As infinite beings, we know that we are never born and we will never die. We only change forms, realities and dimensions.

This is the first law of thermodynamics: energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change. The total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant, merely changing from one form to another—energy to matter, matter to energy…

Before you were born, you existed in your parents as an egg and sperm. You existed in your grandparents before them and your ancestors before them. You are the seed of processes that began before the Big Bang and your existence will ripple into the cosmos forever into the future.

We are eternally, consciously here and now with changing experiences shaped by our own creation. We know change is the ultimate truth, so why resist it and why fear it?

After living with these monks, as a monk, for many months in a remote village in Thailand, I realized that meditation is about developing the skill and ability to let go. As we sit in meditation, we watch our thoughts come and we let them go. Over and over.

We let go of the past and the future and stay rooted in the present. We let go of our ego and the carefully constructed sense of self that we have. We let everything go and we just sit in a deep peace and bliss, the only thing left after letting go of everything else.

Experiencing Spiritual Oneness 

We are like fish swimming in the ocean, completely unaware that the water exists. Sometimes we feel disconnected from everything because we fall for the illusion of separateness but we are in fact intricately connected to all matter and energy. We can see beyond separateness only when we look from a place of feeling rather than thinking. It is thoughts that create the screen of separateness. “Uni” in “universe” means one, and there is only oneness.

You are connected to everything. Even if you find yourself stuck in the polarities of life, you are not separate from anyone or anything. Everyone is you and you are everyone. Star dust, as if by miracle, arranged itself into all of us. The universe is conscious because there is consciousness in the universe. You are an essential part of this universe and vital to its unfolding evolution.

To experience this oneness, one need only close their eyes and turn their attention inward, towards the vast infinite space of pure consciousness within, where the loneliness and separateness of material illusion cease to exist.

Giving love and forgiveness to others is the greatest gift you can ever give to yourself.

When we love and forgive others, we do not lose anything. We in fact gain peace of mind, joyousness, and greater physical and mental health. The more joy and love within you, the more joy and love you put into the world and the more joy and love will come back to you.

This doesn’t mean you invite your tormentor over for dinner or put yourself in danger. You can love and forgive someone from a safe distance and without ever even seeing or talking to them. Hatred and grudges are things you carry with you. Loving and forgiving is simply letting go.

I Feel Immense Hatred Towards Certain People. What to do?

The Dalai Lama is a man who saw his own country violently conquered. It would be all too easy to become bitter. But instead, he forgives and loves. He puts all of our measly everyday squabbles to shame. If he can find compassion for his invaders, we too can find it for our rude coworkers, family feuds, and former friends.

No matter the question, love is always the answer. Forgiveness is freeing. You can find the video “loving kindness meditation” on my YouTube. This meditation will help you in filling your heart with more love and less hatred.

Without knowing it, the stress was getting to me. I had chronic back pain, drinking and partying way too much, and sleeping way too little. I had to see an acupuncturist, massage therapist, and a chiropractor every single week. And the bartender was my therapist. I had no idea it was all because of stress.

Then, I learned about mindfulness and meditation from different teachers in Dharamshala, India. My back pain disappeared on its own and I haven’t drank in years. I work harder and smarter than ever, but it now feels like a joy.

It’s as simple as observing reality as it really is instead of fixating on the story our mind tells us about what is happening or how things should be.

Throughout your day, take as many conscious, deep, slow breaths as you possibly can. Use each breath as an opportunity to become present and mindful of the here and now. The more breaths taken, the more mindfulness and presence enters our life. And, the sooner mindfulness becomes second nature. And this simple practice will help you in managing your emotions throughout the day.

Everyday we’re bombarded with millions of messages and inputs from other people and also from the media we consume. It’s enough to fill any mind with junk and clutter.

These daily bombardments of negativity are enough to grind anyone down. It’s so important to take some time each day to reset and recharge, to process the inputs, to recenter oneself, and to digest all this mental food. It is essential to finding peace in a hyperactive world.

The way to do this can be as simple as spending more time in nature or even just looking at a flower or plant for an extended period of time. It can be making art or playing music. And of course, there is no greater way to tune out all external stimuli than to sit in meditation, watch your breath, be present and conscious of the present moment, allow thoughts to come and go, and simply watch the thoughts without getting lost in thought. As you do this, you will notice that the external noise that fills up our internal world will get quieter and quieter until it is completely inaudible, peaceful and calm.
