Book for Young Adults and Adults
RUSSIAN COLONIAL FOOD includes thirty disappearing authentic recipes pushed away by food industry globalization and ready-to-go meals.
But it is not a cookbook. The receipts were included to show the diversity of the Communist Empire and to help preserve the national cuisine as a part of the culture of ex-colonies.
RUSSIAN COLONIAL FOOD is a collection of fifteen historical stories based on well-researched astonishing facts about the colonies of Soviet Russia. Some territories come as a surprise; other places may be better known.
The book was created for Young adults and Adults.

Alaska issue
DID YOU KNOW THAT:
Alaska was obtained and lost by two Russian Emperors.
Peter the Great, one month before his death in 1725 ordered his Russian Navy officer Vitus Bering to find out where ends Siberia. And after many difficulties in 1741 Bering found and colonized Alaska for the Russian Empire.
But in 1867, Alexander II sold Alaska to the United States of America because it was a burden to keep. The profits of Alaska's main commodity the wild animals’ furs sharply declined and Russia still felt the pain of the Crimean War, which was finished a decade ago.
Emperor Alexander II sold “this frozen land” for just $7.2 million before any gold, silver, gas, and oil were discovered in Alaska.
One year ago, on January 18 2024 Russian President Vladimir Putin allocated money for searching and protecting real estates abroad from the times of the Russian Empire. The decree in Russian is here:

DID YOU KNOW THAT: Russia has two New Years
Russia has two New Year celebrations. One like everywhere else in the world; at midnight from 31st December to 1st January. According to the Gregorian calendar adopted in 1918 by the young Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic or simply communist Russia.
And another so-called Old New Year or Orthodox New Year is celebrated informally two weeks later; at midnight from 13th January to 14th January, according to the Julian calendar named after Roman ruler Julius Caesar. Julian calendar is still widely used by the Orthodox Church.
The Gregorian calendar replaced the Julian calendar, with one New Year another, but people in Russia enjoy both and are giving best wishes and promises also twice.

A year of SERPENT
The coming 2025 year will be a year of SERPENT, according to the Chinese calendar. Some people call this reptile a SNAKE. The difference is that SERPENT is more minacious and mysterious.
Therefore I want to show you the most dangerous serpent in Europe – a Horned Viper (Vipera Ammodytes). It lives all over Europe, but more often you can confront it in Romania, Croatia, and other parts of East Europe. Also in Carpathian forests, where people go to gather mushrooms.

Retrospective: Smuggling Tunnel to the European Union

In the last fourteen months, the world had heard a lot about the tunnels. The underground cities in the Gaza Strip were built by Hamas. The tunnels became on the tip of the tongue since the Israel-Hamas ongoing war from October 7, 2023.
And it reminded me of another tunnel, illegally built under the Ukrainian-Slovak border for smuggling purposes. When it was discovered by the secret services of a few European countries, the first was the shock - how professional this tunnel was done. And then a lot of doubts were raised - why this construction was not noticed by police and border guards. Or they didn’t want to see it?
These two events: the disclosure of Hamas’s tunnels in Gaza and the underground secret of the Ukrainian-Slovak border, inspired me to publish this article

It was the middle of the summer when I was called to report on a discovery in Uzhhorod, a city in the westmost point of Ukraine. Finally, after several years of successful illegal operation, the tunnel under the Slovak-Ukrainian border was discovered.
But local people, with whom I spoke in Uzhhorod, told me that they were surprised, that the tunnel was not discovered earlier:
“Everybody knew here, that it existed. We called it “A Metro to Europe”, smiled to me a middle-aged man in black clothes with yellow smoked teeth. And then he added: “There are many tunnels there: some are still under construction, others are ready, but they are not so big as this one”, and he showed with his hand to the west.
Ukrainian Uzhhorod is a center of the Transcarpathia region, which borders four European Union countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, and Romania, making it an attractive place for smugglers.
The man in black was a local construction worker, he knew well what was going on under the Earth. He was sure that the law enforcement officers of Ukraine, from where the tunnel was dug, knew well what was happening because it was impossible to hide:
“The ground had to be taken away. A lot of ground! Tons of ground, when you build such a tunnel. Not talking about expensive equipment: ventilation systems, electricity generators – all had to be bought and delivered. Also, geologists had to deal with underground waters. All these you can not bring to the spot without being unnoticed”, explained a man in black taking a deep puff of a cigarette. “The people who lived nearby saw that a lot of ground was taken away each day. But they were told that it is because of the swimming pool, which is built there”, he giggled to me.
We never met after this conversation and I didn’t want to mention his name for safety reasons.

I wish you
Many of us worked too hard this year. And now we deserved a break.I wish everybody, from small to old, a restful holiday season, good food, and a pleasant time with a good book to read.
Can it be my book? It is still not too late to get it, maybe now you have more time to do it. A colorful outside and interesting inside present for yourself of a valuable someone.
