What Super Power Would You Like to Have? Guest Blog with K.A. M’Lady

The Gift of Giving
Imagine, if you can, the gift for magic.  What would you create?  What gift would you give?  Would stop to heal the ailing, like the crone, the Wiseman, a witch?
Witchcraft, magic; some say, is a comingling of religion, folk medicine, superstitions and unknown, unexplained fears. The quintessential witch, in popular culture is an image of an old hag; straggly grey hair, gaunt face, long nose.  History shows innocence burned in a fiery pit, or the drowning chair – the town folk gathered in witness.
What if your skills, your magic could heal a person’s soul?  The price – your complete surrender.  Would you take the risk?  In the Vranthian Vampires series the Darengy – grave-warriors, and healers, have this magic.  The gift to help heal two nations.  The past has proven its discourse with the Vranthian’s, and yet hope for survival is everything.  Would this be your gift to give?
If you possessed one super power, what would it be?
The ability to see the future?
Super-sonic speed?
Invisibility?
Healing?
Flight?
Zombie-Slayer? (is that a career, a super-power or a hobby?)
The power to control climate changes?
Balance your check book, organize your closet and cook diner – all at the same time? (hey, it could happen…)
Mega-strength?
Find those missing socks?

Magic Changes Everything When Loves Claims The Soul
On Vranthia, The Wasting is spreading, mutating, claiming not only the women of this fierce, warrior race, but stealing the lives of men, children, warriors, and now, some say, even the Elders among their race.
Rumors of the trion – the ancient joining of Vranthian, Darengy and Outworlder blood and magic as a cure – is growing beyond the halls of Prince Kuthar’s court. With his brother, Prince Draven’s recent joining, there is the first glimmer of hope for their people. But with hope comes lies and growing subterfuge. The Elders demand a rightful ruler and some will stop at nothing to get it.
Kuthar Balacjek – leader, warrior, and vampire is first in line to be the rightful king. Bred to rule from an early age, he has learned Vranthian laws, and their ancient history. He has studied their past, and fought their battles with the blood, sweat and ferocity, that only a true ruler can comprehend. But The Wasting is an enemy that even he is uncertain how to conquer. Will he find the answers he seeks in the ones whose fate he now controls? Or have they laid claim to his soul?
Cynthiana Rue – Cyn – has never been more irritated in her life. Space-napped by her best-friend and a misfit crew of alien vampires she is swept up in Vranthian legend, war and her captors’ unbridled passions. Will she fight for her freedom or give in to the unknown?
Ooen has known slavery his entire life. Bound since youth to guard the Elder, Vogeth, he has known a life of deception. And now, The Wasting has changed everything. Accused of Vogeth’s death, his fate now lies in the hands of the Vranthian ruler – something his human captive can comprehend. Will he too rebel, or will his magic help to set them all free?

Book Description:
Under the dark skies of Vranthia The Wasting has spread, claiming victims by the thousands. Disease, madness and death shroud this fierce warrior race.
With the recent death of their mother, Queen Srionna Balacjek, and the imminent demise of their grieving father, King Kamet; three brothers must now find their own path. Will The Wasting’s dark madness claim them all as deceit and lies turn brother against brother. Or, is the key to saving their people in the legend of the trion. And will they find it in time?
Draven Balacjek -- warrior, Prince, immortal. Fierce in battle, sure and deadly as a dark a storm or the shadows he walks among, must choose between the ties of brotherhood or the possibility of a life without the parts of his soul he has bound in blood and magic.
The Vranthians have taken everything from Ook. Desecrated the Darengy people as a whole. But the visions of a grave-warrior tell no lies and the spirit of the human along with the fierce strength of his Prince, Draven Balacjek call to him as nothing before. Can their love together heal the wounds that time has wrought and free him of his darkness?
For singer, Leah Allen, the choice was never hers to make. But life, like the music her heart clings to, has a way of playing itself out. Will this strange new world and the fierce warriors she meets within it bring her shattered past the healing she has always needed or will the strangers she finds herself bound to be her hearts undoing? Can she make a choice between dark, intense Draven and exotic, muscular Ook?

Guest Blog Loving in Time by AE Kirk

Hello Fang-tastic blog followers. I'm Abi and I'm a fantasy, romance and sci-fi author who lives in Merry Old England! My friends class me as an English Eccentric, but I just find I'm fun, although typical to English people, I do drink a lot of tea and always end up talking about the weather at least 3-4 times a day! I'm also a Downton Abbey fan, an archaeologist, a dyslexic, a Nutella eater, Harry Potter nutter and Editor in Chief of a fantasy magazine, the Kingdom of Fantasy. But on another note, I want to share with you a few random things about the development of the book.
I'm part of an amazing website called Wattpad, which is basically Youtube for e-books. I started out in 2010 and one of my most popular books was featured on the site! But then in 2011 I participated in a competition that Wattpad hosted. The competition was writing a novel in 3 months! The end result was Loving In Time, where it was featured on Wattpad as a runner-up winning novel. During writing LIT, I was hard pushed to find good music (playlist below) so my fans helped me out. My main genre's that I write in are fantasy and sci-fi, so I had never done a romance story before, but I gave it ago. The book is the first of a five book series called the In Time series, but it's only on Wattpad so far. The second book, Journey In Time, is on Wattpad to read for free.

Below is a short playlist of music that helped me write during the creation of the story and also I added a few songs that I felt were right for the book if I ever lived in a lucky world and the book became a film.
Playlist:
Justin Villarosa - I Hate High SchoolNickleback - How You Remind MeThin Lizzie - The Boys Are Back in TownHe Is We - His NameImogen Heap -The Moment I Said ItJoy Williams - Speaking A Dead LanguageThe Wailin' Jenny's - Across the SeaStevie Nicks - LandslideDixie Chicks - You Were MineAvril Lavigne - I Love YouHinder- Without You
I want to thank fang-tastic books for giving me a guest post on their blog. It was fun collecting the playlist and delving into my English eccentricity.

Book Description:
Living in New England, half Greek half American high school student, Helen, lives a relatively normal life; a mother and father and two bratty younger twin brothers. But it all changes when her mother welcomes two strange but devilishly cute boys, Marcus and Gus, into the house and into Helen’s life.
While the boys live with Helen, they help her discover that she is far from normal and she is, in fact, part of an ancient Grecian love story that has stretched to every corner of the world. She is Helen of Sparta from the myth, Helen of Troy. The boys however, ask a difficult favour from her, to leave her modern family and go back in time to help break an ancient cycle.
Given the ability to stop time and travel into centuries past, she and her new friends, Marcus and Gus, are joined by five other boys who try and protect Helen from the evil Decurion soldiers; ancient time travellers who wish to stop Helen from breaking the cycle.

Journeying to Ancient Greece, Helen must act as she once had but when the moment the war begins and Helen must break the cycle, she is given a life changing decision. The question is, will she choose wisely?
About the Author:
AE Kirk lives within the majestic Devonshire countryside in England, UK where she wrote her novel, Loving In Time, within three months for a competition. Winning joint runner-up, she continued to write a number of other books ranging from sci-fi, to fantasy and action and a year later, while she was in South Korea teaching English, found a publisher. Kirk, who is Editor in Chief for a fantasy and sci-fi magazine, Kingdom of Fantasy, loves nothing more than to write interesting and unique stories with unusual plot-twists. After gaining a Masters in Social Archaeology at Lampeter University, Wales, Kirk uses her research skills to describe, in vivid detail, the ancient locations in her books. Casie
She would give her last breath for him. He would give up everything to guard her well and love her more.
About Ruth A. Casie:
Ruth started reading romance books while traveling the world for business. Traveling alone can be daunting but she found a book in hand could see her through long waits at the airport as well as being good company at dinner for one. For some of her longer treks, she pared down what she packed to make room for books. Her favorite genres are romance and adventure.
A seasoned professional with more than twenty-five years of writing experience in communications and marketing for a large financial institution, she gave way to her inner muse and began writing a series of historical fantasy romance novels. Ruth is published by Carina Press and Harlequin Books.
When not writing you can find her home in Teaneck, New Jersey, reading, cooking, doing Sudoku and counted cross-stitch. Together with her husband, Paul, they enjoy ballroom dancing and going to the theater. Ruth and Paul have three grown children and two grandchildren. They all thrive on spending time together. It’s certainly a lively dinner table and they wouldn’t change it for the world.
You can read more about Ruth online at www.RuthACasie.com , on Twitter at twitter.com/RuthACasie, or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RuthACasie
Christmas Spirits ~ Lita Harris
A widow's everlasting love is renewed by the memories of the holiday season.
About Lita Harris:
Lita Harris spends her time between New Jersey and the Endless Mountains region of Pennsylvania, where she writes most of her books. She also lived in Alaska for a short time just for fun. An avid crafter, unused supplies clutter her basement and attempts at making pottery, jewelry, and stained glass are proudly displayed in her house, usually behind a picture or holding a door open. She also makes candles and homemade soap. With enough books to stock a small library she may need to construct a building to store her literary obsessions.
She writes in multiple genres, including women’s fiction, contemporary romance, paranormal, and cozy mysteries. For more information about Lita, please visit her website at www.LitaHarris.comor at twitter.com/litaharrisand facebook.com/litaharrisauthor.

About Emma Kaye:
Emma Kaye is married to her high school sweetheart and has two beautiful kids that she spends an insane amount of time driving around central New Jersey. Before ballet classes and tennis entered her life, she decided to try writing one of those romances she loved to read and discovered a new passion. She has been writing ever since. Add in a playful puppy and an extremely patient cat and she’s living her own happily ever after while making her characters work hard to reach theirs.

Letter from St. Nick ~ Nicole S. Patrick
She’s trying to save her home and he’s never had one until now. Can an unexpected gift lead their hearts to the same place?
About Nicole S. Patrick:
Nicole S. Patrick has always loved to read, and in her teenage years, she “borrowed” her mom’s books to sneak away and become lost in the world of romance. After more than ten years in the corporate world of tech recruiting and HR management, she decided to stay home and raise children. But with so many romantic stories and characters floating around in her head, when the kids napped, she was compelled to put those words on a page and pursue this crazy dream of becoming published. Nicole writes romantic suspense and her heroes are those alpha males in uniform. She lives in New Jersey with her real-life hero, her husband, and her two sons.
For more information about Nicole, please visit her website at www.nicolespatrick.com
Secret Santa ~ Julie Rowe
A nurse grieving the death of her twin brother receives an usual gift at the staff secret Santa party: the bullet that killed him along with a message of hope and love.
About Julie Rowe:

Julie Rowe’s first career as a medical lab technologist in Canada took her to the Northwest Territories and northern Alberta, where she still resides. She loves to include medical details in her romance novels, but admits she’ll never be able to write about all her medical experiences because, “No one would believe them!” In addition to writing contemporary and historical medical romance, and fun romantic suspense for Entangled Publishing and Carina Press, Julie has a short story in The Mammoth Book of ER Romance (September 2013). Her book Saving the Rifleman (book one of the War Girls series) won the novella category of the 2013 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence. Release Day Blitz A Vampire's Christmas Carol by Cynthia Eden

A Vampire's Christmas Carol by Cynthia Eden
This holiday season has bite.
Ben Prescott hates Christmas—he’s a vampire, and to him, there’s certainly nothing jolly about the holiday season.  While the humans are running around being merry, he’s hunting in the shadows.  Ben plans to spend the holidays his way…by stalking deadly prey.
Three visitors are coming Ben’s way…A demon who will force  Ben to face his past, a ghost who will show Ben the present he could have, and a shifter  who will reveal the darkness that waits in Ben’s future. Unless Ben can change his ways, he may just turn into a real monster, one who can’t be saved by anyone or anything.
‘Tis the season…to be undead.
Ben’s redemption rests in the hands of the one woman he loved and lost—Simone Laurent.  If Ben is going to have a chance at being more than just the beast in the darkness, he has to prove himself to the lovely Simone.  A very hard task, considering that, once upon a Christmas Eve, Simone died in Ben’s arms…
Warning:
This book features one very tortured vampire, a sexy ghost from his past, and hot scenes designed to melt the winter snow. Plenty of action, adult situations, and steamy times are ahead. Happy holidays!

Excerpt
The fire flared again, and in the next instant, William was right in front of Ben.  The demon was fast. “You should be more grateful. You’re immortal. One of the most powerful vampires I’ve ever come across. But you’re going down a dark and dangerous path, a path you don’t want to take.”Ben offered him a grim smile. “It’s the only path for me.” Blood and death and demons. Yeah, that all seemed right.   “Once you wanted more.”  William grabbed Ben’s hand. The demon’s touch burned, and smoke rose from Ben’s skin. “You just need to remember that. Remember who you were before.”  Ben twisted his wrist, but, even with his vamp strength, he couldn’t break free from William’s hold.  “Let. Me. Go.” Or he’d be ripping the demon’s head off in the next five seconds. “I’m the first visitor of the night.”The first?“There will be three, and in the end, the choice will be yours.”  William glared at him. “But I’m telling you, asshole, make the right choice.”Ben flashed his fangs and went for the demon’s throat. He braced himself for the acid burn to come. He’d drunk from a demon before, and he knew that taste would be a real bitch.  Before his fangs could slice into William, flames erupted around them. Surroundedthem. And Ben knew he was about to die. His last thought…

Book Description:
The fate of the empire hangs on one slave breaking her silence…
As the Deizian Empire prepares for the upcoming wedding of Emperor Titus Sergius Flavus and Azruha, one mystery remains unsolved—the sudden and unexplained death of the former emperor. And as her wedding gift to Titus, Azurha wants to give him answers. She suspects an unknown poison was involved, and her search for the truth enlists two unlikely allies.
Modius Varro’s thirst for knowledge caused an uproar in Emona three years ago and exiled him to the border town of Madrena. But when Titus falls victim to the same poison, his expertise in medicine becomes essential in solving both the riddle of the former emperor’s death and finding a cure to save the current one. His search leads him to far reaches of the Alpirion realm, to an ancient culture shrouded in secrets, and into the arms of one slave who must break her silence to save the empire.

About the Author:
Growing up in small town Alabama, Crista relied on story-telling as a natural way for her to pass the time and keep her two younger sisters entertained.
She currently lives in the Audi-filled suburbs of Seattle with her husband and two children, maintaining her alter ego of mild-mannered physician by day while she continues to pursue writing on nights and weekends.
Just for laughs, here are some of the jobs she’s had in the past to pay the bills: barista, bartender, sommelier, stagehand, actress, morgue attendant, and autopsy assistant.
And she’s also a recovering LARPer. (She blames it on her crazy college days)

Character Interview: In a Wolf’s Eyes by A. Katie Rose

"What did you say this is for?" she asked me.
I bowed low. "It's a brief interview, Your Highness," I replied. "My master in Soudan pens essays regarding the royal family, and the aristocracy. No few wealthy merchants pay him handsomely for copies. It keeps them informed of potential opportunities to gain entrance in to Khalid's markets."
She watched me with suspicion, her fingers toying with an arrow from her quiver. Brilliant green eyes that angled upward at the corners narrowed slightly. A big cream-colored stallion, no controlling hand on his reins, sniffed me from the top of my head to my boots, then blew my hat off in a sharp snort. Ignoring me, it finally lowered its head and grazed.
Princess Ly'Tana came to a decision. "Very well," she said, settling her tiny skirt under her as she sat down upon a granite boulder. The arrow vanished into her quiver. In the distance, her warrior folk set up small tents and a busy camp. One extremely large fellow with shaggy black hair about his shoulders stood long, watching us, his shadow falling behind him with the close setting of the sun. I hoped he stayed there. He had a ferocious look about him.
"What do you want to know?" the Princess asked.
I cleared my throat. "Er, royal watchers say you ended your betrothal to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Broughton. Is this true?"
"Of course," she snapped, fair lips thinning in annoyance. "He's an evil snake who murdered an innocent horse. As well as hundreds of people."
"But, Your Highness. He's to be crowned High King."
She sniffed, waving her fingers arily. "And I'll be Queen of Kel'Halla. That's all Brutal wants - my country. That's why he wants my hand in marriage."
"Er - Brutal?"
"For goddess sake, boy." Princess Ly'Tana leaned her elbows on her knees to lean forward. "You know why he's called 'Brutal'."
"So the rumors are true then?"
"Yes, indeed. Your next High King is a monster who should be hung by his ankles in chains."
"May I quote Your Highness?"
Princess Ly'Tana suddenly giggled. "Sure. Whyever not?"
"Does Your Highness have a new love interest somewhere?"
She turned to glance over her bare shoulder, her lengths of red-gold hair sweeping across her lovely face. A swift finger tossed it from her eyes as she watched the big, ferocious fellow. "Indeed, I do," she replied softly.
"Isn't that The Bloody Wolf, Your Highness?"
Ly'Tana smiled as she turned back to me. Her fingers trailed across the griffin-hilt of her sword. "Some call him that."
"An escaped gladiator?"
"Perhaps."
"Again, may I use that in a quote?"
"Of course."
"Might one ask your future plans, Your Highness? May I inquire? Our readers will pay much for the information."
"Certainly," she replied sweetly.
That sword slid so quickly into her hand I blinked in dismay. It pointed straight at me. I gulped. And sweated.
"I tell you my plans, you tell your master and your master tells Brutal." Ly'Tana slowly stood, the point of her sword tilting my head back. I swallowed hard.
"Maybe I'll tell you," she mused. "But then I'll have to kill you."
"Then who will tell your side, Your Highness?"
She laughed. "You are a treat, dear boy. Maybe I can find a use for you, after all."
As quickly as it appeared, the deadly blade slid back into it sheath. I breathed a quick sigh of relief.
"This is my story and I'm sticking to it," she said. "I hate Brutal and I love The Wolf. Not even my father will keep us apart. Spread that word to your merchants. Inform the public that their High King will die upon my sword should he continue in his pursuit of my hand. Are your merchants wagering men?"
"Some are, Your Highness."
She glanced back over her shoulder, smiling gently. "Tell them to lay their bets. Inform them there will only be one winner."
"And who will that be?"
She grinned, her small teeth glinting in the late sunlight.
"The Bloody Wolf."
"Your Highness, just how did you come by this information?"
Her grin widened. "I've seen it foretold."
"How so, Your Highness?"
"In a wolf's eyes."

Thus begins the first novel of The Saga of the Black Wolf series.

Excerpt:

Driven by the panic that still crept forward to nag at the edges of my mind, I lurched onward for another hour. I hopped and skipped forward, keeping the fear and panic at bay by concentrating on not tripping over rocks or deadwood. I quickened my pace to that of a crippled beggar. If the Tongu came for me now, they would have no trouble whatsoever in overtaking me. I tried to increase my speed, hobbling and skipping along, but despite my care, stones and undergrowth constantly tripped me up. I set my jaw grimly, and stubbornly stumbled on.

The deathly quiet around me informed me they hunted me still. How close were they? The pervading evil only told me they were close, but not how close. They might be a mile behind, or only a few rods. I’d never know until their hounds nipped my heels. They knew I was naked and injured and had nowhere to go. With Wolf tamed and broken or dead (my mind shied away from that thought), they knew I was no match for them. I despised the fact that they were right.

Kel’Ratan and the rest of my warband lay only a few leagues to the east. No doubt, they were already hunting for me, worried, seeking me with every resource they had at their disposal. They would have no idea where Wolf might have taken me, but I knew they would have started a search of the forest. Wanting to estimate my position from the escarpment, I decided I was further from it than I previously thought. I struggled on.

Something passed between the sun and me. A bird? Whatever it was flit past the candle of my eye in less than a heartbeat. I glanced up, but saw nothing but sun and green. I stopped mid-hobble, scanning what I could see of the sky between the tops of the trees, looking, searching all around for another shadow. Could it be? Come back, come back, damn it.

Two grizzled hounds burst out from the undergrowth a few rods from me. Their lips skinned back from savage white teeth, but once again, in a fleet instant, I saw their muzzled tied shut. Whipping my crutch out from under my arm, I cocked it. Balancing my weight on my good right leg, I swung the crutch, now a heavy club. I had chosen well. Solid oak and still green, it was as hard as iron. The hound, a few strides ahead of its mate, leaped toward me. My club caught the beast squarely on the side of its head. Skull crunched under the impact. I had no time to consider its death, when the other hound also leaped, snarling voiceless.

My warrior instincts and training took over. As in swordplay, rather than meet it head on, I melted to the side. My weight, solid on my right leg, shifted me to my right, where I held the club. The hound’s leap took him past me, but he wheeled. Almost mid-jump, he turned, his hind legs thrusting him forward, digging furrows in the dirt. My club, on its returning swing, caught the hound under the jaw. I hit him hard enough to snap him backward. He flipped up and back, hitting the ground hard on his spine and tail.

I didn’t look to see if I killed him. I knew the Tongu would run right behind their hellhounds. I readied myself, my stout club, undamaged by the two hard impacts, raised high.

They did not disappoint me. Three of them burst out from under the trees, their tattooed faces and scarred throats as familiar as old friends. Undaunted by my readiness and my club, they rushed at me. They held no weapons in their hands. So they still wanted me alive.
Come on, big boy. Let’s dance.

The first one ducked my swing, but I still hit him on the shoulder rather than his head I aimed at. He staggered to the side, passing me by. My returning blow caught the second in the ribs. His choked off wheeze told me I did some real damage. I set myself to receive the third when my left leg failed me utterly.

I needed two sound legs with which to fight. When I instinctively sought to balance on both legs to bring my club around to swing at the third Tongu, running a few feet behind his brothers, my left leg collapsed under me. My wild swing missed the Tongu completely. His arm around my waist finished what my treacherous left leg started. I went down, the Tongu’s foul smelling, hissing body on top of mine.

The impact knocked the wind from me. Gasping for much needed breath, I hit him, hard, on the ear with my fist. History surely repeats itself, for the Tongu hissed in pain and struck me a wicked blow across the face.

Half-stunned and sick with pain, I struggled, kicking upward with my knee, seeking his soft genitals. I hit only his rock hard thigh instead. He grunted, his dark evil eyes peering down at me, his triumphant grin white in his tanned face. He pinned me solidly, my wrists hard against the damp earth and dead leaves. I lost my grip on my club.

“We got you now, bitch,” he hissed, his foul breath reeking in my nostrils.

I conjured saliva into my dry mouth and spit.

As in my archery, my aim was true. Squarely into his leering right eye, my spit hit. His face contorted into a mask of rage and hate. This time his fist almost made me lose consciousness.
Darkness filled my sight. No. Wait. My eyes, open wide, still contained vision. The darkness filled the forest. Beyond the Tongu’s foul, grinning face, something impossibly huge blocked the sun, casting all into shadow. A deep, resonant sound, never before heard by a living human being, roared into the evil silence. Rage. Hate. Fury. None of those words could describe the daemonic sound that filled the forest. The earth shook under the sheer magnitude of that sound. I jerked my head, tossing my hair from my eyes.

The Tongu’s evil eyes widened in sudden frantic panic. His leering mouth bowed down in horror. Blood drained from his darkly tanned skin, leaving his flesh paler than pale. He began to turn, slow, too slow, to face this new peril. His hands released mine as he made to boost himself off me, to throw himself off me. To escape.

A huge eagle’s claw, with talons the length of a man’s hand and sharp enough to gut a dragon reached down. It scooped him up, circled his torso, lifted him from me with all the effort a man might use to lift a mug of ale. So precise did those deadly talons seize him, I felt no touch of those claws on my bare belly at all.

Devil’s eyes. Daemon’s eyes. Yellow and black. With the dark shadows behind, the devil’s eyes glowed yellow and black. For surely hell herself had vomited up this monster.
How can a man with no voice scream? Yet scream he did. His black eyes rolled back into his head, revealing the whites. The Tongu struggled, pushing against the immense hand that held him fast in its deadly grip. Yet his struggles were those of a mouse caught within the jaws of the cat. A savage raptor beak the size of a horse’s head bent down –

- Bar bit deep into the Tongu’s neck.

As I might have torn off a chunk of meat with my teeth, he ripped the man’s body in half. The Tongu’s heart and brain lived for a moment longer than he did. His hissing, wailing scream as Bar tossed the two pieces of the man’s corpse into the brush died away and was lost.

Catlike, he spun. His tail whipped the air above me, his lion hind legs digging deep furrows into the loamy forest soil to either side of me. I half sat up in time to see the other two Tongu bolt. One reached the safety of the trees. The other….

Bar pounced on him. Dirt and dead leaves flew about me in a shower as he lunged after the fleeing assassin. This one had no time to scream. Bar’s eagle front foot caught the Tongue by the shoulder, ripping down, taking off not only the shoulder, but sheared deep into his torso. His raptor’s beak tore the man’s head off. Shaking his foot as a person might shake water off his hand, Bar discarded the corpse that caught on his wicked talons. As hardened as I was by war, battle and violence, my gut lurched at the sight of both men’s ravaged corpses. While Bar accompanied me in battle, protected me from enemies, guarded my back, I had never seen him kill before with such ruthlessness, such a savage viciousness.

He still wasn’t satisfied. The hound I injured hobbled on three legs, eerily whining and chuffing, followed after his surviving master into the forest. Bar’s single swipe cut the dog in half, red blood fountaining high to splash redly on a nearby tree trunk.

Never before had I ever been afraid of my griffin. Never in all our years together had I ever felt in any danger from him. Never before had I looked at my friend and all but pissed myself.

When he wheeled about to face me, streaked with thick dark blood over his eagle’s beak, down his feathered mane, his raised right claw oozing gore, my empty bladder loosened. A raw, primitive terror ran through me. The terror a defenseless human felt when faced with a furious predator, a predator that killed easily and with little effort. The red gore, his lifted razor-sharp talons, failed to frighten me. ‘Twas his eyes that caused my gut to lurch in sudden panic, caused my throat to close and shut off all breath. His raptor eyes, those daemon eyes, filled with such a lust for blood, for human blood, brought out the primordial fear in me.

He blinked. In that instant, Bar returned to sanity. I suddenly saw my friend in those awful black and yellow daemon eyes. Bar’s concern, worry and panic over my safety returned with such a wash of love I began to cry. I flung my arms about his feathered neck, weeping with unashamed relief. My body shook uncontrollably, delayed reactions from the pain, the panic, the trauma of my ordeal bringing out a flurry of the shakes.

Sitting down on his lion haunches, Bar held me close to him, his taloned right foot circling my back, his feathered head bowed over my shoulder. The blood of his victims dripped down over my naked body, but I didn’t care. Sharp chirps and hisses told me of his anxiety and worry. When neither Wolf nor I arrived at the monastery, he flew in all directions since dawn, searching for me.

His immense presence, his soft fur-feather mane scenting of blood, musty earth and sweet air, his huge body wrapped about mine brought with them some measure of quiet to my jangled nerves. My tears wetted his mane, dripping from a white feather to the ground below. I sniffled, my nostrils sucking in stray lion hairs. I sneezed. Choking on tears and snorted laughter, I finally grew some sense and straightened.

Leaning against his sturdy shoulder, I pulled my hair back from my face and looked into his predatory tawny eyes.

“What kept you?”

Interview with Braxton A Cosby

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
Well, I’m an award-winning novelist that works full time as a physical therapist right outside of Atlanta, GA. I am married with three lovely girls who are the source of my life right now. They inspire me to be a better man and to create as much original content as possible. Kid’s minds are so amazing and they are always trying to do something else that trumps the last thing. This genre of writing, Young Adult, was inspired by just watching and learning from young people. I love the power of imagination and the boundless freedom that comes with it. Young people are becoming more and more accepting and receptive to new ideas and lack the rigidity of older folks, so they are willing to read something off the cuff.
What is it about the paranormal that fascinates you so much?
I think people are drawn to it because it’s relatively new from a narrative perspective. Now, people have definitely watered it down and “kicked the dead horse” with all the stories branching from it. But actually, Dracula and his monster goons have been around for quite some time. People brought it back mainstream when they gave us characters that showed a more human side to them, rather than just mindless beings.
What inspired you to write this book?
I wanted to find another venue that explored the power of spiritual gifting, without all the religious handcuffing and legality that pushes people away. Everyone talks about supernatural powers, but no one really tapped into it like my novel The School of Ministry does. Imagine being able to see demons in the spiritual realm by just closing your eyes, or manipulating objects and people by just speaking. Once I worked out the framework for the spiritual gifts, I had to create a story that included action elements and set pieces that felt epic. The creative elements took over from there.
Please tell us about your latest release.
The School of Ministry: The Windgate is the first of a five book series that follows the exploits of a young man named Ziv who is kidnapped by a secret society that lobbies his help to defend the weak and hunt down evil. In exchange for his assistance, they will help him find his friend (long lost love interest named Stephanie) who has recently gone missing. From there on, an epic tale of redemption, discovery, purpose and identity is birthed. There’s a wonderful double love triangle as well that keeps readers enthralled.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
Francis was a great character to write. I wanted to be him by the end of the story. He had to be very cool, sexy, mysterious, and sinister, while still appealing to the reader. The balance between him and Jaythan was paramount in making both of their characters work within the story. Ziv is of course the main character and since the story is told from his perspective, you had to love him too. And ultimately you do, but Francis came off more polarizing than I expected.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
It’s actually a scene that was added late to make the continuum of the story make sense. In the editing process, there are moments where you as the writer realize that timelines are being challenged. My editor pointed this out to me and I needed to have a sequence that added fluidity to the story, without making it seem like filler. There is an extra training scene with Ziv, Francis, and Jaythan that takes place where they are working with Maxwell and you get a sense of how powerful Ziv can really be if he learns how to focus his gift. I made up the challenge and I didn’t know how or would play out or who would win, until the very end. The conclusion of the scene made sense and weaved in perfectly.
Can you tell readers a little bit about the world building in the book/series? How does this world differ from our normal world?
World building is my favorite thing. It takes time, especially in a series because you have to envision the world over an extended period. I ask myself questions like: “Do it change? Is there war? Will the characters move to other venues” What is the relevance of the changes if any?” The Windgate follows the boys through different set pieces where the environments are very different and it is important for the reader to feel what they feel (Or at least Ziv) as the changes take place. So the detail has to be there, but knock enough to make you overdoes on it and make you say “get on with it already.” The spiritual aspect of the world building doesn’t really come into play until later novels.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
This is first book of the five book series, but I am cognizant that readers will pick up later books without reading the first or second ones. I feel that each book will be a novel of it’s own, but readers who love the story will decided to go back eventually to tie together different ends. I like to think that each book represents a television season, with chapters being episodes.
Do you write in different genres?
It varies a little. Both series Are Young Adult, but they tight rope the line of New Adult, Romance, Sci-fi and Mystical Visionary.
What was the last amazing book you read?
I really like with Marie Lu has done with Legend and of course what Veronica Roth is doing with the Divergent series. Both books pull you in to different worlds and have characters that you can relate to.
Where is your favorite place to read?
Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot? Anywhere my kids are no around. LOL. But I just love to get in a spot where there is quite. Sometimes it’s the bookstores and libraries, or maybe even when I’m on vacation. Reading by the ocean is like paradise to my senses.
What can readers expect next from you?
More and more good, original, creative and thought provoking stories. As soon as I feel like I am getting conventional or predictable, I immediately throw in a monkey wrench or two to keep you guessing. That way, neither of us can get bored.

Gut Feelings— Excerpt from "Portents" by Shanyn Hosier
"How does it work?" Amanda pressed, keen to learn about the most intriguing talent of the group.Toby shrugged, then grimaced, struggling to clear his mouth of sticky powdered sugar-coated donut paste. He took a gulp of coffee to help wash it down. "Truth is, nobody knows a damn thing about it, least of all me," he said, then cleared his throat.Disappointed, Amanda nodded, sinking lower into the vinyl booth."Mostly, it's a feeling in my gut," Toby continued, absently rubbing his taut abdomen, and Amanda perked up. "Nothin' more than that. It's up to me to figure out what it means in context, which isn't always easy.""So, gut instincts are real?" No gazing into crystal balls? No tarot cards? No trancelike states?"Dok says I have an especially intuitive enteric nervous system, yeah," he said. "'Visceral perception,' he calls it. I just get this feeling… like a strong urge… maybe to do something, or go somewhere, or stop—" He shrugged his shoulders again, took another drink of coffee. "Usually, that's all it is.""Usually?"He squinted in the sunbeam shining through the window onto their table. "Sometimes it's more. A vision—no more than a flash, really.""Of what?" Amanda asked, edge-of-her-seat fascinated."An alternate reality, according to Dok," he replied. "Or a parallel universe, depending on your definition."Amanda shook her head, confused. "Not the future?"Toby took another sip of coffee. "Not technically. But if I see it—whatever it is, and it's usually pretty big if it's visual—it comes to pass…"

Did you know humans have more than one brain? And no, it's not the "male" one we all joke about.
Scientists regard our enteric nervous system—comprised of 100 million neurons lining our gut (which is more than the spinal cord or peripheral nervous system)—to be a "second" brain. It controls our gut's behavior independently of our noggins; in fact, 90% of the vagus (internal organ) nerve carries info FROM the gut TO the brain, not vice versa.
Those tummy "butterflies" you've felt are absolutely real! Neurogastroenterologists (yeah, it's an actual discipline) believe our emotional state is likely influenced by our guts. They've recently discovered 95% of the body's serotonin is kept in the bowel, not the brain. No wonder antidepressant drugs can often trigger serious GI issues as side effects (check out this article from ScientificAmerican.com for more info).
It's no wonder we all talk about "gut" feelings and "gut" instincts. And research has shown it's a good idea to pay attention to them. Go with your gut—quick decisions are statistically shown to be better than those made after long periods of thought (check out this article on livescience.com for more about this study). You think you're guessing, but your brain and visual systems pick up clues you're not aware of. Your gut-influenced emotions know the right answer before you realize it's the right answer, and well before you can consciously explain why (check out this article from ExperienceLife.com for more about gut instincts).
After reading this research and more, I knew just how to make Toby's paranormal gift of "kinda-sorta" seeing the future work. He just listens to his gut—and it's never wrong.

When all signs point to trouble ahead, can Amanda steer clear of disaster?

PortentsAmanda Ryder V.I. Book 2Shanyn Hosier
When all signs point to trouble, can Amanda steer clear of disaster?
Amanda Ryder's determined never to fail her coven again. Next time, she won't hesitate to pull the trigger to defend her friends. If only they'd trust her enough to let her set foot outside the Academy…
Frustrated and itching to prove herself, Amanda snags her first Academy mission: she and Toby Laboyteaux, fellow teen witch who "kinda sorta sees the future," must work together to track down a local swamp monster stirring up trouble in the sticks. But overturned suburban garbage cans and blurry tabloid pictures aren't the only problems—strained relationships with her new colleagues, a growing guilt-complex, and the waxing moon all add to Amanda's stress. Add to that the pressure of being hunted by a psychic psychopath, and Amanda's got plenty on her mind.
Meanwhile, Hamilton Nash swears Marian Dupree and her Academy of bumbling do-gooders have thwarted his plans for the last time. Convinced Amanda's the subject of his mother's recent prophecy and the key to his future success, he redoubles his efforts to obtain the mystery girl. But when Amanda proves too slippery a quarry, Nash sets his sights on the next best thing. When a valuable member of the Academy coven is kidnapped, Amanda and her friends are in a race against time. Is a tragic future destined to come to pass?

Since Lucifer claimed victory at Armageddon, demons, angels, and humans have coexisted in uneasy harmony. Those with waning magic are trained to maintain peace and order. But hostilities are never far from erupting…
After years of denying her abilities, Noon Onyx, the first woman in history to wield waning magic, has embraced her power. She’s won the right to compete in the prestigious Laurel Crown Race—an event that will not only earn her the respect of her peers but also, if she wins, the right to control her future.                           However, Noon’s task is nearly impossible: retrieve the White Heart of Justice, a mythical sword that disappeared hundreds of years ago. The sword is rumored to be hidden in a dangerous region of Halja that she is unlikely to return from. But Noon’s life isn’t the only thing hanging in the balance. The sword holds an awesome power that, in the wrong hands, could reboot the apocalypse—and Noon is the only one who can prevent Armageddon from starting again…

Interview Giveaway with KA Young

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
Sure, I'm at homeschooling mom of three amazing children and creativity is where our learning has always blossomed most.  Paranormal is so much fun, there really aren't any boundaries when it comes to this genre and I suppose that is why I love it so.  You simply can open your mind and allow the creativity to flow through your fingertips.
What inspired you to write this book?
I knew by the third book in my Nephilim Warrior Series (Blood Kiss) that Elise's character deserved her own series. So I toyed with it for a bit suddenly The Elise Michaels Series was born.
Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
I truly adore writing from Elise's (From Coven) point of view. She's fun, energetic and has a take me as I am kind of attitude toward life.  Being able to crawl inside the skin of different characters and be them for several hours each day an amazing gift.
What is your favorite scene from the book? Could you share a little bit of it, without spoilers of course?
The tower scene is hands down my favorite, its full of passion, intensity and an incredibly hot sorcerer.
What is the most interesting thing you have physically done for book related research purposes?
I would say that visiting and spending time in cemeteries at night as research for the next book in this series to be quite interesting.  I also realized that inside my own head is way more frightening than anything that I may find while visiting one. LOL
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
There are so many things that I enjoy doing when I have the time.  Painting and photography are two of them, traveling would be another.  I'm also content simply sitting on a beach with my toes in the sand while engrossed in an amazing read with the sound of crashing waves in the background, ah pure bliss.
What was the last amazing book you read?
That would be the latest release in the Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones, her style of writing in right up my alley.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
Right now being temperatures have chilled off a bit, my favorite reading spot is in my living room curled up in the recliner with a soft blanket enjoying the crackling sounds coming from a roaring fire in the fireplace.
What can readers expect next from you?
I'm working on the first book in my new YA series Valkyrie Diaries.  You can find an unofficial blurb located on my website.
Where can readers find you on the web?
