This weekend I will be joined by actor Brad Whitford and his family along with Jim and Jane McElya on my trip to Haiti. Our goal is to see that the children of #havefaithhaitimission are cared for medically, nutritionally, educationally, and spiritually. From the Detroit Free Press: Yellow flag now a black-white issue

It's not my word.

I don't like it. I don't use it.

To me, the N-word is a hateful slur based on a person's skin color. Yet because my skin is also a certain color, I am told I cannot criticize its usage.

It's not my word.

But sooner or later, everyone, black and white, will stop saying it in public. This is inevitable. It's called evolving. One day, we will look back on the current debate and shake our heads.

Meanwhile, that debate now centers on whether the NFL should start penalizing teams 15 yards for a player's use of the N-word on the field.

The Latest From MitchAlbom.com: From Detroit to Lakeland: ‘Ernie’ Hits the Road

Mitch Albom’s play ‘Ernie’ is leaving Michigan this year for a special, limited run at the historic Polk Theatre in Lakeland, FL. Lakeland is home to spring training for the Detroit Tigers, and has been for the last 78 years. I'm back in the U.S., but miss the Philippines already. What an amazing, loving, resilient country. My deepest thanks to my new Filipino friends - and thousands of readers. Rarely have I been as moved as by seeing the ravages of Typhoon Yolanda. It inspired me to launch "D.R.Y. Libraries" (Donated Reading for Youth) a campaign to raise $160K to rebuild and restock school libraries in the typhoon-affected areas.

From the Detroit Free Press: At 90, she still is running the store

MANILA, Philippines The white-haired woman is short but stands straight, in a pink blouse and flat shoes, with mostly unwrinkled skin, a wide nose and a broad smile that nearly leaps from her face when she laughs. You congratulate her on being 90 years old, and she holds up a finger and says: "Ninety-one this year." You ask her the secret of her longevity, and she says, "Work every day."
