In The Air Tonight release day!!!

Mace and Paige are here – and Cael and Vivi too!!!

IN THE AIR TONIGHT

With danger closing in, all they have is each other.

Haunted by a mission he barely survived, Delta Force operative Mace Stevens still carries a soldier's burden. Running a small bar in upstate New York, he remains a stone cold warrior who guards dangerous secrets and stays ready for anything. Anything except beautiful, vulnerable Paige Grayson, who shows up at his door, demanding answers about her heroic stepbrother's death under his command.

Paige bears burdens, too. She's plagued by demons unleashed by an older brother who committed mass murder before her eyes. But here in this snowy haven with Mace, she almost feels safe from the menacing promises of her insane sibling. As a nurse whose hands can read the deepest thoughts of anyone she touches, Paige knows Mace needs her as desperately as she needs him. And when a faceless killer begins unleashing fresh terror, Mace proves just how far he will go to save the woman who means everything to him.

I want to thank everyone who's been talking about and tweeting about and facebooking about this series and this book – your support means the world to me.  I've always said that I write to pay it forward, because romance novels have helped me through some very tough times, and if I can help just one person by making their tough time a little easier with my books, I've done my job.  Thanks for giving me that opportunity :)

Taken By Fire release day!

Sydney Croft's 6th ACRO book, TAKEN BY FIRE, releases today – just in time for the RWA literacy signing tonight at the Mariott Marquis in New York City between 5:30 & 7:30 It's open to the public and a ton of romance authors are signing, so if you're in the area, come check it out.

TAKEN BY FIRE – ACRO BOOK 6

HIS MISSION WAS TO TAKE HER OUT… BUT DESIRE GOT IN THE WAY.

A product of genetic manipulation, Melanie Milan shares a body with her malevolent sister Phoebe. A sleek,   blonde predator with a heart of pure darkness, Phoebe puts their body through the wicked underbelly of sex for thrills—when she's not igniting her pyrokinetic skills for an evil organization bent on taking over the world. Melanie rarely gets out to play—much less fall in love. But that changes when rival ARCO agent Stryker Wills shows up, with a mission to take out the woman who torched his partner.

An operative with rare abilities, Stryker soon realizes that the woman he's about to kill isn't the murderous fire starter he's hunting. But he does want her. Melanie, with the power to ice anything in her path, is heating things up in ways that are setting his blood on fire. As long as Melanie stays in control, she is his best ally to bring down her sister and stop hellish havoc from being unleashed. Walking a tightrope of longing and hate, Stryker and Melanie begin to understand that true power lies in sweet surrender to each other, to the fire between them, to the erotic adventure that's joined their hearts and abilities to become their salvation—and perhaps the world's.

I'm leaving for they city in a few – I get to meet with my NAL editor and my agent and then hang out with friends at the literacy signing.  It's going to be a busy few days and I'm hoping to see many of you there!  Please come say hi if you see me!

Seriously…

I did not need the heart attack on a plate from the squirrel that jumped through the lattice fencing out of my shed AT me this morning.  All I was trying to do was take out the garbage.  Instead, I think I taught my neighbors many new curse words.  I mean, it's not like I live in the middle of the woods.  I don't understand this at all.

But cursing always reminds me of the phrase, cursing like a sailor.  Which reminds me of SEALs.  Which reminds me…I'm thrilled to have been asked to be part of a SEAL anthology that comes out in November !  All the proceeds from this antho go straight to the Veterans Medical Research Foundation.  The complete website's coming soon, but you can still visit it for some information – or to stare more at the cover.  There are so many wonderful authors involved – it's going to be awesome!  And I believe there will be romance trading cards of the cover available at RWA!

Speaking of RWA,  Larissa is slowly UPS'ing me her entire life in preparation for the conference.  I might need another house just to put the various things I'm getting, like all her shoes.  Chapsticks.  Jar openers.  And other random packages.  She and Bryan will be hanging here over the weekend before they head in for the RWA conference.  I'll be there starting Tuesday.  It's going to be insane, but fun.

Finally, last but not least, today, I'm over at Marie Force's Bookclub Blog (thanks to Kara, Ronlyn & Marie!) – they're talking about LIE WITH ME, so pop over and say hi and you'll be entered for a chance to win the giveaways!

Sneak Peeks & Mountain Lions

So this morning my mom's driving me up to get my bloodwork done (because of this horrible migraine and I don't drive when I'm on the meds) and she's telling me about all the mountain lions spotted in Connecticut and New York, like, five minutes away.  Like, where Zoo and Gus run through the nature study woods.

Will the mountain lion play with me?!

And I'm like, you know, I'm betting it's a family of shifters who moved into the area!

Mom:  What are you talking about?

Me:  A family of mountain lion shifters.  Like, they're people who can become mountain lions.  How cool is that?

Mom:  You're really nuts, you know that?

I knew you all would understand.

Anyway, my NAL paranormal series has titles and a series name!  Book one is Dire Needs:  A Novel of the Eternal Wolf Clan and, according to Amazon, it's available March 6, 2012!  I should have cover copy approved soon (and a cover) but you can find out a little more about the series here.  I'm having a blast writing these books!  Oh, and yes, it'll be available on Kindle and Nook and such, but sometimes those links take a little longer to go up.

I've also got an In The Air Tonight sneak peek up here and a Night Moves sneak peek up here. So lots of sneak peek goodness!

Also, Sydney Croft's Taken By Fire, ACRO Book 6 got a Top Pick from RT Book Reviews!  Of course, a certain 11 month old shredded the magazine beyond repair so I don't have the actual review, but it was a great one!

I'm in the middle of writing a couple of proposals and waiting to hear some news on something.  Well, actually, I've heard some news, but I can't share it yet.  So fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly.  I'll let you all know as soon as I can!

In a couple of weeks, RWA NYC will be upon me, so I'm trying to prep for that.  Larissa and her husband will be staying here for a few days before the conference, too, so it'll be great to spend some downtime with them before the madness of the conference begins.  The conference is always a bit overwhelming to me but I'm excited to catch up with writing buds and blogging friends I'll be meeting for the first time!

Birds, birds everywhere…

So okay, about a year ago, a bird was flying around in our basement, which is attached to our garage, so it's like no big mystery how it got in there.

But then I was all paranoid and stated asking Zoo questions like, what color was the bird? What color was the bird exactly? Because I had to figure out if it was an omen of death.

He wasn't all that helpful, and got tired of me showing him googled pictures of birds and asking, does this look like the bird?

I finally decided it didn't count at all since it didn't come in through a window, but rather, an open garage door and then a door. Maybe.

The woodpecker came a few months later, drumming the shit out of our wooden shed. And then I think that same summer, a bird flew directly at my head. Seriously, if I didn't duck, I probably would have died. Or been hurt. Or…something.

Anyway, so the other night I tell Zoo, a bird flew into me again.

Zoo: What do you mean, again?

Steph: It happened last year too.

Zoo: Something is really wrong with you.

Steph: With me, or the birds?

Zoo:

So anyway, the sparrow flew through the openings of a wrought iron fence around the patio into my thigh and I screamed and brushed at it and touched it because it happened so fast I really didn't know what it was. And the sparrow was on the ground looking at me and kind of fluttered its wing and then it flew away. Like, the bird might've been giving me the bird. Gus, the incredible bird dog, did nothing. Because he's a bird dog who does not notice birds at all. Seriously – he'll walk into his pen and the birds sit on the ground waiting for him and then they fly into his face and scare him, and he runs back to me all freaked out.

I'm wondering if the bird wanted to attack me. Or if maybe I'm invisible to birds? Or maybe I have the power of invisibility and it just turns on at weird times? Like when I'm around birds? Or maybe the birds are working with the spiders and the crickets? There are so many possibilities.

Anyway, I went inside and asked my mother if I was going to die of bird flu. Wondered if I should change my pants. Because, hi, a bird just flew into me.

Her response? Wash your hands really well.

Has this ever happened to you? I mean, it doesn't seem to have happened to anyone in the world because I googled things like, what does it mean if birds keep flying into you? and came up with nothing.

I was pretending it meant something good but then I found out some jackhole used my address to register their car and had to call the police. So right now, if I had to say, a bird flying into your thigh means someone is going to use your home address to register their 94 Impala.

Operation Auction

Fatin has been an integral part of the romance community for years – she owns and runs the RR@H Novel Thoughts and Book Talk blog, is an administrator of the WriteMinded loop, an author assistant and a tireless advocate for romance novels. She is also a friend to many in this community. On Tuesday, March 8th, she lost her husband in a senseless act of violence, leaving her alone with four children. You can read more about the tragedy here.

The romance community would like to rally around her. Therefore, we will be holding auctions on ebay the last week of March. More information on exact days and donations will follow, as well as a link to a hubpage where you can peruse the items that will be up for auction.

If you are an editor / agent / author and would like to donate something for the auction – such as a critique, mentoring, lunches at RT or RWA, swag, signed books, etc., please contact me via my contact page with your donation. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Also, Larissa Ione asked readers recently what type of items they'd most like to bid on, so you might find this list helpful.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Night Moves cover!!

Night Moves is Shadow Force Book 4 – it's Kell's book and it's available September 27, 2011! What do you think?!

Night Moveschain

NIGHT MOVES

Anything can happen under the cover of darkness.

Kell Roberts has walked the thin line between life and death for so long that it now feels like home. He is a soldier, a survivor, and a loner. Still, Kell cannot turn his back on the beautiful woman caught in his firefight against the drug lords of Mexico. She says her name is Teddie, but Kell senses there's much more to her story—and it's about to pull him into a mission he didn't sign on for: keeping her alive.

Teddie Lassiter knows this lean, mean rescuer just saved her life, but the steel glint behind those soft gray eyes seem to be hiding something deep. The men after Teddie are deadly, but the man who holds her life in his hands and tempts her with his wicked touch is even more dangerous. He could make her dream about living and loving again. And if they can survive, maybe, just maybe, they can stop fighting the world and each other—and simply surrender.

An eBook from Sydney Croft & Shiloh Walker

Yes, I realize it's been a million years since I've been here – deadlines got me for most of January but I knew you'd all understand. Promise to be back soon!  But here's a drive-by, since I have several things due by the 15th and must get  cracking…DeadlyDesires

Code Word: Storm was an ACRO short story in The Mammoth Book of Special Ops that came out in May 2010.  It's a Sydney Croft (aka me and Larissa Ione) story featuring Creed and Annika, set between Riding the Storm and Unleashing the Storm. And now, it's going to be available for you to purchase as a stand-alone eBook to have alongside your other ACRO books! And, to make it even better, it will be packaged together with Shiloh Walker's short story, Don't Walk Away, from the same Mammoth Book!

We're really excited to package these rereleases together – we don't have an exact release date yet (we're doing this ourselves, but it won't be too much longer ) and it'll be up on Amazon and B&N and other eBook sites.

Anyway, isn't the cover we had made beautiful?!  I love it!  I'll keep you guys apprised of the details as soon as we solidify everything.

December 25, 2010

What do you mean the world's ending in 2012?

That's what my mother said during Christmas dinner when I mentioned the whole Mayan prediction of the world ending in December 2012.  I really though this was something everyone and their mother (obviously not) knew about, but she clearly hadn't gotten the news.

Her next response?  If you think I'm dying in 2012, you're crazy.

Point taken – sorry Mayans – she's not going anywhere.

And after thinking about it for a few more minutes, she added, Imagine if I was the only one here?  Who would do my nails?!

I hope your Christmas was wonderful and that you all laughed and ate as much as we did here.  And um, hello blizzard heading rapidly to New York as I type…looks like it's going to be impressive.
