Last week, Prince Fielder, the Tigers superstar, was defended by a teammate, Torii Hunter, during a radio interview. Hunter suggested that Fielder, who has struggled at the plate, was dealing bravely with off-field issues and continuing to work hard every day.

Greek mythology says that Narcissus was so in love with his own reflection, he died staring at it. I wonder sometimes, when I see people on their cell phones or PDAs, if we're not in danger of a similar fate.


Last week, a man allegedly shot and killed his wife, took a photo of the grisly body, then posted it on Facebook along with a farewell to his public.


"I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife," he posted, "love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news."


He then turned himself in to police.

Drug suspension to test where the loyalties lie


"Fans don't care about drugs, they care about wins." That's the common refrain. You heard it again Monday, after the latest deluge of bad baseball news. Thirteen major league players were suspended, most for 50 games, for their involvement with performance-enhancing drugs in the Biogenesis scandal.


One of those players was Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta - who once claimed anyone who said he used PEDs was "lying."
