Public Sex At Lake Mead; 2013 Great American Fiction Contest; Nasty Gay Men in Coffee Shops

When I was writing "The Vegas Shark," the next book in my bad boy billionaire series, I had to do some research for Lake Mead for a scene that's probably one of the most pathetic and vicious I've ever written. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I can say it has something to do with sex in public, public nudity, and something most people would never do to their worst enemy.

And while I was researching information for Lake Mead, I came across an interesting article about sex in public withou...

Adding Explicit Sex Scenes to Young Adult Novels...

When I first heard about explicit sex scenes being added to Young Adult novels I can't deny I wasn't curious...from an erotic writer's POV. As a reader, I can say with all honestly I have no interest in reading Young Adult books with explicit sex scenes that are just there for the sake of being there.

However, last year three of my favorite novels were YA and one did have a sex scene in it that I thought worked with the storyline. I reviewed them all and posted about them on this blog. But the...

F. Scott Fitzgerald in Drag: Photo Surfaces

According to this article, a photo of F. Scott Fitzgerald in full drag recently surfaced. Of course too interesting not to post about.

Fitzgerald was then performing a play called "The Evil Eye," which he also wrote the lyrics for, with a musical-comedy troupe known as the Princeton Triangle Club.

The article doesn't get into anything much deeper than what I've posted above. But this sort of thing was quite accepted in those days, especially in all boys schools where Shakespeare was perfo...

Midwest Book Review for "Fifty Writers on Fifty Shades of Grey"

Wisconsin Bookwatch recently reviewed a book I'm in, "Fifty Writers on Fifty Shades of Grey," edited by Lori Perkins and pubbed by BellaBooks. Here's a link. You have to scroll down to the Literary Studies section on this page.

And here's the quote:

'Fifty Shades of Grey' has proved to be its own little revolution in fiction. "Fifty Writers on Fifty Shades of Grey" is a collection of writers discussing the success and place in popular culture E. L. James recently famous work. Writers analyze J...

True Colorz: Web Site for YA LGBT Fiction

I found a new web site that's geared for YA LGBT fiction and wanted to link to it. One, because I don't think there are many out there. Two, because I'm posting something about YA fiction in general later this week and I thought it would be interesting to make reference to this site. My post will deal more with sex in YA books...and whether or not it should be there at all. And three, because it reminds me of Cyndi Lauper, and I love all things Cyndi Lauper.

I've also read a few of the author...

Blog Hop: The Next Big Thing and The Vegas Shark

The Blog Hop in the title of this post, The Next Big Thing, has nothing to do with the size of body parts. It's a chain of authors talking about the books on which they are currently working. From what I gather, it's not genre specific and all kinds of authors are participating.

Unfortunately, I asked three different authors if they were interested and none got back to me. No problem. I understand that. We're all busy and it's understandable. But I decided to do it because things like this ac...

"A Life Filled With Awesome Love" Free Excerpt From Cowboy Love Story

I've been wanting to post an unpublished Free excerpt from A Life Filled with Awesome Love since before the holidays but haven't had time. Here it is below. You can check out the other free excerpt at ARe, and read the entire description as well.

In the most basic sense, it's a vintage gay love story set in 1959 when there was no such thing as gay. It's also one of my longer cowboy short stories, about 12,000 words.

Then, in the next letter, O’Dell sent a small black and white phot...

Most Popular Resolutions

This list of the most popular resolutions comes from a .gov web site. I tend to like .gov, and I think you can use any photo that comes from the government because it's public domain...I read that somewhere, but don't quote me and always make sure you are free to use any photo you post on a blog. If it doesn't say so, don't use it. It seems every artsy type with an iPhone these days is looking to make a buck with their mediocre (bad) photos and you don't want to take any chances. Th...

2012: 50 Gays Who Came Out This Year

It seems that 2012 was a big year for gays coming out, at least for the following 50 people. Some didn't surprise me too much. I'd either already figured or heard through the proverbial grapevine. Others did make me stop and think.

As a rule, I'm not fond of this huge pressure we tend to put on gay people to come out. I think that's a personal thing, and no one should be forced or intimidated to come out. Privacy is also a huge concern nowadays with social media, even if yo...

Top Ten LGBT Stories of 2012; Don't Call Me Queer

Here's a list of some top ten LGBT news worthy items from 2012.

You can read the article here.

I posted about a few myself, like the Frank Ocean story, which focused on gay rappers breaking stereotypes. As a huge fan of rap music, I follow this sort of thing with interest all the time.

R&B artist Frank Ocean, best known as part of the hip-hop collective Odd Future, made waves in the music world when he used a Tumblr post to reveal that his first love was another man. While the critically a...
