‘You’re Welcome.’
RIP, Michael Collins.
Michael Collins was, of course, the command module pilot for Apollo 11 – which meant that for a short time in 1969 he was arguably more alone than any other human in our species’ history. He passed away today at the age of 90. A long life, and an honorable one. My condolences and good wishes to his family and loved ones.

Just one example: “Why don’t you go back and eat hers then!” is the right damn answer. Also, any idiot who lets his wife know that an ‘old flame is back in town’ (as opposed to ‘Hey, remember X from college? Yeah, she’s gonna be in the area next week’) absolutely deserves the negative reinforcement coming his way. Seriously: see that look on his face? Why is it there? What on earth was this guy’s victory condition?

Almost done!

His musings were interrupted by a half-familiar, and completely unwelcome, voice behind him. “Why, it’s young Dickie! You slip your leash, boy?”
Richard turned. It was that… person Abigail knew. “No,” he said after a moment. “I do not wear one. Daniel, was it? Forgive the familiarity, but I am afraid I was never given your last name.”
For some reason, this struck Daniel as the most amusing thing in the world. “Oh, don’t have a worry about my pedigree, Dickie. I’m swanky enough to talk to ye. Why, you could say that the best bits of Beacon Hill are inside of me!”
Happy birthday, Jimmie Bise!
Buy his book! That’s always the best gift to give a writer.
The Steve Jackson Games Button Packs Kickstarter.
It’s safe to back this: the Steve Jackson Games Button Packs Kickstarter uses an American (i.e., non-slave labor) manufacturer. Which is good, because the $52 level includes a limited number of (signed) print reproductions of First Edition GURPS Autoduel. My own copy fell apart about a decade ago; it would have been agonizing to pass this chance up…

Tweet of the Day, …Truth edition.
As Karl noted elsewhere, only Ben Bova assumed it’d be the Japanese who’d be doing it. Then again, it was back in the 1980s, back when we all assumed that the Japanese would end up dominating the world. Then they got exquisitely screwed by the NYC real estate industry, and never quite recovered from that.
Appropriately, Ben Bova's prediction of how electronic books would displace the traditional publishing industry is available online. He told them exactly what was going to happen in 1984, and none of the dinosaurs paid any attention.https://t.co/EZoFtpRTdK https://t.co/1qUAvisSaJ

They’re gonna make another Monsterverse movie, it seems.
GeekTyrant reports that they’re tapping GODZILLA VS. KONG director Adam Wingard for another monster flick. GeekTyrant also reports that they’re unsure precisely why. To which I have to say: 75/91 on Rotten Tomatoes, and $400 million box office in a world where movie theaters exist in this sort of sporadic, half-alive half-dead state.
Seriously. Rocket science, this ain’t. Of course they’re going to make a sequel! They made one after GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, and that one bombed among people who weren’t me! Admittedly, they had this flick in the can already, and were just waiting for a moment to uncork it, and it turns out that the first gasping breaths of air after the country thrashes back to the surface of the COVID pool was a wizzo time to light that particular candle.
And how was all of that for a mixed metaphor?
