From the Detroit Free Press: Why the Beatles are still simply the best
Why the Beatles are still simply the best
This past week marked the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show." There were TV specials and nostalgic articles. And if I were in my teens today, I might ask, "What's the big deal?"
It's a fair question. To you, young person, this must seem like your parents (more likely your grandparents) waxing on about something that is totally outdated, like rotary phones or customer service.

From the Detroit Free Press: BOOMTOWN!
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. The first snap of Super Bowl XLVIII sailed over Peyton Manning's head and landed in his end zone. He trotted to the sideline already trailing by two points - having never touched the ball!
The idea, to beat Denver, was to keep Manning off the field.
It wasn't supposed to be Denver's idea.
Instead, the best offense in football was chased into the small type of this Super Bowl story by its own mistakes and the vaunted Seattle Seahawks defense, which was so overwhelming, it shut down traffic better than Chris Christie.

From the Detroit Free Press: Super routine of the NFL's Mr. Nice Guy
Super routine of the NFL's Mr. Nice Guy
NEW YORK Here is how the day will go. Peyton Manning will wake up in his hotel room. Bluebirds will circle his head. They will sing.
He will walk down the hallway and knock on doors. "Come on, sleepyheads," he will coo to his teammates. "Today's the Super Bowl."
Along the way, an elevator will open and a young couple will struggle with their luggage. Peyton will carry it to their room.
"Nice kids," he will note.
He will refuse a tip.
