Last night the water stopped coming out of our faucets. It was an odd and very worrisome moment. It still is. Repair person is here now. His name is John and he charges a lot of money just to come out here, and even more every hour he is here. I pray it's a short visit with a quick fix. Goodbye Wii dreams. Goodbye unexpected tax return. Wah.

mice, advice, a good book, and your opinion

1. Mice

Yesterday morning and again today, our cats have delivered a dead mouse to us. What disturbs me most is that these are indoor cats. I am living with vermin. And murderers.

2. Can you help?
My son has been inspired by American Idol and wants to sing and learn the guitar. If anyone has any tips at all on how to help a somewhat tone-deaf 10-year old how to get on key, I would be extremely grateful. He doesn't seem to be able to tell he's off key and gets frustrated when I try to help.

Work and Wimpy

I think if I add up the number of hours I've already spent on my current freelance project, and then divide it by how much I'll be getting paid, I bet it's less than $5/hour. Oh well. This is my first biography and I'm learning a ton. Unfortunately, one of the things I've learned is that when you write a biography, you are bound to come across stuff about the person that you wish you didn't know. I think when I hand this sucker in, I'm going to request a mind erase.

Finding home

This weekend, I found myself wandering the streets of my old neighborhood with my son, who was last there when he was four years old. Our first stop was at our neighborhood bookstore. When E was little, his favorite thing to do was climb the stairs to the children's room, choose a book from the spinning rack of paperback picture books, and pull himself into the huge leather chair in the corner. What's left of Spike:



See that tiny little ball slightly off center to the right? I believe that is the core of Spike—what's left of the hard snowball I made to get her going. I think today it will slowly slip into the last pile of snow. I'll look again this afternoon.
