College Tennis Star's Coming Out Story; Why Gay Pride Month?; Ryan Field Books

College Tennis Star's Coming Out Story

While I was reading that ridiculously long, insulting blog post by JK Rowling with regard to her transphobic opinions, I noticed that Rowling made the same mistake that most straight people make. They assume to know information about LGBTQ+ people, when in reality that's not possible. And it's not possible because we don't even know how many LGBTQ+ people are still hiding in the closet.

So I'm always thrilled to read another coming out story like this.

In a po...

No 'Gone with the Wind' Southern Romanticizing in My Books

I'm sure most people have heard that HBO pulled the movie 'Gone with the Wind' from their list and a lot of people are thrilled about this, and a lot are livid.

I'm thrilled. I couldn't stand that movie, or the book. It's the epitome of straight white privilege and everything that's ever made me cringe. I never liked it, or anything that resembles it.

And this is why when I set my book, 'Once Upon a Castle,' in the south, I made a point of ...

Daniel Radcliffe Takes on JK Rowling's Transphobic Tweets

After JK Rowling posted her transphobic tweets, Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, posted his own tweets in support of transgender people. And he was not shy about going up against powerhouse JK Rowling.

“Transgender women are women,” Radcliffe wrote in an essay posted to the website of the Trevor Project, a non-profit dedicated to crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ people. “Any statement to the contrary erases the ident...

The Pain of Canceled Pride Celebrations; Two Years In Prison For Gay Sex; Ryan Field Books

The Pain of Canceled Pride Celebrations

Let's face it, we only get one month out of the year to celebrate all the shit we've gone through. And in many cases, are still going through. I don't think we've even begun to speculate on how many LGBTQ+ people there are out there because so many are still in the closet. I think Pride events help those people the most. Just seeing them happen offers encouragement. But I guess we won't be seeing anything like that this year. It's going to be a sad year for...

JK Rowling's Anti-Transgender Tweets

I saw these Tweets by Rowling last night and I have to admit even I was stunned. And I have seen a great deal happen on Twitter over the years. But this was unreal. It's hard to believe anyone could be this clueless and so filled with hate.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has unleashed a string of anti-trans tweets today, making it crystal clear that she identifies with a fringe group of “feminists” who oppose transgender rights.

She hurt a lot of Stans with th...

Karamo Brown Thinks Gay White Men Have Privilege

Karamo Brown does make a valid point in one sense when he mentions racism in the gay community. I have seen racism in the gay community and I've even posted about it here. However, it's not possible for gay white men to have privilege.

You cannot be gay and be privileged. If you are gay, the moment you are born you enter into a world where you will always deal with discrimination, shame, and hate. I've been posting links to these things for years no...

Gay Film Critic David Rooney Reflects; Straight White Influencer Supports Black Lives Matter With Shirtless Selfie and Rainbow Flag: Ryan Field Books

Gay Film Critic David Rooney Reflects

I think we are finally reaching that point in our culture...gay culture...where we can actually reflect on a few things.

David Rooney muses on three decades as a gay reviewer — from toxic stereotypes and the ubiquitous "f-word" to the thrill of Almodóvar and New Queer Cinema, Oscar's 'Brokeback Mountain' burn to the 'Moonlight' milestone and beyond.
Here's the link to read it in full. He goes into a lot more detail, and frankly I don't agree with much he has to...

Authors You Need to Learn How To Write Dialogue Tags

There is this painful misconception out there that you can do whatever you like when you're writing a book and it's going to be okay. Of course sometimes you might get lucky, but most of the time if you ignore all the most basic rules of writing you'll come off looking like an amateur. I have no reason to lie about this. I didn't make this up myself. I learned it and I studied it so I wouldn't look like an amateur.

With that said, I'm linking to...

"Glee's" Lea Michelle's Terrible Behavior and Her Apology

When I saw this trending I honestly was not shocked. I'm not surprised it's coming out now either. They usually wait a certain amount of time before they started telling all the secrets of what happened behind the scenes.

Glee actress/singer Lea Michele has become the center of a growing blowback from her former co-stars this week.

And it's getting vicious.

You can read more, here

Lea Michelle has also issued a statement, here.  This is par...

Celebrate Pride Month On Film

Thanks to the coronavirus we can't celebrate Pride month this year in person anywhere, but we can celebrate in other ways. It's just unfortunate that while the rest of the responsible adult citizens in the US are paying attention to the state and national COVID guidelines, and practicing social distancing, there's another segment of the population ignoring all the most fundamental rules of a pandemic.

Movies are no substitute for a rainbow-drenched parade. But they ca...
