Reuters: Exclusive: Prosecutor freezes accounts of ex-Vatican bank heads

This development comes too late to include in the February publication of GOD’S BANKERS, which is now closed to any editing, but will definitely be folded into a future edition. 

Prosecutors have frozen the accounts of three former top moneymen, including the man who ran the Vatican Bank for 19 years. The charges center around embezzlement in the multi-million dollar sales by the church of dozens of prime Rome properties during the past decade.

The Last Nazi reported dead in Syria

Today's NYT reports that ''The Last Nazi,' Alois Brunner, died in Syria four years ago. I tried repeatedly to interview him during the late 1980s when a German professor I had met was in touch with the fugitive war criminal. He was then in Damascus, safe since the end of the war in exchange for helping the Assad dictatorship train its secret police. Once the Mossad sent him a package packed with explosives but it only managed to mangle his hands, but not kill him.
