Hi! I'm the author of Still A Work In Progress, Read Between The Lines, Living With Jackie Chan, See You At Harry's, Pearl, Jumping Off Swings, and Lessons From A Dead Girl. I'm available for school, library and book club visits either in person or via skype. For more info, please visit www.joknowles.com Thanks! :-)

This summer I spent a week volunteering with a group of hard-working teens and adults. We worked on various projects such as building a home with Habitat for Humanity, and working on landscaping for transitional housing facilities and women's shelters.

Every morning, we were reminded to think about the opportunities that came our way throughout the day: an opportunity to learn a new skill, even... Read more of this blog post »

“We only hate what we don't understand.”
Jo Knowles, Lessons from a Dead Girl

“I have this friend, Jake," Mr. Mitchell says, sitting on the edge of his desk. "One day, I needed a favor. It wasn't a big favor, but I called him and told him I needed something. Know what he said?"
We shake our heads.
"He said, 'Sure.' Before he eve knew what i was going to ask him. You know why?"
We shake our heads again.
"Because he trusted me not to ask him to do something he couldn't or wouldn't want to do. He knew that whatever i asked for, he would help me simply because he was my friend and I needed help. That's true friendship.”
Jo Knowles, Lessons from a Dead Girl

“I'm lying in my room listening to the birds outside. I used to think they sang because they were happy. But then I learned on a nature show they're really showing off. Trying to lure in some other bird so they can mate with it. Or let the other birds know not to get too close to their turf. I wish I never watched that show, because now all I think about is what those pretty sounds mean. And how they're not pretty at all.”
Jo Knowles, Jumping Off Swings

Thanks for adding me. I'm finally getting a chance to read your book. (I had to return the copy I took out at the library last month because I didn't have time to read it.) I just ordered myself a copy from amazon.com. ;)
