From the Detroit Free Press: Early mistakes take Game 3 off the table

Well, that was a sorry homecoming. Bad enough the Red Wings spent most of the first period in their zone. But at one point, they left the ice altogether.

Or should we say "all together"?

In a line change that looked like a five-man beer run, the Wings headed to the boards simultaneously, leaving Jimmy Howard to wonder, "Hey, where's everybody going?" Talk about uninhabited ice. It looked like Greenland out there.

From the Detroit Free Press: Denied U-M hopeful learns tough lesson

Denied U-M hopeful learns tough lesson

First, we should remember that Brooke Kimbrough is still in high school. She is, as the Beatles once sang, just 17.

So even if she ruffled feathers this past week claiming she should have been admitted to the University of Michigan - despite lower grades and test scores - because she is African American and the school needs diversity, the best thing is not to insult her or dismiss her.

The best thing is to talk to her.

From the Detroit Free Press: Remember Dumars for his best, not this Pistons mess

Remember Dumars for his best, not this Pistons mess

Applause for one of Detroit's most intelligent, talented and decent sports legends, who is ending nearly 30 years of service because he still stands for what this franchise was, and likely can't stand what it has become.

Facebook: As we celebrate National Library Week and how stories can change—and build—lives...

As we celebrate National Library Week and how stories can change—and build—lives, I hope you will remember our friends in the Philippines who are still working to recover from Typhoon Yolanda. #DRYLibraries is an international effort to rebuild and restock 10 school libraries in the areas hardest hit by the typhoon. So far we’ve raised $23,000 of our $80,000 goal (with the National Book Store matching donations to make this possible). Some of your favorite authors have pledged their books to fill the shelves, and I hope you will join them in this effort. Learn, spread the word, and donate at www.mitchalbomcharities.org/dry
