Let's celebrate National Library Week by sharing stories of how libraries can change lives. When I was young—probably around 6—my mom would drop me off at the local library every Saturday morning and pick me up three hours later. I was expected to come out with a book to read that week. One morning, I wanted to check out "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea," but the librarian said it would be too hard for me. When my mother learned this, she marched me back in to the library and demanded I be able to check it out. I learned that day how important reading was. My mother showed me—and the library enabled me—that learning was worth fighting for. I've been an avid reader ever since. What's your library story? #NLW14 #LivesChange

From the Detroit Free Press: Mets player right to be at baby's opening day

Mets player right to be at baby's opening day

At some point, most kids ask their fathers, "Were you there when I was born?"

I know my father was. I've heard the story many times. Dad drives Mom to the hospital. He sits in the waiting room. Doctor comes out, takes one look at my father and says, "I see where he gets his ears."

Every kid should have a delivery story. And now, a newborn named Noah Murphy will have one, too.

Noah's father, Daniel, a second baseman for the New York Mets, missed Opening Day this past week to be there for the child's birth.

From the Detroit Free Press: A perfect ending

Mitch Albom on Tigers' Opening Day

A perfect ending

Time to forget the harsh winter;

old and new deliver a grand day

Mitch Albom

The manager's hair is no longer white. The starting lineup now includes an Ian, a Nick and a Rajai. The second baseman is new, the third baseman is new, the first baseman is no longer a bearded Prince (although he does have a contract fit for a king). And, until the game started Monday afternoon, very few people knew who was playing shortstop.

But they knew it by the end.

Found this video. What a beautiful song/lyrics. Morrie would have closed his eyes and smiled - maybe cried - to the last note. Thanks to Victoria Jones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pup7vQSSRXo

If there are more songs inspired by my books out there, I’d love to see them. Send me your links.

Working Homes/Working Families gave away its 18th home yesterday to a working mom of three. Working Homes/Working Families’ mission is to give working families a hand up--not a handout--by converting abandoned houses into homes and desolate neighborhoods into thriving communities. http://mitchalbomcharities.org/news/house-given-to-working-mom
