Do you now, or have you ever lived in a repressive society? Have you ever lived in a place or time where society’s expectations controlled almost every aspect of life, including the control of your parents and family?
Today, I’m talking about living in such a repressive society, which is central to my next book.
My latest work is a realistic fiction book inspired by actual life events.
My next book is about a little boy who was horribly sexually abused that grew up in the south during the 1960s. Yet, unfortunately, he lived in a society that unknowingly fostered this abuse.

Society Fosters AbuseOn the surface, this society in North Carolina appeared to be a sleepy, conservative, unassuming, and uninspiring farming community.
Yet during the 1960s, this society still clung to a past governed by strict adherence to culture, religious intolerance, and extreme racism. Nevertheless, it was very resistant to change and modernization.
It became a very controlling society where children were taught not to question things. Instead, they were to blindly obey, not to speak until spoken to, and to be seen but not heard. A society where religion was used to justify almost every aspect of life, especially harsh discipline. Families trended toward dysfunction. And there were secrets, many secrets, deep, dark secrets.
The main character comes from an incredibly dysfunctional family, and this dysfunction prevented him from seeking assistance and ending his abuse. Instead, he suffered for years, controlled by his abusers in a place and time that ensured his silence and prevented him from speaking out.
My story is centered around his life: a life that is a journey from early boyhood sexual abuse and its effects, his struggles to overcome, his unwavering determination to survive, and his dogged determination to succeed and make something out of himself.

My Latest WIP? – New Book Coming Soon About Triumph Over Childhood Sexual Abuse
Today, I’m talking about my latest WIP, or work in progress.
Now putting on the finishing touches, I’m working on my latest book, which will be published soon.
So what is my new book about?
Well, it’s a very dear topic to my heart and something I’m most passionate about writing.

My Latest BookMy latest work is a contemporary or realistic fiction book inspired by true life events. This book was deliberately crafted to blur the lines between reality and fiction.
It begins in the southern US, in North Carolina, and travels from the 1960s until now.
The main character grows up in a society still greatly influenced by the former Civil War. Yet the book begins during the political and societal unrest of the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Hippie Movement.
This was a time when society was very resistant to change. It was a repressive southern society with deep, dark secrets.
On the surface, this appeared to be a sleepy, conservative, unassuming, and uninspiring farming community.
But under that cloak of disguise, this society still clung to a past governed by strict adherence to culture, religious intolerance, and extreme racism.
The main character comes from an incredibly dysfunctional family that oddly, to the casual observer, goes to great lengths to appear publicly as the model family.
Yet, in private, this miserable home was where children were taught not to question things. Instead, they were to blindly obey, not to speak until spoken to, and to be seen but not heard. This was a home where religion was used to justify every aspect of life, especially harsh discipline.
The main character, unfortunately, is a man who was horribly sexually abused as a boy. And he has lived his life, until now, hiding and running from the past.
My story is centered around his life: a life that is a journey from early childhood sexual abuse and its effects, his struggles to overcome, his unwavering determination to survive, and his dogged determination to succeed and make something out of himself.
My story remains untitled, a title that continues to evolve as I apply the finishing touches.
I expect this book to be published in the next few months.

Nadia, the Good SisterMy short story is a spinoff of my recent book, “New Pangaea – Utopia of Revenge: A Rigid Dystopian Society in a Post-Apocalyptic World.”
In this dystopian short story, Nadia is intelligent, beautiful, sweet, and kind. Yet, life is not kind to her.
A little shorter than her successful and mean-spirited sister, Nadia’s life is mundane.
Fate determines Nadia for a life of servitude. In this dystopian society, Nadia is destined to be a maid to all others of superior rank.
Nadia, nevertheless, accepts her fate and remains pleasant, humble, and loved by all.
And as an act of love for her arrogant sister, Nadia tries to rescue her cruel sister from herself and bring her back down to reality.
Will she succeed? Or will Nadia’s cruel sister turn on her too?

All of this goes to her head, and she becomes unbearably haughty and arrogant. She evolves into a classic bitch and is despised by all.

In this continued dystopian society, fate determines the destiny of two sisters.
One sister has everything and becomes unbearably haughty and arrogant. As a result, she is despised by all.
The other sister is forced to live as a mundane servant. The servant, at much risk, attempts to rescue her sister from her life of cruelty.
Will she succeed, or will her mean-spirited sister turn on her too?

Decisions Before Publishing? – “New Pangaea – Utopia of Revenge: A Rigid Dystopian Society in a Post-Apocalyptic world”
Today, I’m discussing critical elements you’ll need to decide before publishing your book.
Each publisher has specific book publishing requirements.
And having these elements decided upon and organized for easy access will make your publishing experience much smoother and faster.
These upfront decisions will help to avoid unnecessary delays in your publishing process.

What Are the Critical Elements?So what are the critical elements needed?
I will use an example for the short story I’m working on. It’s a spinoff of a book I published in March 2022 called “New Pangaea – Utopia of Revenge: A Rigid Dystopian Society in a Post-Apocalyptic World.”
First, you’ll need to decide the book type: Kindle, paperback, or audiobook. Each type will have different elements, although there are some similarities.
For today’s discussion, I will be talking about the paperback publishing requirements.
The most obvious are the manuscript, cover, and titles, all of which must meet strict publishing guidelines.
The manuscript must be correctly preformatted before submission to avoid rejections.
Likewise, the book cover must meet the size, formatting, and color requirements.
And the title and perhaps any subtitle must meet requirements as well.
Then, some critical elements are not so obvious.
For example, what language will be used? Will there be multiple book languages?
Will your book be part of a series? If so, you’ll need to have a series title and description.
What is your edition number?
What is your author’s name? Are you using a pen name? Are there other contributors to your book you want to mention?
You’ll need a book description submitted in the correct format.
You’ll need to establish publishing rights.
You’ll need keywords and categories. I’ve covered the great importance of these in previous videos.
You’ll need to establish if you have adult content.
You’ll need to obtain your own ISBN or use a free KDP ISBN.
You’ll need to set a publication date.
You’ll need to set print options: what are the ink and paper types, trim size, bleed settings, and cover finish?
You’ll need to set your territories or worldwide rights.
You’ll need to set your primary marketplace.
And lastly, you’ll need to set your pricing, royalty, and scope of distribution.
All of the above need to be established before you hit send.
And one last thing. I highly recommend that you preview your book before submitting it.
This is your last chance to review all details before sending.
So you can see, there is a fair bit of work to do before publishing beyond the book manuscript, cover and titles.

Second, before ordering the cover of a paperback or hardcover, you’ll need to establish the page count, so your cover designer will know how thick to set the spine width.
Third, each type of book has specific formatting guidelines. That is, the format for a Kindle or eBook differs from a paperback or hardcover.
Fourth, and probably one of the most important, your book format defines your signature and reputation as an author. This conveys your writing and editing style to your readers.
I use Jutoh, a digital publishing software program by Anthemion Software Ltd.
This is a fantastic publishing tool. I start with my Kindle and then proceed next, in my case, to the paperback.
I take my time, follow the stepwise process, and pay attention to details.
And then, I check the accuracy of the output for each type of book. After that, repeating and redoing is easy until you get it right.
And boom! I have my Kindle and paperback ready to send over to my publisher in just a couple of hours.
My acceptance success rate thus far has been 100% on the first submission, which is rare. And this is something that I’m pretty proud of.

Why Research Titles? – “New Pangaea – Utopia of Revenge: A Rigid Dystopian Society in a Post-Apocalyptic world”
Today, I’m speaking with you about why you should research titles.
Because if you get the titles wrong, your book is dead.
The titles should be embedded with the proper keywords, especially the subtitle.

Creating the Best TitlesBut how do you make the best titles?
I will use an example for the short story I’m working on. It’s a spinoff of a book I published in March 2022 called “New Pangaea – Utopia of Revenge: A Rigid Dystopian Society in a Post-Apocalyptic World.”
There are four primary purposes for the titles. The main title and the subtitle should work together to serve these purposes.
First, the titles should convey the essential meaning of your book. This could be driven by many things, such as themes, character names, character interests, main events, settings, timeframes, memorable lines, surprising facts, attractive points, and recurring problems.
Second, the titles should convey who are the targeted readers. This is especially important for the subtitle.
Third, for discoverability, the titles should be relevant to the genre and niche you are marketing.
And fourth, the titles should have established power words, trigger words, or keywords common to the categories you are marketing within. This makes your book more researchable and will drive more sales.
I use two software tools to research and refine my titles until I get them just right: KDSPY and Publisher Rocket, bouncing back and forth between the two, comparing the results until I’m finished.
And behold! Ultimately, I have titles that meet my requirements to be competitive and used by buyers when searching for my books.

After reviewing twelve possible submissions with Amazon’s Audiobook Creation Exchange, I selected my narrator. A link to ACX is provided below.
I chose Katie Labrie as my narrator.
She and I worked together over the next month or so to get the narration just right.
And then, we submitted it to ACX for review.
The approval was granted last week. And I couldn’t be more satisfied.
I’m so pleased with the narration by Katie Labrie. Katie worked hard and did a fantastic job. And now, I think she gives my audiobook just the right touch.
