🌍 It’s Earth’s Rotation Day (?!) 🥳

Today is officially a day just for celebrating the earth’s Rotation!

It’s true! You can read all about the incredible history of our relationship with this piece of information about our planet here, but one thing that really stands out to me is that it is always changing and we are always learning more.

Take a look back with us!

Pretty cool! For me this information helps me feel more connected to the rest of you and to the planet, which is something that I am thankful for – especially in these times.

and In an effort to raise
our connection to each Other,
i would like to invite you to join

project hope. The Vase of DreamsI know when I receive a little package,

Letter or card of a personal nature it really brightens my day.

For this project, I am creating simple postage-friendly talismans that I can mail out to folks who want a little more hope in their lives or want to share some hope in the world.

I will send out one of these clay creations to a person that requests one and an additional 1-3 of them for the receiver to send out to one or a few of their contacts. In this way, together we can send out a little brightness and hope all over the world, bit by bit.

As you can see, the first talismans are now created and a page has been set up where people who would like to do so, can leave hopeful messages for the recipients. It also includes a map, so we can see where in the world hope has been sent (only the city would be used as the location marker on the map).

This project is totally free to participate in.

I plan to put in $100 for postage costs to kick off the project, and may even leave a few of the talismans in various places.

Subscribe to our newsletter here to receive the latest updates on this project

🙏 Thank you for reading and We hope this invitation may resonate with you. 🙏

join us in bringing more hope to the world,

no matter which point in space we are each currently looking at!

🌍

When Life Is In Chaos

Today, we are unleashing Chaos!

No, I don’t mean your child’s untidy room

Or that time before your first cup of coffee. No, we are talking about the mythless god of the Greeks, the progenitor of all.

If you would like greater context of this vase in the Alchemist’s Studio universe, please check out raku vase, ‘Tears of Uranus’, which you can read here, and also the story for ‘Gaia’s Revenge‘. It’s no wonder those two come from Chaos!

Descending in to Chaos!

Chaos‘, tells the tale the story of everything, but also nothing, of the void, and how everything sprung from it. And it may explain those days we all have when the unexpected keeps cropping up.

It’s not easy existing in a cosmic void, particularly if you feel like you are alone in the universe. Fortunately, for most of us, we will never know how that really feels. But for Chaos, it was the only thing they would know for some time.

Chaos existed for much time in a state of disorder, at least according to us humans. One day Chaos started feeling different than usual. They wondered if they had eaten too many sub atomic particles and space junk.

Chaos definitely began to feel more and more strange, until suddenly, a cosmic egg emerged from them. At first Chaos dismissed this occurrence as simply just more Chaos, but it was from this egg that all elements of our world would originate from.

Cosmic egg, it does the universe good.

You can read the vase story of another cosmic egg from another culture here – The Brahmanda!

That our Earth comes from Chaos

Might explain a lot of things from our history and that are even going on today. That science so many years later would describe the origin of the universe coming from a single point in a void, makes me wonder if the Greeks knew something we did not.

Can’t get enough chaos? Watch this! Thanks for reading/Watching and
have a great weekend!

Losing Myself In The Cracks

“There is a crack in everything.
That’s how the light gets in.”~ Leonard CohenThe cracks in raku glaze (crazing) are one of my favourite things.

I love spending time looking at the details of them and how they expand across a piece, knowing that I have helped them to grow with the choices I made during firing.

I also revel in how I do not control them; in the end I can only encourage them and then what comes is what comes.

letting go of control and allowing the cracks to speak in their own way
brings me peace. slowing down and following the cracks
feels like a meditation I really love the way the cracks bend around the neck area Learn more about the history of sculptural busts here, and why I have chosen the Buddha for my first creation of this sort.

Trading (More Than) Faces

Like any skill, raku pottery takes learning and practice

Which means taking a look at old work and learning more about what I like and do not. This helps me to further define my artistic practice.

I was outside this morning taking a look at this vase called Madame Pele’s Flow and taking a few pictures to share with you 🙂 In this piece, I love how the colours almost look like a volcano. Read her full story here

Madame Pele’s Flow’ tells the tale of a sometimes beautiful goddess who was right at home in the flames of raku. Not only could she sometimes appear as a beautiful woman, but also a white dog, even an old woman, but also a lava flow.

that is a lot of different things! Madame Pele’s Flow

If you could transform into anything else (temporarily or permanently!),

Wedded Bliss(phemy)

This One Time, At Bane Camp

Hephaestus, blacksmith of the Olympian gods (and he honoured by the Hephaestus Forge raku vase), discovered his wife, Aphrodite, goddess of love, having an affair with Ares, the god of war. He became enraged and vowed to avenge himself for Aphrodite’s infidelity by cursing any lineage of children resulting from the affair. Aphrodite bore a daughter, Harmonia, from Ares’ seed. Harmonia grew up and was later betrothed to Cadmus of Thebes. Upon hearing of the royal engagement, Hephaestus presented Harmonia with an exquisite necklace and robe as a wedding gift.

In some versions of the myth, only the necklace is given. In either case, the necklace was wrought by Hephaestus‘ own hand and was cursed to bring disaster to any who wore it.

The Necklace of Harmonia may have cursed it’s wearer, but thankfully I did not make that.

But I did make this, and I hope you might like it.
