Last week was Father's Day. We know that from the calendar, the lines at restaurants and the holiday sales at Best Buy.
But the rest of the year, fatherhood is shrinking in significance. I'm not just talking about physical absence - a third of American kids now live without their biological fathers - I'm talking about perceived importance. More and more, fathers are being viewed as less than necessary.

JERUSALEM - And then Mick Jagger walked in.
I was in Israel, with several friends, visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, believed to be the site where Jesus was crucified and later buried. It is one of the biggest religious destinations in the world, viewed by thousands of people every day. Some fall to the floor. Others place personal items on a large stone where, it is said, Jesus' body once lay. They pray. They weep. It is a place of deep reverence.
And then Jagger walked in.
And everything changed.
