www.tonihofman.com; on Goodreads and on Twitter @tonihofman.

Would you like to leave readers with a little teaser or excerpt from the book?
Absolutely.
Alexis knew her cries of pleasure were surely penetrating the hotel room door and echoing down the halls but she didn’t care. The burning passion consuming her felt as relentless and dangerous as the trained killers that had been hunting them for days. The deft, sure strokes of David Sawyer’s fingers were damn near driving her crazy, trailing down her back, brushing her breasts, stroking her quivering stomach only to dip into the slick, aching depths of her, teasing, probing. He smiled down at her like a loving husband but, even now, she could sense the cold, restrained power that marked him as a dangerous man. Under his comforting weight, she bucked and cried out again, losing herself in a world of sensation that, for a few precious moments, eclipsed her fear.
He was an assassin trained to be unstoppable, methodical, ruthless. And at the moment, all of that felt as far away as the moon. Her want, her need of him had taken her over long ago, making all pretenses at sanity, at caring about what he was, as inconsequential as the detective's shield she still carried. She was his, body and soul, with no other identity. Not until the danger had passed and she could return to her normal life. If that was even possible.
But she wouldn't think of that now.
Sawyer's face, with its clear, strong brow, full lips and prominent cheekbones held a sense of hidden strength within its noble structure that never ceased to reassure her. His hair, as dark and lustrous as obsidian, fell down to partially cover his forehead. She grabbed a handful, yanked his head back and kissed him hard, drinking him in as a low chuckle vibrated in his chest.
Roughly, he spread her legs apart, his hard, muscular body pressing her down. She wrapped them around his hips, hugging him with her thighs, welcoming him. Sawyer's talented fingers reached between them and moved in a slow, lazy circle that robbed her of breath.
“Please—” she cried, barely recognizing her own voice.
She was on fire, her lithe frame twisting under him restlessly. As if to quench the heat, his mouth came down on her throat, trailing open, wet kisses along her sensitive skin.
His breath blew hot on her ear. “You like that. Tell me you like it when I touch you,” he coaxed sadistically. “It's okay, Alex.”
She groaned. “Shut up.”
Smug son of a bitch.
He chuckled again, and she felt him nip at her earlobe, his teeth causing a brief jolt of pain mixed with pleasure. His tongue laved the spot as if in apology, its circular motions sending electric currents of ecstasy shooting all the way down to her toes. “Say you love me. That you'll want me like this forever. Promise it, Alex. Come now, I'm losing patience.”
He thrust roughly against her to prove it and shot her a cocky smile that didn't do enough to downplay the taint of something not quite right in his voice. It caused her arousal to dampen a bit, and she pulled back to look at him. He returned her stare, his gaze only calmly assessing, without any specific motivation or ambition, untouched by the passion she darn sure had physical evidence he'd been feeling.
A man raised under the strictest edicts of discipline, David Sawyer always held his voice, emotions and reactions under strict control. Sometimes his eyes registered no emotion, and that chilled her. But when they looked at her and warmed, it was like the sun emerging to light up every part of her life.
They knew each other as deeply as two people could. Right now, she saw what he was hiding: uncertainty, and love so clear and startling it threatened to break her heart.
“Don't...” she whispered, desperately trying to hold on to the passion, to block out the troubling confusion he always brought.
He stroked her hair, filling his hands with the long, chocolate-brown tresses and then releasing them to tumble down along the pillows.
“Promise me,” he said.
She knew what he meant. He wanted her acceptance, her commitment, maybe even her forgiveness. Reality came crashing down, stamping out the fire that had threatened to overwhelm her seconds ago.
Damn it, don't ask me for that now.
“I'm trying.” It was all she could say. There was blood on his hands. Though he never admitted the fact, God help her, she knew it, and she didn't know how much. Alex forced her mind away from the thought just as Sawyer brushed his lips along her forehead in a gentle caress.
He was as seductive and darkly powerful as Lucifer, yet the good in him was so strong. It's what had ensnared her, why she couldn't kill him when she'd had the chance.
They'd met months ago and it was as if they were meant to be together from the first moment. Searching for each other. She knew what he was. He'd told her, because loving him, their being together, put her in danger. The people he belonged to wouldn't tolerate her. She knew their secret. It was that simple.
So, he'd convinced her to run with him. No plan. No time for that. Only escape, and a chance at life. Together. And even with her reservations, and only the small hope that she'd be able to return home someday, she went. She couldn't help herself. Or excuse her actions.
“I love you,” he said.
The oath she had taken to uphold the law, the one that ripped at her guts every time she went willingly into his arms, got to tearing her up again.
Please, God, let this get easier.
As she struggled to word a response, a strange sound carried down the narrow hall on the other side of their hotel room door.
Sawyer stiffened and looked in that direction.
Alex's preoccupied mind worked on the sound for a full three seconds before she realized that high-pitched whine, abruptly cut off, was a woman's strangled scream.
In one fluid move, Sawyer was standing, naked, a fierce, dangerous warrior poised to strike. His voice came calm but urgent. “Someone's found us. Get dressed. Fast as you can.”
Impossible.
They'd traveled west in his black Mustang, taking secondary roads instead of the major highways. They'd spent their nights at motels in out-of-the-way small towns before moving on. They'd left their credit and ATM cards back in Fairfield, and used their dwindling supply of cash for everything. Now, apparently, none of that had been enough.
No way we left a trail. However the hell his ability to sense his own kind works, it's gotta be off.
The motel was in the middle of the Arizona desert.
If they could track us here, and this quickly... Jesus...
Alexis reached for her 9-millimeter on the nightstand. “How do you know they're here?”
He stared at her intently. “I know.”
She grabbed her discarded jeans, t-shirt and gun holster from the floor and quickly threw them on. “Don't tell me: A family trait?” She couldn't keep the hostility out of her voice, or the anxiety that was behind it.
He dressed quicker than she could follow him with her eyes. A katana in a shiny black case had rested on the dresser. Now it was in his hands.
Swords were the weapons of choice in fighting among his kind; no bullet shells or other trace evidence left afterwards that might lead to their discovery, only blood. His people were masters with the weapon, trained since childhood. Sawyer gripped his katana firmly by the hilt, pressing it against his leg to partially conceal it from view, and then looked at the weapon holstered at her hip.
Adrenalin and a sharp, unsettling fear coursed through her.
It's not enough to drop one of you. I know.
Still, Alexis rested her hand on her gun, the weapon feeling uncomfortably inadequate against her palm.
“This isn't a stand-and-fight situation for you,” he said. “And these aren't Colin's men. My father couldn't have tracked us so quickly. If anybody's out there, it's Renegades. When I left you last night, I went looking for someone rumored to have joined their ranks: Braxen, heir to the Western House. I thought he might be able to help us. I had to make it known that I was seeking him. It was a mistake.”
“Run. I'll clear you a path.”
“No.”
“Alex, if they touch you...”
“You won't let them.”
Sawyer glared at her. For a moment, he looked on the verge of losing his carefully-honed calm. “I can't promise that.”
She shook her head. “If they get their hands on me, you won't let them hold me for long—”
“Alex—”
“—not long enough to calm themselves, to focus. If they can't concentrate on killing me, they can't kill me, right?”
“Unless they're armed, which they will be. I can't fight them and protect you at the same time.”
“You don't have to. I can hold my own in a fight. I'm the cop, Sawyer, remember? I'm not freaking helpless.”
“Yes you are,” he pressed. “You're human.”
“Look, maybe this gun can't kill them, but it sure as hell can slow them down.”
They were out of time.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Stay behind me. If it gets rough and I tell you to run —”
“I'm smart enough to be scared, okay? Let's just get this done.”
She opened the door.
And all of the lights in the hotel's hallway went out, plunging them into darkness.
For a moment they hesitated on the threshold, then Alex felt him grab her hand. Together, they walked out into the hall, Sawyer slightly in front of her.
At the end of the corridor, they turned left and headed into the lobby. The area behind the reception desk was empty. Blood spray ran diagonally along the wall near it. A smeared trail of red on the linoleum tiles led from behind the desk and out the hotel entrance.
Shit.
Alex's heartbeat sped faster.
They kept moving, exiting the building, heading for the parking lot.
She only saw one of them, a tall man, lean and muscular, wearing jeans and a weathered leather jacket, and with that ageless look Alex was beginning to recognize. He looked to be in his twenties, but she knew he could be much older. He stood at the back of the Mustang, waiting for them.
Rain fell in a slow downpour.
They stopped twenty feet away from him.
“One of Colin's?” she whispered to Sawyer.
He shook his head.
Renegades.
Sawyer's voice carried through the rain. “I wasn't hunting him. No order has been given. I came to talk. My father does not know I'm here. If you choose to move against me now, Renegade, that will change. We both don't want that. Do you understand?”
The tall man shrugged.
Alex felt a prickling at the back of her neck and turned.
She watched four others approach from a parked car at the side of the hotel entrance.
Her breath quickened. Five of them.
She looked at the tall man again and saw that he held a sword now, his katana's blade glittering in the harsh light from the parking lot's overhead lamps.
Terrified, she unholstered her weapon. Raised it.
“No,” Sawyer yelled. “Run!”
One of the approaching four came towards her, sword raised.
She fired, the loud boom of the shot echoing in her ears.
The bullet hit the man mid-chest, right where his heart should be.
The man staggered. And kept coming.

Supernatural Urban Legends Guest Post by author Sherry Soule

Today bestselling author, Sherry Soule has some exciting news to share with us! All the previously published books in the Spellbound series have been rewritten and republished with more epic romance and suspenseful thrills. The new versions also include exclusive bonus material and brand new scenes. Even additional scenes from charming, bad-boy, Trent Donovan’s point-of-view! To help promote the new editions, she is doing this awesome book tour to share the update with fellow booklovers. Hi everyone, I’m Sherry Soule—waving from the Bay Area. Thanks for letting me stop by today and chat about my books. It’s a thrill to get to be a guest and meet fellow booklovers. I have put together a few mysterious and intriguing urban legends about the Spellbound series that surround the cursed town of Fallen Oaks, California…
Urban Legend #1Some researchers believe that certain demon races are actually the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim. (They are also considered to be Shadow People.) The origination of the Nephilim began with the legend of an archangel named Raziel. Urban legend states that Raziel escorted a sect of angels that were to instruct humans in morality.Unfortunately, these angels began to educate man in sciences that God had deemed to be forbidden. These subjects included astrology, divination, and magic. The tutelage went on for centuries, until the angels began to pine for the human females. After the fallen angels, or sometimes known as the Fallen, had sexual relations with the women, their unholy union resulted in the hybrid offspring called: Nephilim, which are the direct descendants of the antediluvian Fallen. Nephilim are also known as the Grigori or the Watchers. It has been insinuated that one of the main reasons for the great flood, was not only to punish man, but to cleanse the earth of the Nephilim created from the union of fallen angels and human women. The flood banished most of the Fallen and their offspring into a Sheol. So, do you believe in the Nephilim? What do you think will happen if they are ever freed?
Urban Legend #2One haunted house claim that continues to be an urban legend is the infamous, Ravenhurst Manor in Fallen Oaks. Books and stories have been written based on its hauntings and its reputation as one of California's most ghostly places. Ravenhurst Manor’s first owner was a woman and dark sorceress named, Rowan Broussard. After her death, the estate was used as an all girl’s boarding school for many years. The sixty room Gothic mansion was listed for sale with the resident ghosts. Other odd things that occurred in in this house were: doors and windows that opened or closed on their own, cold drafts, whispering voices, and some visitors even claimed to see a dark shadowy figure roaming the halls. However, Ravenhurst is most famously linked to the disappearance of six children during the years of 1964 through 1967. (After the school was closed, the estate became the property of the town before it was sold to an wealthy, oil magnate.) After the children’s' bodies were discovered buried within the walls of the house, obviously from less than peaceful circumstances, the town buried them in Silent Hollows Cemetery. Did these Children buried on unconsecrated ground, lead to the strange tragedy that would make this mansion so famous?
Urban Legend #3Ah, let’s move on to the zombie apocalypse! Another interesting urban legend states that on September 28, 1941, during an eclipse, a zombie was spotted in Fallen Oaks. To make matters worse, a fire at the local mill had swept through town. As day turned to night, more zombies appeared. Many townsfolk mistook the undead for dazed mill workers. After the residents received hugs from the zombies, they were bitten by these paranormals, and soon the epidemic spread across the town like wildfire. To make matters worse, the roads and bridges connecting Fallen Oaks to the rest of the Bay Area had burned in the fire. The townsfolk had no way to escape. Scores of people become lost when they chose to venture into the dark depth of Deadwood Grove rather than face the insatiable zombie menace.Within days, the Paranormal Research Group (PRG) converged on Fallen Oaks in a variety of aircraft. They established a base on the south side of the forest and went about the process of extermination. It took two weeks to secure the town. A total of 500 people were plague-ridden, an enormous number considering that there wasn’t a zombie vaccine available at this time. Whatever the case, Fallen Oaks’s zombie outbreak affected just under 600 people, making it one of the worst cases in U.S. history. Are you prepared for a zombie apocalypse? What if zombies start showing up again?

Deadly Witchcraft. Ghostly Threats. Doomed Romance. They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Fallen Oaks. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse. When sixteen-year-old Shiloh Trudell takes a summer job at Craven Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes enchanted by his charms. Finally, Shiloh’s met someone who is supercute and totally into her, but Trent is immersed in the cunning deception that surrounds the mysterious Craven Manor. So much so that he may lose sight of what is truly important to him. And she can’t decide whether she wants to shake him or kiss him. Yet neither one of them can deny the immediate, passionate connection growing between them. But underlying everything is the fear that Trent may be the next victim on a supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him… With cryptic messages from a pesky wraith, Shiloh will finally begin to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist and decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

Guest Blog with Christopher Michael Reardon Author of Obstacles

No Limits!
When I first started writing my book, I had no idea what would happen. Initially, I was sure I would get bored, quit halfway through, or eventually hate my ideas and just give up on them altogether. So, I did not have high hopes for finishing it. When I started writing that first chapter, however, something completely changed. I absolutely loved writing it! It was awesome to be able to control the story, the characters, their reactions, their actions, etc. I could make them do anything I wanted, and change how everything occurred! I felt like I had a whole world at my fingertips; because I did!

I could allow my mind to think of any and all possible circumstances, because I literally controlled everything. I made worlds, battles, adventures, fights, etc. anyway I wanted to. I could stretch my mind into new possibilities I would have never thought of before.

This is why I recommend writing so much. I can’t describe how awesome it is to make up whatever story you want. There are pretty much no limits to what you can think of. If you ever stop liking your ideas, you can just scrap them and start over! I definitely did that a lot! Something I liked one minute I wasn’t so crazy about it the next. So, I just changed it, or got rid of it altogether! The freedom to do whatever you want makes it all worth it. I learned things about people, circumstances, and actions I would have never even known before.

So, if you are interested in writing a book, short story, novella, or anything at all, I highly recommend you try. If you ever do not like the direction you are going in, you can always change it! There’s nobody stopping you; you have all the power! I guarantee you’ll be surprised at what you can come up with.

A child will die. You're afraid to live. Would you go to all lengths to save him? Darkness knows no bounds, as Alcott, an African American doctor sees all too well. The man is petrified by death. His fragile existence rests at the mercy of the universe. This fact is far too much for him to handle. From unyielding nightmares to elevator terrors, he's lost in paranoia.

Assigned to look after an ill child, Alcott's horrors only heighten. Gari is a nine-year-old boy with a fatal disease. He will surely pass on within the year. Alcott bonds with him more and more each day. Part of him knows this grim fate just isn't right.

Alcott befriends a hospital patient. This lunatic forces him to lug home an ancient text on bringing back the dead. Despite the man's obvious dementia, Alcott attempts the scheme. Charging up a cliff, he recites the chant over ocean gusts.

A god woman glides in from the horizon. She instructs Alcott on the trials to save Gari's life. These fearsome Obstacles require true strength. From battling sharks to wielding a flail, he must prove fortitude against genuine danger. Alcott decides his fate at this moment.

Death's claws shall not grasp Gari's soul.

Naughty in Norway by Christine Edwards

The Sensual Lure Of A Foreign Accent
We’ve all experienced it. Perhaps you were wandering through an Ikea, or in line at a Starbucks when you heard the mysterious purr for the first time. The words didn’t really matter; it was the way that it was said so seductively. So, just exactly what is it about a man with a foreign accent that makes us want to get naked and horizontal inside of six seconds?
Perhaps it’s the smoothness of the speech, or the way the words flow from their lips that notches up the hotness factor? Whenever I hear a man with a thick foreign accent, be it Eastern European (My personal favorite) or perhaps a Kiwi from New Zealand, my eyes nearly close in appreciation as I listen intently to their exotic voices.
Alreck Falstad, the Norwegian bad boy hero biker from Naughty in Norway has just such an accent. His seductive lilt and rumbly tone draws the American heroine, Vail, in like a moth to a flame. Imagine a beautiful man whispering in a lulling accent softly against your ear and if he often switches to his foreign language even better!
Have you ever dated a man with a foreign accent? Ever wish to? Thoughts on this topic?
All the best,
Christine

Book Description:
Vail Fillion has left her home in Huntington Beach, California, to study Scandinavian Culture in Oslo, Norway. But she gets her first real taste of culture shock when she goes along with her friend Lisetta to a wild party at her cousin's biker bar. Vail is surprised to find such a large group of motorcycle enthusiasts in this often snow-bound country. She is even more stunned to discover that the bikers are normal guys, if perhaps even more physically imposing than your average Viking. Alreck Falstad--a 6'6" blond, tattooed stand-in for a Norse god--catches her eye but also scares her to death.
Just as Vail is starting to enjoy herself at the party, something truly frightening occurs. The evening is abruptly cut short by a brutal crime, and she is the lone witness. Before she can make it to the cops, Vail is drugged, loaded into Alreck's truck, and transported to his remote cabin in the Lofoten Islands.

Why has Alreck kidnapped her, and what are his plans for her in his snowy haven? Is he her savior, her nemesis, or both? Even if she could escape, would she truly want to?

Short Excerpt:

Alreck hovers just outside the bathroom as I pull the door open, his legs spread wide and his arms crossed in front of him in a dominant stance. He watches me warily.

“Choose a drink,” he says before stepping out of the doorframe.

“Go find my wallet and I will,” I sass back at him with hands on my hips.

He leans down within inches of my face and says in a harsh whisper, “Enough, woman. We’re not stopping again until the fuel runs out, so pick something to drink or you’ll go without.”
Okay, what’s with the excessive alpha-ness?

“Whatever.” I mumble to myself as I trudge past him and grab a giant bottle of Voss water.
He slips the bottle from my fingers and stalks up to the register to pay. I see that he’s also purchasing a coffee along with another bottle of water. The forty-something female attendant bats her eyelashes at him and giggles as she gives him the total. If he notices at all then he’s not letting on. With his looks, women most likely hijack his cell on a regular basis to program their digits into it for him. Ugh!

He takes my hand once again while carrying the bagged drinks in the other. We rush through the bitter cold toward his truck and this time he doesn’t attempt to help me get in.

It is a struggle to climb into the cab, but once I’m seated I reach out and slam the door in his face, making certain that it’s left unlocked.

Please let this plan work.

My breathing is out of control as the adrenaline begins to course through my veins.
I watch cautiously as he hauls his big frame up into the cab, and just as he reaches into the bag of drinks I lurch my door back open and jump down, falling hard onto my knees in the snow. It stings like a beast and I bite back a groan as I lurch to my feet and begin to run back, hell bent, toward the tiny store.

I ran track throughout college and know that I’m quick, but my knees are killing me from the impact and the snowy ground is a far cry from a proper track. When I’m halfway across the parking lot, someone passes me in a sprint. Alreck?

Before my brain can register how to evade him, he turns around and faces me with rage in his eyes before charging at me. He hauls me up and over his giant shoulder before I can so much as pivot away from him.

Speechless, I look up in terror at the attendant who’s watching us from inside the window in stunned surprise.

Like a complete Neanderthal, he locks a hold across my suspended legs and prowls right back to the station. He says something to her in Norwegian that, to my complete dismay, makes her laugh and wave to me as I’m carried away.

“Call the …!” I wail, yet before I can complete the sentence a hard slap lands without mercy right on my ass cheek, effectively silencing me after I let out a startled, “Ooh!” as the burn spreads across my rear.

The attendant gives me cheeky smile. What did he say? She seems to have zero clue what I’m desperately trying to convey to her.

I’m doomed.

Too frightened to struggle, I let my body go slack as I’m carried to the truck.

Setting: Lost Alpirion City

While in Alpiria, Izana and Modius are taken to an abandoned underground city by Tuhotep. Izana tells Modius that the Ancient Alpirions built their structures underground to protect them from hot desert sun and the vicious alien Barbarians that attacked settlements outside the barrier. I had used the ancient city of Petra as inspiration for the city that was carved out the rock below, but after doing some digging (haha – pun intended), I discovered the ancient underground cities of the Cappdocia region of Turkey. The largest of these cities was Derinkuyu, which could hold 25000-50000 people.

Would you ever consider living in an underground city.

ISBN: 978-1-940559-99-5ASIN:
Number of pages: 278Word Count:  78K
Cover Artist: Jaycee Delorenzoat Sweet ‘N Spicy Designs

Book Description:
The fate of the empire hangs on one slave breaking her silence…
As the Deizian Empire prepares for the upcoming wedding of Emperor Titus Sergius Flavus and Azruha, one mystery remains unsolved—the sudden and unexplained death of the former emperor. And as her wedding gift to Titus, Azurha wants to give him answers. She suspects an unknown poison was involved, and her search for the truth enlists two unlikely allies.
Modius Varro’s thirst for knowledge caused an uproar in Emona three years ago and exiled him to the border town of Madrena. But when Titus falls victim to the same poison, his expertise in medicine becomes essential in solving both the riddle of the former emperor’s death and finding a cure to save the current one. His search leads him to far reaches of the Alpirion realm, to an ancient culture shrouded in secrets, and into the arms of one slave who must break her silence to save the empire.

About the Author:
Growing up in small town Alabama, Crista relied on story-telling as a natural way for her to pass the time and keep her two younger sisters entertained.
She currently lives in the Audi-filled suburbs of Seattle with her husband and two children, maintaining her alter ego of mild-mannered physician by day while she continues to pursue writing on nights and weekends.
Just for laughs, here are some of the jobs she’s had in the past to pay the bills: barista, bartender, sommelier, stagehand, actress, morgue attendant, and autopsy assistant.
And she’s also a recovering LARPer. (She blames it on her crazy college days)

Interview and Giveaway with OL Ramos

What inspired you to become an author?
This is a bit of a sappy, corny story. I had a really great second grade teacher. I was really into sports and really didn’t care about reading at all. She held this event every few weeks. She called it an “Author’s Tea Party”. She would basically have her students write a story or poem, about whatever they’d like, and she would have them read to the class. Everyone had to do it eventually, and when it was my turn to do it, I wrote about scary zombies. I thought I was being defiant, she thought I was being different. It made me realize that writing wasn’t about boring or impersonal stuff. I could write about whatever was near and dear to my heart. I had thought writer’s always wrote stuffy literary, pretentious stories; not fun things like zombies! So I thought it was an awesome job; it became my dream to become a writer one day.
Do you have a specific writing style?
I'm pretty long-winded. I tend to focus more on what motivates the characters. They are all very big on expressing their feelings. I think it works. It's definitely a great outlet for my rants. LOL!
How did you come up with the title for your latest book?
In this book, Mary gets reborn. Thus, the title. It also represents a rebirth of the way the inhabitants look at their world; it all changes in this book.
Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?
So far, I've titled them first because I had a good idea of where the book was going to go. That might change though. Originally, the first book's title was actually supposed to be "Rebirth", now "Rebirth" is the third book.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
In life, there are a million different perspectives in everything you deal with. Even a conversation between only two people can be interpreted many different ways. The message I would want to get across is that nothing is ever the way it seems. Even when given the facts of a situation, there's more truth hidden there, you just gotta dig.
What is your current “work in progress” or upcoming projects?
I’m currently writing the third book, “The Keeper: Rebirth”.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
“The Keeper: Rebirth”. It picks off right from the final moments of Book Two and plunges deeper into the mounting revolt. A lot of new elements are introduced and there are even a few new characters. I really wanted to make this one open the world up, make the reader get a sense of just how big this is. I hope I accomplished that.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
My favorite author is Stephen King, he is brilliant.  King has the uncanny ability to make you feel like you're involved in the story. When you put yourselves in the shoes of a character in the middle of a horror story, that's a scary position to be in. It just makes you appreciate the story that much more.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
I think the most important thing, and this is true in most things, if you're not having fun writing it, no one is going to have fun reading it. Don't force it, just go with the flow. If you're having a good time writing it, chances are people will love reading it!

Book Description:
If the world you lived in was someday revealed to be nothing but a lie, would you really want the truth? Elizabeth McBeth did, and she's paid the price for it...
After almost 10 years since Liz's mother was taken from her, Liz finally found her mother, Mary. But Mary has been forever changed, something that Liz will have to accept. The beginning of happier times, one would think...
The conspiracy has been exposed; Liz, Vincent, Mary and Michael had all thought that the vampire plot had been destroyed. They should have never underestimated Klein.
Klein has reinforced his armies, splitting the entire vampire species with the question... is Klein the vampiric messiah? Unfortunately for the heroes and the world itself, Klein has set in motion a plan that will destroy the world and recreate it in his own image.
Will the group be able to defeat Klein and restore the balance to nature? Or are they already doomed?

Except:

Vincent tilts his head and walks closer to me, stopping about two feet away. He looks down at me and blinks his eyes, seeming unsure of what to say. He opens his mouth as if to speak and then stops himself. He inhales deeply and licks his lips, narrows his eyes and just nods his head.
“That’s because, when it comes to your safety, nothing ever will be good enough,” he answers somberly, almost as if he hated saying it where others might hear. “You could shoot the bull’s-eye every single time, you could split bullets with other bullets, it still wouldn’t be good enough. You’re still a damsel in distress to me. Someone I need to protect, no matter what. And it’s not just because of the world and Klein’s plan. You’re my Goldilocks, Goldilocks.”
He looks at me and lifts my chin up gently with his finger.
“Though sometimes I’m just looking at your bubble butt for more than just the sake of your safety,” Vincent says with a cocky smile.
I try to slap him but he grabs my arm, so softly that I don’t even know his hand was on my forearm ‘til I see it with my own eyes.
“You always have to have the last word, don’t you?” I ask, feeling myself trembling. “You always got to be the joker, the one who doesn’t care about anything. You think you’re fearless or unbeatable?”
“Unbeatable? Nah, not even close,” Vincent says as he begins to stare at my lips. “Fearless? Hell no, I’m terrified. But I’m not terrified when I’m fighting Klein’s lackeys or dealing with whatever big baddie we gotta fight. I’m scared stiff when the idea of you being in harm’s way comes to my mind. But mostly? I’m just terrified when I’m in your presence. You. You scare the crap out of me.”
“Me?” I ask, unsure of what to say as I stammer through a simple word.
Vincent just continues to stare at my lips as he nods his head slowly.
Then it happens. I don’t even know why or how myself. But I just have to have him. I throw myself at him and drape my arms around the back of his neck. I kiss him passionately, almost aggressively. I feel my knees shake, almost buckling beneath my body’s weight as I feel his tongue softly massage my own. I feel goose bumps spring up all over my body as his fingers run through my hair. He pulls my head back gently and nibbles on my neck, teasing. I try to wrap my left arm behind his lower back when I feel him slowly pull away.
I keep my eyes closed for a few seconds, not sure of what has just happened. Vincent has his back to me, trying to hide his face.

About the Author:
From what I understand, the first line of this thing is where I say something really interesting that wins you over. After all, they say that you know within seconds of meeting a person whether you like them or not.
So...yeah... I got nothing. But if there is one thing I know, it's that through stories we discover the world, learn about history and traditions; and in doing that, we become who we are as an individual.
Since I was a very young child, my only dream was to become an author one day. I wanted to reach people with my words, maybe even entertain them. I wanted to touch their lives and give them something to think about. After all, I am a loveable blowhard kinda guy... that's gotta be entertaining, right?                            In my life, I've done many things; from supervising sales for a retail giant chain to being a Deputy Sheriff. You would think that a person who had been shot at for a living would be brave enough to write a biography without all the sarcastic quips. Unfortunately no, that's one of my main flaws as the above mentioned blowhard.
Anyhoo, please feel free to drop me a line! If you loved the book, I wanna hear about it. If you hated every word of it, please make sure to let me know, but please avoid the CAPS LOCK! The font can be a little... demeaning. Make sure to have fun guys! They say you only live twice; and if that's true, we're at least half done.
