And now Winter has taken my power

Greetings from the town library.

We lost power last night at 6:00 and according to the power company we may not get it back until...

SATURDAY?!?!?!?!?!?

Oh help.

If you need me, our phone still works.

Crap.

One more time!

Yesterday my son convinced me to drive to Boston for one more go at the Harry Potter Exhibit at the Museum of Science.

Yup, I'm crazy. Five hours of driving must elevate me to some sort of new Harry Potter fan status but I'm not sure I want to know what that status would be. ;-)

My sister and her family are going to meet us there so it's going to be a lovely day.

I think this ranks as a nice way to start school vacation, don't you? Especially since I met freelance deadline number one over the w...

Five words for Friday Five & Guess How Old My Pants Are

1. Deadline
I have many freelance deadlines in the next few weeks. Many. And now I understand why they call it deadline because seriously, the sleep deprivation and stress are taking years off my life. I wish I could say these deadlines are for fancy things like novels, but they are not. However, they do involve income (well, except for one), so... I'm grateful.

2. Supper
Recently [info:] cynthialord mentioned supper in one of her posts. And then today [info:] wordsrmylife used it in her post, too. Supper. It's...

*waves*

Still stuck on the too-fast treadmill...

But I wanted to introduce you all to Allan Stratton who is now on LJ! ( [info:] allanstratton ).

Allan is a YA author and a Printz honor winner! :-) I met Allan at the NCTE/ALAN conference this year and he is really nice. Also, we are in the same agent family.

His Web site: http://www.allanstratton.com/

I hope you'll welcome Allan to the fold and consider adding him to your friends list. Tell him I sent you! ;-) Thanks!

Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-chan-ges...

My son has been home sick for the past two days and now we are on day three. He's better, but not well enough to go back. So, he's missing the school Valentine's party which is sad. And, he's really sick of being stuck home with me, which is also sad, but in a different way.

He is changing too fast. He is almost as tall as me. Wants to be included now, when I order him clothes. Makes funny comments about choices, such as, "No, Mom. Those are so 'pants on the ground.'"

He's stepping into that a...

Maybe there really are no words to describe certain feelings

Yesterday I went to the Eric Carle Museum to hear my former students read from their mentor projects. I had these students in fall '08. We've been pretty good at keeping in touch, but I didn't know what pieces they chose to pursue with their mentors. It was a thrill to discover that 9 out of the 12 projects were started in our class.

The students read beautifully, with care and deep consideration. Sitting in the audience, you could feel how alive and precious the characters had become to each...
