Sending Kindness This Christmas

It’s Christmas Eve, and there is a lot going on in the world,

But this season I am choosing to focus on gratitude and kindness. For all those who can’t be with family or find themselves alone this holiday season, I am sending you three cups of cheer:

I want to thank everyone who reads this blog and offers their support and encouragement. In these times it means so much. You’ve all helped me keep on keeping on with creating and learning.

As this year comes to a close, I am dreaming of new creations and projects, but mostly I am thinking about how I can add a little more kindness to the world and hoping others are too. May many multiple ripples of kindness become a wave of love, not just in this season, but throughout the year.

Peace on Earth, and Goodwill to all!

A Christmas Eve Message From Chairman Meow

It is the MOST exciting time of the year! Chairman Meow has once again decided to grace us humans with his Christmas Eve missive. Content warning – it’s a little bit catty!

But before we get to that, I’d like to thank all of you who have read my little blog, taken the time to comment or share my work, and those who have purchased an item or two. In this crazy covid world it’s a real privilege and joy for me to connect with you all from the wilds of rural Nova Scotia! I’d like to wish you all a happy holiday season and I’m sending you all best, amazing, joyous wishes for 2022!

Now on to Chairman Meow

Dear Humans of the World

It’s been a curious past year. My human slaves have been around much more and far more attentive. I’ve had to endure more cuddles, but at least that has been offset a little in extra treats.

They’ve also been gardening more than usual. They even grew a plant for me they call catnip. I was skeptical of it first as with all things not done my way, but I have grown rather fond of it. Compelled even . . . 🤔

Also humans, I’d like to say Santa’s not the only one who knows if you’ve been naughty or nice.

Your cat has been watching you. Watching from under my eyelids. My work never rests!

In anticipation of the day when cats take over the world, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from me, the greatest ruling kitty overlord,

Chairman Meow Angel Cats are watching from the tree!

A Poetic Prayer For Hope

We recently saw a powerful poem that referenced pottery from a regular reader of our blog whose wit, brightness and words we have very much enjoyed getting to know! His poem is shared below – be sure to check out more of his work here!

“Kintsugi”

(c) 2021 by Michael L. Utley

In the winter hour
Of my broken soul
This fragile vase cannot contain
My essence

It sits cracked
On the cornerstone of my hut
Catching melting snow
From which my heart drinks

My soul, old and plain
Cannot match the pace
Of setting sun or rising moon
Or brisk stream

Nor can it
Rival beautiful sakura
Kiku or fuji
But it is my soul

Born in raku fire
Tested by the flames
Etched and pitted by the glaze of
Toil and tears

Loneliness
Has found me at last as long years
Pass by on the trail
Up the mountainside

Misty mysteries
Hidden from my eyes
As I watch my sorrowful tears
Melt the snow

I have lost
Many pieces of myself through
Seasons of regret
Too many winters

How can I replace
All that has perished
All my soul has cannibalized
In my pain

Who can find
A way to patch this vase that leaks
My life on the ground
Draining my essence

Who will knead the clay
Who will brave the snow
To gather golden suisen
Seal the cracks

Kintsugi
Make my mournful soul whole again
Gild my wounds and heal
Me with tender care

Fill my soul with hope
Set me on the path
Up the mountainside so I may
Find my way
Again

Njord’s Fjord KintsukoroiThank you for reading this post, and for all those who have lost a pet

may you find healing and peace. 🙏

You Decide! Evangeline

Evangeline tells the tale of a great Acadian love story that is a part of the local culture here in my home of Nova Scotia.

‘Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie’ is an epic poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. In this poem he follows her search for long lost love Gabriel, with whom she was betrothed.

Evangeline and Gabriel were separated by ‘The Great Upheavel’, also known as the AcadianExpulsion. During this dark chapter of English – French relations in Canada, over eleven thousand Acadians were deported by the British.

Separated by the Acadian Expulsion, Evangeline and her betrothed would only be reunited in their old age when Gabriel, who was already very sick, would perish in her arms.

This work of fiction has become immortalized here in Nova Scotia, where you can follow the stunning landscape of the Evangeline Trail and explore the ancestral home of the Acadians! Nova Scotia invites you to visit and explore our vibrant culture and landscape. Maybe you will find your own ‘Gabriel’.

Iris En Ciel
$80

Iris en Ciel’, tells the tale of sisters on opposite sides of a war, loyalty to the gods, travel by rainbow, and a goddess with a sweet tooth who was a messenger that would give the postal service a run for their money while bringing your prayers to the gods.

Fraternal twins Iris and her sister Arke, would both born to be messengers to the gods, but would have very different fates. Iris would remain loyal to the Olympian gods. Her sister Arke would choose to get mixed up with the wrong crowd. She would become messenger for the Titans in what would be their losing war against the gods of Olympus.

This mistake would cost Arke her wings and earn her ticket to the Titan prison known as Tartarus. Tartarus was a deep dark dungeon in the underworld. Not a very nice place, but she got off lightly compared to another Titan whose story we have told.

Iris, however, would not waver in her loyalty to the Olympian gods. She would remain their messenger. It was thought that she had a rainbow coat and used it to create rainbows to travel from place to place. In between what must have been her exhaustive duties as messenger for the rather high maintenance gods of Olympus, Iris would still find time for her other duties. Clearly the winged goddess knew the plight of a working woman!

Iris also helped humans connect with the gods. She assisted by bringing people’s prayers to the gods, and sometimes even intervening herself on someone’s behalf to their benefit.

Those in the know were aware that Iris had a sweet tooth. She really loved date squares, and those who were wise to this morsel of information would leave her a sweet honey cake. Have a prayer you want answered?

Better get baking!

Who will be your victor? Be sure to get your vote by adding it in a comment BELOW! Their fate is now in your hands! We will share the winner (and update from last Time) next month

Happy Winter Solstice!

It’s the first day of winter!

And today is also the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere!

Around here that means 8 hours and 43 minutes of light

and 11 hours and 17 minutes of dark.

This is the season where I literally crave light, This craving gets stronger and stronger before the snow comes as it can be very grey and gloomy for many days.

So what better way to celebrate the dark nights and the coming return of warm light than with candles! Interstellar Candle Holder
$68

These candle holders have found a place of pride in my home to help make those dark days less dark.

❄️ + 🧟 = First Day Of Winter

I present to you ‘The White Walker’, rising up from the snow covered ground to give you a burst of winter.

(Happy first day of winter by the way!)

The White Walker vase pays homage to one of my favourite television series, that captivated me right until the rushed and disappointing ending, Game of Thrones!

The White Walkers were an ancient race of formerly-human ice creatures who came from north of the wall. As the books and TV series progress, they become humanities greatest threat.

Think icy zombies.$68
FreemShipping Included in US and Canada

This vase celebrates the defeat of the Night King at the hands of Arya Stark, which resulted in the complete obliteration of the Night Army. Which, in case you don’t watch the show, is a very good thing!

Too bad the ending of the series was not such a good thing.

At least we have the final books to look forward to!IF the snow hasn’t got to your house yet, remember Battle ice zombies?

tend to your dragon family?

What do you like to do in winter?
