Will fans forgive and forget?
Drug suspension to test where the loyalties lie
"Fans don't care about drugs, they care about wins." That's the common refrain. You heard it again Monday, after the latest deluge of bad baseball news. Thirteen major league players were suspended, most for 50 games, for their involvement with performance-enhancing drugs in the Biogenesis scandal.
One of those players was Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta - who once claimed anyone who said he used PEDs was "lying."

From the Detroit Free Press: Burr's spirit shines even after his death
Burr's spirit shines even after his death
Stop the laughter. Lower the smiles. Shawn Burr is dead. It doesn't seem possible. He was here just a minute ago, laughing in the Red Wings' locker room. He was here just a minute ago, cracking wise about his big butt, saying things like "I have the perfect body ... for a mailman." He was here just a minute ago, his hair dyed red and white, digging into corners, scraping for the puck, jumping into group hugs after game-winning goals and crying like a nursery schooler when the seasons ended too soon.
Here he was just a minute ago.

From the Detroit Free Press: You know it's over ...when he's filming you
The idea was simple. Hide a camera. Film someone in an embarrassing situation. At the end, have a nice guy come out and say, "Smile!" and tell the victim it was a setup.
They called it "Candid Camera," and it was so successful as a TV show that it ran, in some form, for more than half a century.
It's off the air now. Instead, we have YouTube, where anybody can create their own "Candid Camera" moment. Last week, a video surfaced and instantly went viral; it had people wondering just how close the person secretly filming you might be.

From the Detroit Free Press: Broke or Not, We Carry On in Detroit
Dear America,
Yeah, we're broke.
But we got up this morning.
Yeah, we're broke.
But we woke the kids. We went to church.
Yeah, we're broke.
But we ate breakfast. We cleaned the plates. We called friends. We lit the grill.
Yeah, we're broke.
But we carry on.
Yeah, we're broke. But we saw it coming. We've had an outsider in charge for the last four months. His background is bankruptcy. The first word of his job title is "emergency."
The Latest From MitchAlbom.com: 100 Houses To Host Third Event In August
On August 10th, 2013, the One Hundred Houses army will convene for a third time. This year, Mitch Albom and the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries will be collaborating with residential builder Bill Pulte and his organization, the Detroit Blight Authority. Together the organizations will beautify over 500 vacant lots in the city’s Brightmoor neighborhood. The project is part of Pulte’s five-step plan to take a “bite out of blight” and will be one of the many efforts to remove blight in the area.
