a painting and a poem

amarylis1a

i gift my brush painting teacher an amaryllis each

year. this year, i had chosen one that was a deep

rich crimson. this is my attempt at its portrait. =)

i used the same one and a half shuen paper i had

used for blobby cat with quasi-disastrous results.

the flower blobbed out more than i wanted in much

of the petal area, so it's an imperfect painting (in my

critical mind). but i still quite like it.

my art show just ended today. i sold quite a few
cards as well as a hummingbird painting...

art show 2010

it would appear that everything in my life
is happening All at Once. i'm eyeball deep
in first round of edits for The Sequel, which
will be released in early 2011! i'm very very
excited to be leaping back into the novel–which
i love–to be working with fantabulous editor
again to improve it. (nevermind when i first
received my global notes and mentally curled
up on the floor in fetal position crying like a baby.
didn't actually happen because i don't have time
for such luxuries, the floor is cold and i ...

art show!

gallery21

all san diegans are cordially invited to the

chinese brush painting society's art show.

i can't believe it's just next week–i'm very

excited, especially since i'll be selling my cards

for the first time this year. they have been well

received and i hope people enjoy them!

i finished The Glass of Time, which i enjoyed,
but didn't find as compelling as cox's debut,
The Meaning of Night. probably because i found
the first protagonist more interesting as well
as the storyline. having said that, i...

the total tragedy of a girl named hamlet by erin dionne

hamlet

today, i'm featuring erin's second novel out!

don't you love that title and cover?

Book Summary:

Hamlet Kennedy just wants to be your average, happy,
vanilla eighth grader. But with Shakespearean scholar parents
who dress in Elizabethan regalia and generally go about in
public as if it were the sixteenth century, that's not terribly easy.
It gets worse when they decide that Hamlet's genius sevenyear-
old sister will attend middle school with her– and even worse
when the Shakespeare project is...
