Quick Check in for Spike

Hi all,

Running a bunch of errands this a.m. but wanted you to know as of 7:26 a.m. there is a little ball left from Spike's base/bum. However, temps are set to rise to 58º today, so this could be it. I'll take a photo as soon as I get back!

I went to an SCBWI event at the Eric Carle Museum on Saturday and it was fantastic. jeannineatkins has a wonderful overview on her blog. Spike is still standing!

Poor spike had a cloudy, dreary day yesterday. She endured snowflakes the size of dimes, freezing rain, and then showers. Yet still, she sits/slumps.

It's pretty dreary here again today. I think Spike is loosing her sun goddess status. Or maybe I need to make more offerings to her. I know there are two boxes of Girl Scout cookies in the freezer...

Nearly there! Thankful Thursday edition

Yesterday, I talked with my editor about putting the finishing touches on Pearl. I can't believe this is it! Boy. Long road.

It's such an amazing gift to have those final talks with an editor about last-minute changes. Suddenly, you feel the book really isn't yours anymore. Someone else has become invested in it. Loves it. No arms! :( Poor Spike. I think she's some sort of sun goddess. Ever since her creation, we've had unbelievably warm and sunny days. Just beautiful. Thank you, Spike!!

I've gotta say, I thought you early March guessers were nuts (though I definitely appreciated your optimism), but we might have an early winner after all! :-)

DONE-ish and The Fall of Spike Contest

Hello! I missed you! Last Tuesday I pressed the pause button on my life as it was spinning out of control and drove to a friend's house where no freelance work was allowed: Only my manuscript which I've been revising for nearly a year.

And...

I *nearly* finished! Just a few more tweaks to make and I'll be able to hand it in. Thank you thank you thank you blackholly , libba_bray , robinwasserman and cassandraclare for being so amazingly supportive and fun and hard-working.

I'll be back

The snowstorm, outage, etc. has left me scrambling and hopelessly behind on everything. I met one more deadline over the weekend, but I'm still woefully...lost.

Tomorrow, I leave for a mini writing retreat and am hoping to catch up then.

In the meantime, here is a tiny bit of joy that came from the snowfall. I think I'll call her Spike.
