AudioFile review: Poison at Penshaw Hall audiobook

Witty mysteries, awkward flirting, and merciless bossing are three of my favourite things, so it’s great to see each highlighted in this fantastic AudioFile Magazine review.

Our main man Addison gets a mention as the “endearing, sometimes bumbling amateur sleuth”, as does the “septuagenarian Mabel Zhou, who bosses him mercilessly.” And how could we forget the “hunky Sergeant Jake”?

Speaking of, you can jump on my mailing list or find me on a bunch of the socials:

When do you start writing the first draft?

Mark Stay (host of the Creative Differences podcast) and I discussed how we know when we’re finally ready to write ‘Once upon a time…’ or ‘It was a dark and stormy night…’ or, as was the case for my most recent novel, ‘Addison was determined not to slip, trip, or otherwise make a fool of himself in front of Sergeant Jake Murphy.’

I’ve previously shared snippets from our live chat that covered writing deadlines and book pre-orders; a few festive, cosy and/or fresh book, TV and music recommenda...

I joined Mark Stay for his monthly Creative Differences livestream where we chatted about writing and “the little things that can make all the difference to the creative process.” On top of that, we had live audience members firing plenty of questions our way which were great fun to discuss – we had a whale of a time!

AudioFile review: Murder on Milverton Square audiobook

It was a very nice surprise when this review popped up! Highlights include “delightful series debut” and “entertaining cozy mystery” with a well-deserved “wonderfully narrated” for Philip Battley‘s reading of the Murder on Milverton Square audiobook.

Click through to read the full review:

AudioFile review: Murder on Milverton Square audiobook MURDER ON MILVERTON SQUARE. Milverton, Book 1, by G B Ralph, read by Philip Battley.Mystery & Suspense. 6.5 hours. Unabridged. Copyright 2024.Charming characters populate this delightful series debut, wonderfully narrated by Philip Battley. City-dweller Addison Harper travels to the tiny New Zealand town of Milverton to deal with an inheritance from an uncle he barely remembers. He meets a snarky attorney whose irritating manner causes his blood to boil. When Addison finds the attorney murdered later that night, hunky Sergeant Jake Murphy is called in to investigate. Battley delivers the local community of elderly gossips, Addison's uncle's imperious orange cat, and the simmering attraction between Addison and Jake with an appropriately lighthearted air. As Addison grows fonder of the town and its people, Battley's performance makes clear that he'll stay in Milverton, at least long enough for the next installment of this entertaining cozy mystery.
